Scripture, alone is said to be "God-breathed" and by it alone believers are complete & equipped for- every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
The doctrine of Sola Scriptura is the Bibles position, not a promotion of a certain denomination.
It is the written Word that is to be our guidance and source for living a spiritual life. We are admonished to teach sound doctrine which encompasses the whole counsel of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation.
Numerous doctrines are to be accepted for one to be called a Christian. This is why it is so very important to understand these doctrines and abide in them as we are told in 2 John 9.

In this teaching we will look at the Baptisms in the Bible. We will look at all the Bible passages taken out of context by some to try and prove "water baptism saves" (which it does not). We will then look at the Book of Acts and understand the various chapters dealing with the coming of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible makes it consistently clear that when a person believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ then they are saved. The Bible does not teach that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is at a separate time.
The fact that the Gentiles received the Holy Spirit before their baptism should eliminate all the confusion since Truth cannot contradict. Cornelius and his group were saved before they were water baptized, they received the Holy Ghost as proof.
Water Baptism is not the gospel because the gospel is something you believe in, not something you do. Mk.16:16 can be paralleled with Jn. 3:18, “He that believeth on Him (Christ) is not condemned” shows unanimously with the rest of Scripture, that believing is what saves and removes us from condemnation without water baptism. However, water Baptism is important and should not be neglected, it is an act of obedience to Christ, who gave this ordinance to the church. But if done TO BE saved you have missed the gospel.
Lets look at one last Scripture.
Eph. 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.”
Here Paul explains after hearing the gospel of your salvation and the emphasis is on believing (having faith in its message) you are sealed with the promise – the Holy Spirit. This should be sufficient if one goes by the clear statements of his letters to the Church. Paul continues this though saying in Eph. 3:17 “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love.” And when did this happen? When you first believed, according to Paul.
I pray this information helps you to see Scripture in context and understand this subject more clearly.

There are many sincere Christians who Satan and his demons have tormented spiritually and emotionally into thinking they have committed an unpardonable sin, during a moment of weakness, or confusion during trials. Maybe they said something concerning the Holy Spirit they wish they had not and now live in condemnation and continual demonic oppression sometimes. Which is a horrible thing, but that’s not what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is, but something very different.
The “unpardonable sin” was done in a cognizant way with calculation, knowing that Jesus was from God and even possibly the Messiah. Now after knowing all this they deliberately attributed Jesus’s power to Satan. What the Holy Spirit was doing through Jesus, they were attributing it to the Work of Satan. This was done in order to mislead others from the way of Truth and Salvation.
The religious establishment was up against their own Messiah wanting to keep power for their own self interests.
I along with many others believe this “unpardonable sin” was unique to the generation Jesus spoke to and only possible on that side of Pentecost. Let me explain from the Scripture.
This Unpardonable sin was a national sin a collective sin committed by Israel in rejecting Jesus as the “Promised Messiah” while He was physically present among them in the flesh. It was done by their seeing and rejecting His miracles being from God, blaming it on a demonic spirit. It was the Pharisee’s that lead the people to attribute the miracles that Jesus performed not to the Holy Spirit, but to an unclean spirit. This event is unique to the generation of His day, that while he was physically present, they watched Him do the miracles and attributed them to his being demon possessed.
Blasphemy of the spirit has nothing to do with being saved and losing your salvation, those who blasphemed were unbelievers not believers.
Again, keep in mind that this is not an individual sin but a national sin by a nation. This did not mean that no individual could be saved because many were saved who previously spoke this. Even the apostle Paul formerly Saul a Pharisee, killed Christians and very well could have been on this decision of rejection. As a nation their judgment was imminent which took place approximately 40 years after his death and resurrection. As individuals he gave them a way out.
So, if you're a believer and wondering if you have committed this type of sin today, rest assured you have not.
No matter what position you take on the view of the unpardonable sin, we know for certain it is done in a cognizant way with calculation and not some spontaneous accident. We also know that Jesus died for all sins and “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” If any man repents of any sin, he can be saved. There is no exception clause in Scripture. To deny that the Blood of Christ atones for all sin is error. John said, “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 – All sin means All sin.

The Bible uses typology to teach us about doctrine and prophecy. Listen to these similarities between Joseph and Jesus. This is not a complete list, but it will encourage you to dive in and find some for yourself!
We have to keep a Godly perspective in trials. Don't look at the circumstances, God has engineered for you, as "happening to you" BUT as "happening for you." God disciplines His children and allows suffering for many reasons, some of which we may never understand.
Every believer on earth will suffer, it has always been this way. If you have no suffering in your life, then maybe you are not seeking to live a godly life (see - 2 Timothy 3:12). The righteous are indeed afflicted (see- Psalm 34:19).
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
(John 16:33b)
Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. (2 Timothy 3:12)
The phrase overcome is used by John more than any other writer.
I Jn. 2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.
I Jn. 4:4 “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
It is repeatedly mentioned in the book of Revelation from Jesus for the saints to remain steadfast:
Rev. 2:7 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God."' (2:17, 26, 3:5, 12, 21)
John ends the Revelation of Jesus Christ with the promise Rev 21:7 "He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son."
How do we overcome the world? Our faith, and it is based on our relationship to the Son of God. 1 Jn. 5:4-5 "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"
James 1:2-5 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
1 Peter 1:6-7 “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith , being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ”
1 Peter 2:20-21 “when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.”

There are no christian “gurus”. A Pastor, a Bible teacher or any leader among believers is only as good or right as they conform to the Word of God. It’s never to be what “my pastor” says or what anyone says. Every believer will be judged on how they respond to the Truth and for what they believe. We need to test everything according to God's Word.
We are not called to be “sin sniffers” but we are commanded to examine, anything being taught, by the Scripture. Pastors fall too and because people put their trust in those men, the people fall into disappointment and disarray when they fall.
Christians that insist on the Holy Scriptures as their only most trusted source of spiritual knowledge and truth are mocked as being unspiritual and some consider them to be in idolatry of a book. However, the Bible says to, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
Experientialists just want you to move free with the spirit. But to have a spirit divorced from the Word proves it cannot be the same Holy Spirit who wrote the Word. The Word of God is Truth (John 14:6; 17:17). The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13). You cannot separate the two.
Those who exercise discernment make themselves more of a target to be attacked more than any other ministry because they are contending with the truth against the falsehood that is so prevalent today.
Today, in most churches If discerning believers obey the "negative" biblical commands of Christ they are unloving. If they carefully test things by the Bible it is called unloving. If they warn about false gospels it is unloving.
Please be very cautious with all these Christian help books and special devotionals. The entire Bible is sufficient all by itself to mend broken hearts, heal relationships and bring encouragement as well as profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Due to the over emphasis placed on special anointings and laying on of hands, by many of the Pentecostal and hyper-charismatic brethren, we need to look at what God’s Word says about the claimed transferring of an anointing. The laying on of hands has become a Pentecostal tradition that is far removed from its original meaning in Scripture.
Many people are still being taught today, that they need to get an impartation from some anointed preacher.
This is contrary to Scripture, which states that we all have the same standing before God “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16)
All believers have the same Holy Spirit and Christ as our mediator. We can all receive from Jesus, Who is the One we should all be seeking.
Going to a certain person or meeting to seek an anointing by impartation is unbiblical. No other person is to be our mediator to receive the Holy Spirit of gifts of the Holy Spirit. Whenever men become mediators, Christ’s teachings diminish, and men’s teachings increase. We are then giving those men control over our lives, and not the Lord Jesus.

Notice in Matthew 10:1-5 Jesus clearly mentions, in no less than five times, that he was talking to the 12 apostles. In fact Jesus even mentions them by name should there be any confusion. Notice there was also territory restrictions, "to the house of Israel". This power was also for a limited time and it ended no later than Matthew 28, when Jesus commissions them to go the end of the world. Also these apostles were told to take nothing with them and rely totally on God's provision. They were not wealthy apostles traveling the world performing healing crusades and the like. (Mt 10:9-10)
And when he [Jesus] had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Mt 10:1 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these;(v2) These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: Mt 10:5
Jesus has ALL authority not any man or self-proclaimed apostle or prophet today. The apostles of the first century, the 12 apostles were unique and a set permanent number, much like the 12 sons of Jacob. It was a unique office and the foundation of the church. Where a foundation is built, no more is to be laid.
Later in Matthew 28, Jesus commanded the apostles to go and teach ALL He commanded them. We see this all throughout the New Testament. No where did the apostles or Jesus teach believers to cast out demons or perform miracles. Mark 16 says “and these signs followed”. Jesus taught the apostles to teach us, to evangelize, baptize, disciple, pray and other things but never to go for the purpose of performing miracles and exorcisms. The signs and miracle were to authenticate the apostolic authority in the first century. In 2 Cor 12:12, Paul tells us that they were unique to the apostles, otherwise they would not be a sign of an apostle, if they were for all believers for all time.
Speaking to the eleven apostles Jesus says,” All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20
In Luke 10 we have a similar situation. Jesus was speaking to specifically 70 disciples and NOT to all disciples for all time. These were specifically 70 disciples who were chosen to go to specific cities/places where “Jesus Himself was going (Lk. 10:1). They were not to be concerned with the essentials of life, but were to trust God.
Notice the 70 disciples had a beginning and an end to their mission. In Luke 10:17 they ended their mission. The places for Jesus to stay had been prepared. In verse 19 we have the perfect Greek tense used for the power Jesus gave to the disciples. The Greek perfect tense describes a completed action, which this was, that also produces results that are still in effect all the way up to the present, which they were.
Both Matthew 10 and Luke 10 describe missions that had specific parameters and instructions that also had an end. They are not continued missions for the Church today. Matthew 10 was only for the remnant Jews. This changes in Matthew 28 when Jesus gives a new command to the Apostles.
Mark 16 and the gifts of the Spirit are a separate subject. They will be addressed more closely in the future.
The terms “binding” and “loosing” in the Second Temple period were used by the Rabbi’s Legislatively and Judicially. The Pharisees claimed to have had this authority to bind and to loose, but God never gave it to them. In rabbinic thought asur means “to bind” and mutar means “to loose”. These terms were used Legislatively in that “to bind” meant to forbid and “to loose” meant to permit. Judicially “to bind” meant to punish and “to loose” meant not to punish or set free from punishment.
Jesus gave Peter first and then all the Apostles the authority to bind and to loose, both Judicially and Legislatively. Remember there is no apostolic succession and therefore this authority was never passed on beyond the Apostles.
The Church has no authority to bind and to loose legislatively. This means no authority to bind, meaning to issue further rules and regulations for believers to follow. Likewise, it has no authority to loose, meaning to release believers from the rules of Scripture. All the Church can do is excommunicate a sinner as seen in Matthew 18. The only binding and loosing in the church today has to do with breaking or not-breaking fellowship with a sinning believer.
Now let’s look at the Greek Syntax. The context here is future, perfect, indicative.
The Amplified Bible version helps to bring out the Greek tenses in Matthew 16:19:
I will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven.”
In Matthew 18:18 the context is Church discipline. Clearly, there is no mention in either Matthew 16 or 18 of any spiritual warfare. There is no mention of Satan or Demons or waging any kind of battle in the heavenlies.
Tune in later for more in context teachings on passages in Mark 16, Matthew 10 and Luke 10.
In the future will also be covering Spiritual Warfare and what that means in context.
In this Episode we will look closely at Acts 4:13 and what the Bible says about having Bible education.
