Letter of Erasmus
Erasmus writes to a friend in Italy during his first visit in England (1499) where he extols the pleasure of the company of some of the leading English humanists his patron, comes Montioius (Lord Mountjoy) has introduced him to - Colet, Grocyn Linacre and Thomas More.
Eramsus describes a dinner party he attended at one of the Oxford Colleges (possibly Magdalene College) where he invents the tale of Cain deceiving an angel in getting good seed from the garden of Eden to support his need to grow crops now that mankind was barred.

The family are travelling back, and in this Chapter are passing Crete. This leads to the father, Cornelius telling the story of Theseus and the Minotaur, and his eldest son, Publius, tells of an incident in Hannibal's life when he was passing through Crete (from Cornelius Nepos).
