Tudoriferous: Recent Episodes

Tudoriferous

Join us, Michelle and Lucy, for a mildly diverting delve into the great, the good, the mad, the brave, the outrageous, the mischievous and the truly preposterous folk of the Tudor Age.  Two enthusiastic Tudorphiles discuss each in turn and give them marks out of ten for intrigue, martyrdom, posterity and rise & fall before deciding whether they are Tudorlicious.

Recently, on Patreon, we've been looking at Russia, and particularly the life and times of Grand Prince Ivan III of Moscow.

To give everyone a taste of this fascinating history, and to hear from someone who really knows a lot about Russian history, we've invited Roberto from Tsar Power to tell us all about Early Modern Russia.

Why must Russian rulers be so ruthless? What makes 19th century Russian novels so rich and fascinating? And what exactly is the difference between a bow and an affectionate bow? Find out all this and more...

Hear more from Roberto on Tsar Power, The History of Saqartvelo Georgia... and Quest for Power!

For the 200th episode of Tudoriferous, we present a full performance of "Fulgens and Lucrece" the masterpiece of the first known English playwright, Henry Medwall!

Who will Lucrece, the wise and beautiful daughter of Roman Senator Fulgens, marry? Will she choose the noble but morally dubious Cornelius, or the common but upstanding Gaius? And will their servants, the oddly-named A and B, stop making metatheatrical jokes and chasing her maid Joan for long enough to help? Be warned, we've put the explicit tag on this episode for a reason, the humour of the 1490s was sometimes rather direct...

Thank you so much to the History Podcast Players!

As well as David and Lucy from Tudoriferous, playing A and Joan respectively, this performance features the voices of:

B - Michael from Quest for Power

Fulgens - Quinn from Nobelesse Oblige

Cornelius - Simon from The History of Venice

Lucrece - Meredith from The Alexander Standard

Gaius - Roberto from Tsar Power, and The History of Saqartvelo Georgia... and Quest for Power too!

Why was parliament so full of marriage councelors? What do Eleanor of Provence and Liz Truss have in common? What did the members of the House of Commons have to fear from hordes of hungry monks? And why did Penny Mordaunt give a long parliamentary speech about chickens? You might need to cover any young listeners' ears for that one...

Hello! Welcome to our first episode on Tudor era people. In our first season we are looking at those who lived during the Reign of Henry VII. Were Did they intrigue at the court? Did they rise gloriously or fall with a stratospheric cratering? Did they leave anything to the world after their death? How willing were they to die for their beliefs or convictions? What did they look like, did they leave messages in their portraits? This will be a fun, lighthearted look at the Tudor age and those who lived in it.

First up, a fun whistle stop tour of Henry VII's era to put all of our subjects in context.
