We've discussed the stories of our beloved brothers and sisters in the LGBTQ community covering the stages from coming out to celebrating their lifestyles. In celebration of pride month, we delve further into the next step of some couples: starting their own families. We have our special guest couple Kumares Rizz and Tina. Tune in as we listen to their love story, the good cop, bad cop moments of raising their son together, and all the ups and downs dealing with the rest of the world.
Last week was all about Blended Families w/ special guests, Father-daughter duo, Tito Jay and Kerry. This week we continue to admire their close bond, and discuss the journey they're on figuring out how their modern family best works with added newer siblings, step parents and more.
A blended family is a couple's combined family containing two or more children, where at least one child is the natural or adopted child of both members of the couple, and at least one other is the stepchild of either partner in the relationship. We have father and daughter tandem returning to our podcast: Season 2's guest, DJ Tito Jay, along with his beautiful daughter, Kerri. In this episode we see both sides to the blended family, one from the perspective of a single dad finding the love of his life then introducing her to his child, and on the other side from the perspective of a daughter growing up between two different households. The trend of globalisation has led to societies and cultures that are less and less homogenous. The Philippines for one having a colourful history of colonisation and trade with other countries is a melting pot of cultural influences. Even so there's still a pervasive close-mindedness when it comes to other cultures Filipino society has deemed other. This is especially notable in the practice of marriage and romantic relationships. Here comes our married couple; Kumareng Beryl and Kumpareng Odin, both Filipinos but navigating their experiences differently; one hailing from Hong Kong, the other from Nigeria, later studying and living in the Philippines. One might think of divorce as final, that after a relationship, a chapter in one's life closes and each party must move on. But sometimes, when circumstances and growth allows it, the flames of the past come back and a couple can continue where they left off. Growing up as Filipino children in a Pinoy household we've all had the distinct pleasure of being asked to perform in front of the many relatives for any event under the sun. From an early age the entertainer spark had been coaxed out of us but only some brave souls proceed to do something with these talents and pursue a career in the performing arts. Tita Baby is an all rounder from singing to acting, painting, to cooking and doing charity work on the side, she makes sure to make full use of her time, fully booked 24/7. Join us as she regales us with tales of years growing up in Hong Kong almost fully local-trying her hand expanding and honing her interests.

In a city always on the go here is a man who is a self confessed jack of all trades. Primarily known as a Radio DJ he gives the voice and insights to the many on goings keeping our HK Pinoys updated on the news from back home. Travelling from the Philippine during a poignant part of history he has only known Hongkong as his home but still he feels compelled to give back to his fellow Pinoys. Let's hear the story of Kumpareng Jay or DJ the Big Jay.
Canada the land known for ice sports such as hockey, the beautiful national parks and for poutine. The locals worship at Tim Hortons and people are too polite for their own good, ey. These are all stereotypes, but Canada still holds allure for the many Pinoys who want to find their homes outside of the Philippines, the perceived friendlier alternative to it's neighbor, USA. We travel there to the city of Winnipeg with our guest kumareng Charmagne. Moving at a later age, she recounts how her move wasn't much of a transition since the country has a huge Filipino population. She grows closer to the locals who welcome her with open arms. Listen to her story of acceptance, and finding kinship outside of your own race.
Filipinos are natural born performers, may it be singing or dancing. You'd be hard pressed to find a filipino who didn't enjoy belting out at a karaoke or willing to join in on a jamming session. We are world class talents known for our versatility, our ability to pick up any genre or belt any tune. For that very reason a job in the music field or being a musician was once the most popular profession in Hong Kong. As early as 1950s there was a drove of imports of talents from the Philippines. Filipino Musicians were treated like celebrities, they played with the likes of Jacky Cheung, Anita Mui etc. But years have passed since the golden age and musicians and live performances have become a rarity in this pandemic world. Join us as we hear the highs and the lows of a father and son trodding similar paths.
This episode we travel to an island country in the southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean, New Zealand. A place well known for it's great quality of life where family time is as important as work which is guaranteed from 9 to 3. We have the story of a young Pinay who grew up in a pretty sheltered existence having to relearn all as she joins her husband as a new wife in a new city. She articulates dealing with changes, going through inward growth, having to step up and become independent as she continues her education as well as music pursuits and finds herself connecting with a completely different culture.

Air Hostesses, Flight attendant, F.A, Cabin Crew; they are known by many names and have many expectations and responsibilities attached to them. We've explored this very profession before not too long ago but this time we go further back to the golden ages of aviation when a certain company was just starting to expand and a young lady from the Philippines decided to try her luck and make her destiny in a different city. We cover her career spanning thirty-plus years and the changes that came along with it. We hear her journey, her struggles growing into her own and finding herself and yearning to make a life elsewhere, and yet wanting to remain close by to what is familiar all set in a different time period in history.
You ever met someone and think you know what they do for a living but actually what they're doing is merely a hobby, a passion that they do well but they have a completely unexpected day job or occupation? That's how it was with our next guest, Ron. We first met him in his role as an energetic fireball of a zumba instructor on the weekend, but later transformed into a serious professional banker during the week. We have him regaling us with his tales of finding work in hongkong and building a community for pinoys as well as other nationalities within his Zumba events.
One might be hard pressed to find a job more associated with Filipinos than nursing. It's become a sorta stereotype on it's own actually. Thousand upon thousands of hopefuls in the Philippines train to take on the profession and set their sights abroad. Why abroad? Nursing is a very in demand profession but more so in foreign countries. As early as the 1960's the US had started to import Filipino Nurses after a shortage of nurses following WW2- and even earlier at the beginning of their occupation they had them trained in the American curriculum. So for many years now it was a given for Nurses to spread their wings and make the leap to greener pastures. For our newest episode we have Mars Rae who was raised in the states and found Nursing all on her own. She shares her experiences-the long hours, the risks that come along with it-and the ways she has taken the stereotype in stride and made it her own. She shares tales of finding connection with her Filipino side thru old teleseryes and the Pinoy community in California, and of coming home to meet her relatives and adjusting to seeing a land were you had hailed from but barely know.

Their lives look effortless and glamorous on the outside but there is more to this profession than meets the eye. With our next guest, Kumareng Joey, we explore the ins and outs of such a career. We see her journey, what it took to achieve the dream of many, how she arrived at this chosen profession of hers and how she has evolved and what she has learned and gained from it.
Teaching is one of the most important professions. They are superheroes called to serve, they are the force that shape the minds of tomorrow's leaders. Is it to have Johnson's baby powder and a towel placed at your back when you got too sweaty as a kid? Is it to have the habit of doing the sign of the cross when passing by churches? Or perhaps having to beg/ask your Ninongs and Ninangs for money come Christmas?
In this episode, we ponder all the elements that make up our culture. We discuss all the good things: food, language, traditional costumes, and fiestas, as well as the not so good: Filipino time, Utang na Loob, Pakitang Tao as well as the confines of being expected to act like a Dalagang Pilipina in this day and age.

Where na you? A Taglish phrase. We ask this when we want to find the answer to different questions including where we are geographically. It can even pertain to the "where" we are in life or being asked about our current state when we're lost and trying to find our way. We start this podcast by covering our origin stories: where we come from, how we ended up in Hong Kong, how our friendship formed. We also cover growing up, visiting the Philippines, culture shock and many other experiences about finding our Filipino identity and finding our place in a culture away from home.
