We are located in Mount Vernon, Ohio, roughly 1 hour north of Columbus. KPH serves a beautiful 530 sq. mile rural community of about 62K residents. As a local agency, we are proud to represent our community & thrilled to bring you this podcast to highlight the great work being done in public health in our county and beyond.
It's no secret that we are tax payer, grant, and minimal fees funded to run all of the various services here at the health deaprtment. We take it very seriously how each and every dollar is allocated. Health equity has become a big buzzword in the health space in the last decade; but, what does it actually mean? What is equity? What makes it different than equality? Why is it so important? We brought in our friends from Licking and Franklin Counties to talk about about health equity from their community standpoints, share ways they are working to close equity gaps, and talk about how even though we live in different places - the goal of an equitable world for all, remains the same.
