Welcome to the ArtsEd Podcast, where we talk about all things related to drama school training, and the performing arts industry as a whole!
In this episode we will be chatting with Stephen Whitson. Stephen is a professional West End Director who has previously worked as Associate Director for hit shows: Hamilton, Moulin Rouge and West Side Story for BBC Proms. He is also an ArtsEd alum, graduating from the BA Musical Theatre course in 2006. He recently returned to ArtsEd to direct third year musical, Ragtime, so we had a chat with him a week before the show to find out how the rehearsal process went!

In this episode we chatted with successful international choreographer, Ashley Nottingham. Ashley has worked on a number of professional shows for both stage and TV, having recently worked on Strictly Come Dancing - It Takes Two and Snow White starring Craig Revel Horwood. Ashley has worked on many ArtsEd shows over the years, including Top Hat, Disney’s Newsies starring Jac Yarrow, and most recently – Kipps: The New Half a Sixpence Musical. This fun show was exactly what we needed after a grueling lockdown – Ashley had a chat with us about the process, and challenges with choreographing over Zoom!

In episode 5 of the ArtsEd podcast, we have a super quick 15 minute chat with Oscar Toeman. Oscar is a theatre director who trained as a staff and associate director at the National Theatre, as an Assistant Director at the RSC, Shakespeare’s Globe and West End, and the Young Vic’s Springboard programme. In 2020, he directed The Sugar Syndrome at Orange Tree, which was nominated for 4 Off West End Awards, and has directed a number of theatre and drama school productions – including ArtsEd back in 2018! Oscar is now working with ArtsEd’s MA Acting students on their Shakespeare project, so we thought we’d have a quick chat with him about all things Shakespeare, as well as his advice for drama school graduates!
Tom is a London based playwright, theatre director and producer. He is currently the New Work Associate at Kiln Theatre, and was previously Head of Artist Development at The Old Vic. His two back-to-back debut plays were nominated for seven Off West End Awards including Best New Play and Most Promising Playwright.
Tom is now the Writer and Director of two brand new plays: Sirens and White Lies, performed by ArtsEd BA Acting Third Year students from 13-17 October 2020 at the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Theatre as a socially distanced performance. In this episode, BA Acting Third Years and cast members Millie Wilkie and Brayden Emmanuel ask Tom about his work, Queer Theatre, the rehearsal process, and advice for current aspiring actors.
