After a tiny 12 month break(!) we’re excited to be bringing you more episodes of our podcast!

We have renamed the podcast from 'The Rural Marketing Podcast' to 'The Rural Business Podcast'.

As a reminder as to who we are…

Sarah is often also known as The Rural Copywriter. I’m a multi-award-winning copywriter with 18 years experience in large corporate organisations and small business.

Toby runs Billing Metals & Manufacturing.

And we also run The Rural Marketing Company.

Our most exciting news of late is our new publishing company – The Rural Publishing Company.

Supporting regional authors and business owners.

One of our main advantages is that we also own a marketing company – so we can assist with your book marketing, as well as the publishing.

PLUS we can offer business coaching and strategy, to make sure that if you write a business book to position you – that it actually does what you want it to. Business books need a clear purpose and a strategy around how they will fit into your overall marketing ecosystem.

When it comes to publishing, we offer a hybrid self-publishing model. You retain the rights to your work and 100% of your book sale profits. We simply help you get published more easily, far more quickly and much more effectively.

We offer:

A range of publishing packages.

A range of book and writing coaching and support.

We have a 1.5 hour Book Planning & Strategy Session for $88.

We’re currently offering GROUP writing support, in an exclusive, dedicated Facebook group where you can ask us anything you like, over 8 weeks, as you write.

Brilliant for accountability.

We also have collaborative book opportunities. These are great for business owners wanting to get published, leverage other audiences, without having to write or do everything yourself.

We have a few writing and publishing courses. Check out our website for those.

AND – we’re currently accepting submissions from authors who already have either a completed manuscript OR one that’s part way through.

If you’d like to send something through for a free assessment, you can email at hello@theruralpublishingcompany.com.au.

Otherwise, this was just a short – we’re back episode – in future, we’ll be creating some great new content around starting, growing and managing a regional business.

In todays episode, we’re talking about lockdown – and how to cope with it all.

We’re currently locked down in regional Victoria.

This lockdown came as a bit of a shock to us, if we’re honest.

Yesterday, was our daughter Sophie’s birthday – she turned 6.

And for the second year running, she’s had her birthday party cancelled – or at least postponed. The last small lockdown also cancelled our older son Oliver’s 9th birthday party too.

But birthdays aside – this lockdown seems to have hit us harder. And I think many small business owners are feeling the same.

Particularly in Victoria we’re all just so sick of the rollercoaster – and its starting to really wear us down.

That said – there are ways of keeping yourself and your business going and improving – even with the challenges.

In this episode, we cover:

  • The emotional, practical and business challenges.
  • Juggling home-schooling and kids at home, with business commitments.
  • What to do if you're struggling with a lack of motivation.
  • Some handy ideas if you're not getting sales.
  • Where to get support.
  • And ways you can improve your business model.

You'll also find out how you can score one of three, free business and/or marketing coaching sessions with us.

Finally - make sure you get our Free Guide: Get Serious About Your Rural Business Marketing.

And if you need to email us, you can do so at gday@theruralmarketingco.com.au.

Too many business owners jump straight to the advanced marketing tactics, before they’ve gotten the basics sorted.

But without creating the solid foundations within your business and marketing – everything simply falls down.

You don’t get results. Or at least, your results aren’t as good as they could be.

It’s a bit like building a house or a farm shed…

You wouldn’t jump straight into building the walls and the roof – without laying those critical foundations first.

You’d lay that solid concrete slab to ensure your building survives and thrives over time.

So, let’s look at the three critical areas to focus on when you want to build solid marketing foundations.

Business really doesn’t need to feel hard and serious. Nor frustrating and draining.

We can have fun within our business, all while delivering great results to our clients and customers.

In this episode, Toby and Sarah offer helpful advice around:

  • Why they place their priority on 'fun first'.
  • How you can work towards achieving it.
  • Taking time out from business to get better at business.
  • Why customers love fun and entertaining marketing.
  • Why you should stop overcomplicating everything.
  • And how you can achieve more, by going slow and adopting a step-by-step approach.

We also give you the permission you need to choose the things that feel fun to you - rather than trying to force yourself to implement marketing tactics that just aren't you.

Make sure you tune in today - and see whether the Fun First Philosophy could work for you.
