Welcome to this episode of the Mindset Blueprint! The Only Podcast You Need to Redesign Your Mind and Level-Up.

I used to get stressed over things I couldn't control. You name it...the weather, politics, outcomes of sporting events, what other people thought about me, etc., etc. The main problem with worrying about something you cannot control? You can't do anything to fix it. You just grind, and grind away, wasting your worry.

But with a little help from Stoicism, I eventually learned that I could greatly reduce my stress, just by choosing not to worry about things I couldn't control and acting on the things I could control.

Without further ado.

Let's eliminate some stress...

I used to be a terrible listener. I talked too long. I talked over others. I daydreamed while they were speaking. I spent the whole conversation thinking of what I wanted to say next.

But then it dawned on me. The more I talked the less I learned. I was just repeating what I already knew...over and over. So I made a commitment to become a better listener. Listening is a skill I am still trying to improve upon to this very day.

Without further ado.

Let's listen up...

I used to count on external forces to make my life better. I hoped for sunny days, the stock market to do good, and the approval of others.

In other words...I was betting on things outside of my control.

But then I realized the only way to get what I want in life is to bet on things I can control.

Like myself.

Without further ado.

Let's place some wagers...

Then I realized I should approach life like a scientist and use the right tools to examine the progress of my days and years.

Welcome to the 13th episode of the Mindset Blueprint! The Only Podcast You Need to Redesign Your Mind and Level-Up.

I used to suffer from the disease of "What if?" What if this happens? What if that happens. What if I make a mistake? What if it goes wrong?  All my "what if" thinking made me afraid to take risks. I was risk-averse. But, over time, I learned that not taking risks is the riskiest thing you can do.

Without further ado.

Let's take some risks...

I used to take things for granted. I had so many great things in my life and I didn't appreciate them nearly as much as I should have. I assumed that was just the kind of person I was, an ungrateful one.

But over time I learned, gratitude is a skill that requires practice. The more I practiced, the better I got.

Without further adieu.

Let's get grateful...

I used to wake up at the last possible moment. I would hit the snooze button and finally drag myself out of bed when I absolutely had to. My mornings were rushed and lead to a stressful day. Then I realized that I had a choice. I could choose to wake up early and live my mornings with peaceful intention. As always, Stoicism helps me do this.

Without further adieu.

For years, I saw the work I did as "just a job." Something I did for eight hours a day to get paid. Watching the clock, wishing the workday would get over. Knot in my stomach on Sunday. Drudgery...part of the "rat race."

But, over time, I learned that it wasn't up to my job to bring meaning to my life. It was up to me to bring meaning to my job. That discovery helped me to turn my profession into a mission.

Without further adieu.

When we blame someone, or something, for our problems, we are pointing our finger at them. We are saying "this is your fault", and absolving ourselves from the role we play in the problem.

Instead of blaming.

You can spot a Stoic from a mile away.

How? Well, they just act differently than other people. They tend to be quiet. They don't get worked up over things as easily as other people do. They keep their cool when others are panicking. They generally tend to be happy people who are content with their lives.

But mostly, you can spot them because they follow 7 distinct habits that distinguish them as Stoics. Once you know their habits, Stoics stick out like a sore thumb.

I present to you...The 7 Habits of Highly Stoic People.
