“Struck by Science” is a podcast series in which we aim to present contemporary phenomena, events and challenges from the scientific perspective. The purpose of the series is to explore social and political issues from an academic position. In each episode, we invite researchers from different countries and fields of science to reflect on the scientific approach to the topic of the episode. The podcast is aimed at anyone who wants to peer behind a veil of scientific knowledge and find out how different researchers see the challenges of the contemporary times.

Die Folge von unserer Podcast-Reihe ist sprachlichen Fragen gewidmet, vor allem dem Phänomen der Mehrsprachigkeit und der Sprachlehr- und Lernforschung einschließlich Polnisch als Fremdsprache und als so genannte Herkunftssprache. Unsere Gäste sind:

- Natalie Kosch, MA - Lektorin für polnische Sprache am Institut für Slawistik der Universität Wien und Doktorandin am Zentrum für polnische Sprache und Kultur für AusländerInnen "Polonicum" an der Universität Warschau.

Kolejny odcinek serii Struck by Science poświęcony jest zagadnieniom językoznawczym, przede wszystkim zjawisku wielojęzyczności, oraz nauczaniu języków obcych, w tym języka polskiego jako obcego, a także jako tzw. języka odziedziczonego. Naszymi Gośćmi są:

W tym odcinku naszego podcastu "Struck by Science" omawiamy pozycję kobiet-naukowczyń w środowisku akademickim i to jak zmieniła się ich sytuacja pod wpływem pandemii COVID-19. Jednym z głównych tematów naszej dyskusji jest raport „Deepening inequalities: What did COVID-19 reveal about the gendered nature of academic work?”, który omawia temat pogłębiania nierówności i tego co COVID-19 ujawnił na temat charakteru pracy akademickiej pod względem płci. W każdym odcinku zapraszamy badaczy z różnych krajów i dziedzin nauki do refleksji nad tematu danego odcinka.
In this episode we are going to discuss the great change that parents, children and students were forced to face: distance learning. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in different time frames schools were closed, forcing children and parents to organize school in a form of distance learning. The whole education system must have been adjusted to this type of schooling. And, understandably, it raised many questions, doubts and problems.

In this episode we attempt to analyze the characteristics of the modern political discourse and its radical form – hate speech. We will focus on the definition of the hate speech and its place within the political discourse as well as the possible attempts of eradicating it from the public debate.
