Tony Lowden is pastor for former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter, and he is a chaplain for the Secret Service in Southwest Georgia. He was appointed by the White House in 2019 as Executive Director of the Federal Interagency Council on Crime Prevention and Improving Reentry.
Lowden has more than 20 years of experience on the local, state, and national levels, assisting criminal justice-involved individuals with opportunities for successful outcomes. In his role, He provided leadership and vision for the continuous expansion of interactive reintegration services to not only prepare incarcerated youths and adults for life after release, but for them to successfully reintegrate into and remain in their communities as contributing members of society.

CJJA fulfills its mission through educational activities and programs as well as research and technical assistance projects. Education activities include a series of annual meetings for members offering sessions on best practices and evidence-based approaches. The meetings convene leaders from each state and selected large counties to share information, identify issues and strategies to address them and form a national voice for system-involved youth. Education activities also include presentations at conferences hosted by other national organizations and disseminating written materials to the public and policymakers about key issues in juvenile justice, describing the youths and their needs and the system’s successes and shortcomings

Jarrod Leffler, Ph.D., is a board certified child and adolescent psychologist. Dr. Leffler received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Saint Louis University. He completed his internship at Harvard Medical School and the Children’s Hospital, Boston, and his fellowship in child and adolescent mood disorders at Ohio State University. Prior to working at VCU Health where Dr. Leffler is the Chair of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychology and Associate Professor, he spent a decade at the Mayo Clinic, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology, Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Leffler serves on the editorial board of Evidence-based Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy, as well as, is a member of the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy (ABCT) Dissemination and Implementation Science Special Interest Group; Bipolar Disorder Special Interest Group; and Child and Adolescent Depression Special Interest Group.

Maurice “Moe” Hobson Jr, a native of Houston, Texas and a graduate of The Jack Yates Senior High School. He is an alumnus of West Texas A&M University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He is happily married to his lovely wife, Cuca Hobson and proud father to Margarita, Maurice III and McKenzie. Pooh-Paw to granddaughter Kai.
Moe is currently a Human Resource Training Specialist at Harris County Juvenile Probation Department. He has had worked in many areas of the department such as; Education Services, Personnel, Court Service and Accreditation and Quality Assurance. He also has 20 + years of experience as a coach, a community servant, radio personality, entrepreneur, motivational speaker and PTO President. Moe is a frequent speaker on juvenile justice topics such as; Staff Development, Team Building, Behavior Management, Crisis Response Intervention, Officer Safety, Social Media Awareness, LGBTQ+, Generational Differences and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Moe strongly believes when you learn, get excited about it! Then teach it with passion and enthusiasm.

This week, I'm gonna interview Dr. Matt McNiff. Matt and I have been friends for a number of years, and he was definitely high on the list of dads that I wanted to interview when I thought about this podcast. Dr. McNiff has been a member of the educational service unit five in Nebraska since 2000.
From 2006 and 2016, he's been the behavior consultant for ESU five and in 2016, he became the director of special education. As the director of special education. Matt works with ESU 5 schools to assist in supervising and developing special education programs for children with disabilities from ages birth through 21. He definitely has an interest in the field of behavior disorders, autism, and really children with profound disorders. Matt will tell you about his family, but Matt's really got kind of a unique thing going on. And I really just want us to dive in to the first part of this interview, where we talk about Matt's son Jackson who's a senior this year and Matt's son Ben who's been diagnosed with autism who started his freshman year.

Today's episode, we're gonna pivot and talk about Christopher's work life. As he's spent over 20 some years, working with youth and knows the impact that dads can have on their children. Christopher started off in Maine in 1995, working as a senior youth and family Counselor. He then moved to Richmond, Virginia in January of 2001, and started working as a behavior specialist for United Methodist Family Services, otherwise known as UMFS.
When he left UMFS, he had spent really almost 13 years working as the assistant director for child and family healing center. Today. Christopher spends his time at the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls. He started there as the director of group care services. And today spends his time in community engagement and program development.
So I just wanna jump in where we left off, after last episode of talking to Christopher about his experience of being a dad and being raised by his dad to this week, looking at what Christopher has done and continues to do for the youth in. We pick up where Christopher and I left off last episode.
