Hello, my name is Eve, and I'm here to help you relax.Maybe you're feeling anxious, or depressed, maybe you have trouble sleeping. Or maybe you'd just like to calm your mind, focus your attention, or simply take a bit of a mental break from all your worries.Maybe you've looked into ways of doing this, but were turned off by the new age approach, maybe words like "mindfulness" and "meditation" and "hypnosis" just don't sit well with you. Maybe just the thought of sitting cross-legged somewhere makes you cringe. It's okay, you don't have to get all zen just to find a way to relax. This podcast is about simple, no-fuss, down-to-earth relaxation. It's a podcast for anyone and everyone, and features a variety of different proven techniques to help you clear your mind, visualize your goals, or even just drift off to sleep. I'm not a doctor or therapist, and none of these audios should be taken as or replace professional advice. If you just want to de-stress for a few minutes and enjoy some simple, no-fuss mental timeouts, then put your headphones on, and just...chill.
I know it's cozy but we have to get out of bed. Yes. We do. I'm really serious. If you don't get out of bed I'll sing at you. And tell you a lame joke. And/or shove you out with my feet.
Your choice.

I recorded this outside today, because I had an exceptionally busy day and knew I wouldn't have time to record it later. Might as well do it while I'm heading home!
So you'll hear some wind noises, sorry :(
But at least you'll know what it's like to wait for a bus with me!
And I hope you enjoy the story! And in the words of Baz Luhrman, trust me on the sunscreen.

Sometimes these types of relaxation techniques are called 'body scans', but I prefer to think of them as just relaxing head to toe.

This Friday's check in is a little different - it's short and sweet, and recorded downtown with a bit of wind and the noise of people's activity around me. That was the point of this episode, so that's why I recorded it this way. After eighteen months of lockdown and quarantine, it's good to get back to normal a bit, even if that just means being where other people are, and taking it all in.

If you've never heard of comfort audios, you're in for a treat. Intimate, immersive and soothing, comfort audios are recordings in which a relaxing voice, male or female, speaks directly to you and helps you unwind, de-stress, fall asleep, or deal with a variety of issues.
I'm joined by a male comfort audio performer, Dawn's Voice, who shares what kinds of audios he does, what he likes most about it, and how he became interested in it.

In the Just Breathe audios I post here, there's little or no introduction, they're just meant to help you slow down and take deep breaths.
Hopefully it will calm you, help you fall asleep, or let you just daydream for a while.

Araby is the first story in a collection of short stories called Dubliners, by James Joyce. This is a poignant tale of a young boy's infatuation with a neighbour girl, and how he eventually comes to see the truth of it. Digging deeper, I believe this is a story about losing faith in the church, as Joyce often battled with himself and subsequently wrote about. Either way you look at it, its rich language and evocative descriptions will bring you back to Dublin in the 1880s.

There's no standard ideal out there, there's no 'proper' way to relax, unwind, de-stress. We can let our comparison culture influence us into thinking we need to be embracing the zen lifestyle like everyone else, but maybe it doesn't work for you.
If it doesn't, it's okay.
Do what works for you. ❤️

The Lady or the Tiger is a classic short story written by Frank R Stockton in 1882. Described as a 'whimsical tale about the dangers of choice and consequence', it remains an example of an unsolveable problem - at least to some people. I know which door I would choose...do you?
Here's the full text of the story if you're interested - but read it later, after you've had a good night's sleep 💤

Time for another Friday Check In.
Sometimes people put a lot of focus on each day they experience, much the way people who are trying to eat better sometimes focus on how many calories they had that particular day - and if the answer isn’t what they hoped for, in both cases, it can depress them and make them lose motivation. I’m going to suggest that if you are prone to assessing each day in terms of how well it went, or how well you did at something like calorie counting or quitting smoking or whatever else you might be trying to change, you might want to broaden your focus a bit. Instead of looking at each day through a microscope, try pulling back a bit and looking at the week instead, and see if that changes your perspective.

Stress isn't just a buzzword, and it's not just about not being able to cope. It's a very real problem for most of us, and can lead to a lot of serious illnesses.
This week, take a few deep breaths with me, and do a quick body scan to see if there are any areas of your body where you carry stress.
I also talk about the wonders of massage therapy as a way of unwinding.
This beautiful script was written in 2017 by PadandPencil, but the images, thoughts and feelings within it are more relevant today than ever. All of us need a loving friend to be there for us, to comfort and love us and and share our troubles, and our dreams.
Take a ten minute mental health break and enjoy feeling that loving comfort. ❤️
Time for another check in...

In this audio, I talk about how wonderful the beginning of Spring feels...it's a little late in the year, perhaps, but I think the feelings are still the same.
Besides, it's a chance for me to tell what a Superhero you are to me
So how have you been doing this past week? Whether it was a good week, a bad week, or a so-so week, how have you been taking care of yourself this week? Have you made time for yourself, even if it’s only a few minutes? Have you taken the time to do something you enjoy? Think about this today, and throughout this next week. Have you enjoyed laughter? Have you taken deep breaths? Have you gotten enough rest? Maybe there’s something else you know you want to do for yourself, something that would make you feel wonderful - ask yourself if you’ve done it this week, and how you plan to keep finding the time and motivation to do it. It’s important.
I also want to share with you a story about a woman who overcame depression, hypochondria, panic attacks and a host of other issues by becoming an EMT.
Here's more information on dopamine, for those who are interested.

This week I wanted to talk about making sure you have a reset button. A reset button, or a kill switch, or a stop sign, or whatever you choose to call it, is necessary for training your mind to stop all the negative self talk that goes on. I don’t even need to ask if you find yourself thinking negative thoughts about yourself, criticizing yourself, cringing at past mistakes or basically putting yourself down - I know you do. I do, we all do, it’s an unfortunate reality for most people, and it’s really, really harmful.
A reset button is a phrase, or sometimes a physical action, that you use whenever you find yourself going down the familiar path of self-criticism or doom and gloom thinking. It can be simple, like just the word “stop”, or repeating “cancel, cancel”, or it can be a phrase you develop that is meaningful to you, something like “It won’t be like this forever”, “This too shall pass”, “I’m doing the best I can”, “I don’t need criticism right now” or anything that makes sense to you.
Some people wear an elastic band around their wrist, and whenever they start the negative dialogue, they snap the elastic band so it stings their wrist a little and shakes them, physically, out of that headspace. Some people snap their fingers, which is obviously less painful. Whatever works for you, figure out something you can say or do that would stop the negativity.
Enjoy your week! Be good to yourself, you're worth it. ❤️
Laughter is so good for our overall health, especially when we don't have much to laugh about. These softly-spoken audios will help you relax and sleep, or just take a much needed break.
In this first episode of the series, I read How to Live to Be 200 from the collection Literary Lapses by Stephen Leacock (published 1910, now in the public domain.)
Stephen Leacock ( 1869 - 1944) was a beloved Canadian humourist who wrote short stories and vignettes, often set in Mariposa, an imaginary small town thought to refer to Orillia, Ontario. Jack Benny and Groucho Marx both named Leacock as an influence on their comedy.
You can read more of Leacock's work at the Gutenberg Project

This week, I want to remind you how amazing laughter is, and how important it is to laugh, a lot, and often!
Laughter is remarkably good for your health. They’ve done studies on this, laughing actually lowers stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, it gives a whole bunch of muscles a workout, all over your body. Have you ever laughed so much your knees hurt? Laughter can exercise your legs, your abs, your face, your back, everything. You bring in more oxygen when you laugh, which is always a good thing, and laughing a lot can actually boost your immune system. Antibodies increase in people who laugh a lot, as do another kind of disease fighting cell, called T-cells. It lowers your blood pressure, it increases our production of feel good hormones called endorphins, so it can even ease pain, anxiety and tension. And believe it or not, it can make you think better too - it’s been shown in studies to increase memory and help you retain facts more easily. So if you have to study for a test, connect your learning with some comedy and you’ll probably get a better grade.
And here's that clip from Zoolander!

Sometimes we all need a little reminder to love ourselves as much as we love other people - to be as forgiving, as patient, and as unconditionally loving to ourselves as we are to those we love.
In this simple hypnosis audio, I help you relax deeply and give you some positive suggestions for how to be kinder and more loving to yourself.
Headphones recommended - but please listen only when you can safely relax.

Welcome to Chill, Simple Relaxation for Everyone. My name is Eve, and I’m a professional voice actor and writer, and my goal is to help you relax.
Maybe you’re feeling anxious, or depressed, maybe you have trouble sleeping. Maybe you’d just like to calm your mind a bit, focus your attention, or simply take a bit of a mental break from all the things you have to think about every day.
Maybe you’ve looked into ways of doing this, but were turned off by words like ‘meditation’, ‘mindfulness’ or ‘hypnosis. Maybe just the thought of sitting cross-legged somewhere makes you cringe, maybe there’s no tranquil beach nearby or a giant Buddha statue to bring out your inner zen, and maybe you’d never be into that sort of new age yoga stuff anyway.
Me too.
I don’t believe that relaxation and stress relief have to have a new age component, especially if it puts up a barrier to simply chilling out and taking a mental break. So this podcast is about simple, easy, down to earth relaxation for anyone and everyone, for regular people like you and me. I’ll use different proven techniques to help you achieve whatever you’re looking for, whether it’s a simple guided mediation, gentle hypnotherapy to help you creatively visualise your goals, or sleep stories to help you drift off. I’ll also produce unique audios that provide an intimate, immersive experience of companionship and comfort, for those who need a little extra human connection.
I’m not a doctor or therapist, and none of my audios should be taken as medical advice. I’ll provide lots of links to sources of professional help if you feel you need it, and please don’t substitute these audios for professional help. Many of these audios will help you relax deeply, so please don’t listen while driving or doing anything that requires your full attention.
So if you’re ready to just enjoy some simple, no fuss mental timeouts, then get comfortable, put your headphones on, and just chill.

This soothing non-erotic audio is meant to help de-stress you and help you drift off to sleep. It features what I'm going to call 'gentle ASMR' - breathing, very soft whispering, some soft mouth noises (mostly clicks), a little ear caressing and some scratching, all over top a very faint and gentle ambient loop.
Guiding you through some relaxing breathing, giving you some words of encouragement and advice, and finally ending with a long session of simple binaural breathing to help you drift off.
Sweet dreams xox
