Part of the theme of 1 Peter is blessing inherited by accepting the gospel. Again, as it relates to our series, we could say that 1 Peter lays out the desired features of our new means of movement. Last week was the gift of grace and this week is The Possibility of Reward…something given in recognition of service, effort, or achievement.
Just a few months ago, our new discipleship pastor spoke up in a meeting and said, “Can August be a month where our people are encouraged to sort of test drive what we have to offer them here at Lindsay Lane?” ABSOLUTELY! A Test Drive is an opportunity for the consumer to move one step closer to what they want or what they need. Many of you here today have taken a test drive. A needed and somewhat nervous drive to see if this is how you want to travel all the time knowing that something more would be to your benefit. Our life as a follower of Jesus often puts us in that position.
It sounds like a line out of a popular song or a personal empowerment message read on social media…or something that one of those instructors on the peloton commercials would say to you as you are riding your stationary bike up an imaginary mountain in your living room. “The world is yours! Everything belongs to you…just one more mile!” But it’s a biblical truth that God’s Word says to those who live and believe in Jesus: Everything Belongs to You.
