In this episode, we'll dive into a topic near and dear to my heart: the beauty of B.L.A.C.K. Yes, you heard me right - B.L.A.C.K. is Beautiful.

Now, what does B.L.A.C.K. stand for? Well, let me break it down for you. B.L.A.C.K. is an acronym for

Bold,

Limitless,

Authentic,

Courageous,

Kind.

We should all strive to embody these qualities, which truly encapsulate beauty's essence.

B.L.A.C.K. beauty is a tapestry of unique experiences, cultures, and histories that deserve to be celebrated and uplifted.

It's time for us to redefine beauty and appreciate the richness of B.L.A.C.K. beauty. It's about more than just physical appearance -

embracing our individuality,

harnessing our inner strength,

and being unapologetically ourselves.

B.L.A.C.K. Beauty is a powerful force that inspires and empowers others. When we embrace our B.L.A.C.K. beauty, we become walking manifestations of strength, resilience, and grace. Societal expectations or stereotypes do not limit us - we are bold, limitless, authentic, courageous, and kind.

Embracing B.L.A.C.K. beauty is not just about self-acceptance; it's about reclaiming our narratives and rewriting the narrative of beauty in our terms. It's about uplifting each other and creating a world where B.L.A.C.K. beauty is celebrated and revered.

As we wrap up this episode, I want to leave you with a simple reminder: B.L.A.C.K. is Beautiful. It's a celebration of diversity, resilience, and empowerment. It's a reminder that beauty knows no bounds and that we all have the power to redefine what it means to be beautiful.

Embrace and celebrate the beauty of B.L.A.C.K. Until next time, stay bold, limitless, authentic, courageous, and kind. Take care!

Surviving Or Thriving this Christmas Season

Surviving Or Thriving this Christmas Season

Many people think Christmas is always about crisis and chaos due to buying gifts for every family member, visiting every in-law home, and Christmas parties. In reality, that's not true. Here's what I mean...

Often, people think this because:

They visit people they don't like, eat foods they don't need, spend money they don't have, gift people who don't appreciate them, attend work parties, get drunk, and misbehave.

I was right there with them. Here's exactly what I used to believe:

I, too, thought the same.

Let me share with you why I don't think that anymore:

I was more in survival mode before, during, and after the season, which made the season unpleasant. S

I finally realized that I must be authentic and genuine in celebrating Christmas.

Here's how things have changed:

Visit people they like,

Eat foods they need,

Spend the money they have,

Gift people that appreciate them

Everyone needs to understand this means Christmas is about the gift of Christ, who brings peace to earth and goodwill.

Did you know that my first half was a life of defeat?

At that time, debt, depression, disease, disorder, devastation, and divorce all defined my life.

I was completely unaware.

But one day, I got tired because I discovered I could change my life. I could desire again, and with my imagination, I could decide what needed to stop and what things I needed to start. I could precisely define and create the kind of life I wanted.

And I understood that commitment to the plan was the only way to deliver myself to the life of my dream and destiny. I discovered that life is not just a destination but a decision—day by day. And so I began to LET God control the things that only he could. And I decided to let go of the things that have hindered me and grow into the woman I am. I genuinely believe this will help you as it's helped me.

Have I arrived? Oh, certainly not.

But you know what?

My journey's markers have shown the same five principles

  1. Discovery.

  2. Desire with imagination,

  3. The decision to make choices.

  4. Defining and creating

  5. Delivery with a commitment to the plan.

These are steps in Living Everyday Transformed. Join me every Monday at 6 am Central Time US for an exciting episode. See you there.

This is the Folake Dr. O Oluokun podcast. It's been a while since I recorded anything. I don't really have an excuse.

I JUST didn't do it.

You see, I could say it was procrastination.

But there's no such thing. Why do I say there's no such thing?

Because I do the things, I want to do when I tell myself to do them.

Let me scroll back.

When I first started this podcast, I believe it was in 2020. It was the first of February, Black History Month. For some reason, it dawned on me that my experiences as a black woman, an African American, and a Nigerian would help build a bridge in the atmosphere at that time.

So I got on my iPhone and subscribed to Anchor FM at that time. Pressed record, and recorded me. I didn't judge myself. It was just me, whatever for some reason. Even though I've had 53 episodes, decided to judge myself, or decided to critique myself, why not just do it? Today is the 19th of April, 2023.

The first thing I've learned is this.

My attitude will determine my altitude.

My attitude today is an attitude of gratitude.

Can I ask you this question?

ACTION: Can you write down five things you're grateful for tonight?

Because if you don't have five things. I bet you're a jerk like I was,  That's just the lesson for today. Good night everyone.

“We don’t have to be victims of our past, that we can let go of our bitterness, and that all of us can achieve greatness.” ~Nelson Mandela

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”~Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was a social rights activist, politician, and philanthropist who became South Africa’s first Black president from 1994 to 1999. After becoming involved in the anti-apartheid movement in his 20s, Mandela joined the African National Congress in 1942. For 20 years, he directed a campaign of peaceful, nonviolent defiance against the South African government and its racist policies.

Beginning in 1962, Mandela spent 27 years in prison for political offenses. In 1993, Mandela and South African President F.W. de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to dismantle the country's apartheid system. For generations to come, Mandela will be a source of inspiration for civil rights activists worldwide.

I just think we can have a long-lasting effect on people's lives if we can do things together instead of as individuals, ... I just felt like when you're sitting at home and everyone's calling you and everyone's pretty much in distress, it's like, 'I have to do something.~ Warrick Dunn

Warrick Dunn is a former American football running back on to play five seasons with the Buccaneers, six seasons with the Falcons, and then one final year with the Buccaneers, drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12th overall in the 1997 NFL Draft, after playing college football at Florida State.

Warrick is perhaps best known for his involvement in philanthropy. As a rookie for Tampa Bay, Warrick founded our Homes for the Holidays program to fulfill his mother’s dream of homeownership for single-parent families. The program partners with local organizations to turn houses into homes for single-parent families through home furnishings and down-payment assistance. Since its inception, Homes for the Holidays has furnished 169 homes, provided over $800,000 in down-payment assistance, and served over 457 single parents and children.

The impact of Homes for the Holidays inspired Warrick to expand into three additional programs: Count on Your Future, Sculpt, and Hearts for Community Service Scholarships, all housed today under the Warrick Dunn Charities umbrella. Together, the four programs are dedicated to strengthening and transforming communities by combating poverty, hunger, and improving the quality of lives for families academically, socially, and economically.

Raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Warrick Dunn was the oldest of six to his single mother, Betty Smothers, a police officer killed while escorting a businesswoman to make a night deposit. Warrick was only 18 years old.

Thrust into the role of head of the household, Warrick used his mother’s life insurance to purchase a home for his younger siblings. He would ultimately choose to fulfill his mother’s dream and play at Florida State University.

Dunn, with the help of his grandmother, managed to both parent and be a brother to his siblings from afar, while becoming one of the best backs the Seminoles have ever seen.
