Another season in the books! Following tradition, we wrap up this season with another tipsy Q&A. We talk about turnoffs, pranks, how we felt about this season, and somehow go on a tangent about finance, making 100k, and retiring by 25. Thank you for another wonderful season <3

In this episode, we bring back Melissa and Newton to do a random Q&A but make it... Vietlish??? Vietlish, Vietnamese-English, is when Vietnamese speakers incorporate English words into their sentences. In this case, we sprinkle Vietnamese into English sentences.
We surprised each other with fun questions such as:
...and more!

thank, u next! Going through a toxic friendship & breakup is tough, how does one define the “best friend” label? Arlene and Jim share how they’ve dealt with shit-disturber energy, possessive best friends, one-way relationships, and defensiveness in toxic friendships. They come full circle and talk about how it ended, and what they’re learned from the sendoff. Everything from jealousy, anger, spite to envy vs greed and its vindictive nature, it all comes down to listening to your gut feeling, intuition, and to others you trust. Do they pass the ~vibe~ check?

Wrapping up season 3, we’ve decided to continue the tradition by ending the season a little tipsy with a drunk would you rather. We also share some of our recent life lessons and what has been on our minds these days. From finding comfort in knowing that people grow apart, setting boundaries, being an empath, to how listening is a lot more difficult than speaking - we pretty much brain dump everything into this episode. We end by sharing how we feel going into our last school year EVER (for now lol).

We can’t believe we’re almost at the end of Season 3!!! To wrap up this season, we have a fellow podcaster, creator of “I’m In My Twenties?!”, two-time recipient of the Asian Podcast Awards, Meg, to help us reflect and reminisce on our podcasting journey! In this episode, we both share how it was like to start a podcast, funny moments from recording and advice we wish we knew before we started. We are so incredibly grateful for the memories we’ve made with our guests, the lessons we’ve learned and all the heart-warming messages we’ve gotten from our listeners. Cheers to episode 29 and many more episodes to come!! <3333

Where is the line? In this episode, we are joined by Jennifer Iyke, who shares and discusses her experience with cultural appropriation. Jennifer talks about how Black culture has been appropriated, laying your edges, the history behind braids & cornrows, and how colonization & slavery have brainwashed us. We also try to differentiate appropriation and appreciation when it comes to Asian food and culture. From Guccis’ use of a Sikh turban, misuse of the Japanese aesthetic, to Kacey Musgraves wearing an Ao Dai WITHOUT the pants, how long are we going to let these things slide? We end the episode with some Do’s/Don’ts of Cultural Appropriation from The Atlantic. Respect the culture and do your research because cultural exchange is important.

Having privilege means we grow up with the ability to forget about aspects of who we are. We go on about our lives easily because we represent the majority demographics of our society. If we don’t stop and think for a second to recognize the ways that we are privileged, this can hurt the people around us. In this episode, we discuss the ways that privilege does or does not show up in our lives and how to speak up on behalf of those without it. We hope you take from this episode that people with privilege are highly effective when it comes to influencing change.

The motherland. This one’s all about the first time visiting the Philippines and culture shocks, with Georgia’s cousins, Leah and Jessica! Leah talks about excitedly meeting family for the first time with her broken Ilocano, the windy roads from Manila to Cagayan, and hearing the national anthem in church for the first time. Jessica recalls the first time she visited during Christmas and carolling with other kids to her most recent trip - from clubbing in Makati to surfing in La Union. We all share our stories from how we dealt with the heat, food poisoning, brownouts to the various modes of transporation and EDSA traffic. We also discuss culture shocks - the skin whitening and having to cover up. Where do we want to visit next? Lots of laughs in this one!

We also dive into other leadership roles, work experience, and what we learned from these positions in terms of career. Did we always know what industry we wanted to go into? Tune in to find out!

In this episode, we talk about the documentary ‘The Social Dilemma’ and how social media impacts mental health. The film goes into depth on how social media’s design is meant to nurture an addiction, manipulate people and governments, spread conspiracy theories and misinformation. Our featured guest is our long time bestie, Newton! Coming from a design & UX/UI perspective, Newton shares how he thinks the generation is shifting towards positive change when it comes to social media. Oftentimes, all we hear are the negative impacts of social media. In this episode, we discuss the positive impacts that wouldn’t have existed without the advancement of technology and social media. We also share our healthy (and not so healthy) habits when it comes to setting boundaries with social media. Do detoxes work? Tune in to find out!

With the rise of Asian hate crimes and violence against Asian women around the world, it’s time we start talking about the nuances of race and bring more awareness around Asian fetishization. Asian women in the western world are frequently fetishized, seen as commodities, are hypersexualized & stereotyped to be submissive, obedient, and compliant.

We also have a very special guest with us on this episode, one of our close friends from high school, wrapping up her degree at UBC in sociology, meaning she is very much equipped and can help us navigate today’s topic. In this episode we are diving into the topic of GIRL BOSS. It’s a mainstream phrase so you have definitely seen it everywhere!! “You go boss babes!!” “SHE-E-O” “Manifest your life as a girl boss!!” etc. What feels and seems to be encouraging and motivational, these messages actually have negative connotations and underlying consequences. Similar to our first episode of this season where we talked about Subtle Asian Trais, it all had good intentions when it first came to be. However, things can get nasty and real fast too when you just go along with it and don’t ask any questions…

Probably the most chaotic episode to date. Tune in to hear about Georgia and her roommate, Megan, reminisce on their time at McGill and living in Montreal. From move-in day first year to moving into an apartment together, we cover the two years of living together. Navigating life away from home is tough, there’s a long list of pros and cons, but looking back - University life outside of academics and the people you meet really make up the entire experience. Listen to us talk about getting involved in our undergraduate society (DHNUS), why we always carried around Tupperware, our thoughts on the program, the infamous cooking lab, comparing the East vs West Coast, nightlife in Montreal, and Quebecois slang. We also share juicy roommate stories and rant about messy dorm kitchens and bathrooms… IYKYK. And the big question: would we would ever do it again?

Time to break down diet culture. Even if you’ve never heard of this term, you are probably very familiar with the diet culture environment. You see it online, in conversation with your friends, and especially in Asian family settings. But it’s important to actually understand what it means in order to stop it from potentially taking over your life.

So what makes a man, A MAN? Is it that they NEVER cry? Always getting BUFF at the gym? Showing DOMINANCE through violence? Ahh yes, the world of toxic masculinity. Toxic masculinity has lead us to believe that these stereotypical traits of a man is what makes them “alpha”. In this episode, we interview Arlene’s coworker, Bernie Liu, to get the real scoop on what he REALLY thinks of his own kind. We dive into his honest thoughts on what it’s like being a man and what we can all do to promote healthy masculinity instead.

On this episode we’ll be talking about our current inspirations. Inspiration is that feeling inside you that makes you want to try new things. It gives you hope inside and makes you see the world differently. If it's powerful enough, it can persuade you to do anything. Sometimes the person who inspires you could be a political figure, or a celebrity or even your parents. It could be anybody. Who is the top person that comes to mind?

And just like that, 2020 has come to an end! Today, we’ll be reflecting on the past year, our personal highlights and what we’ve learned from it, and the silver lining of this whole situation. The elephant in the room. The panny and growing through this pandemic. From BLM, starting new programs at school, to MOTHS ... a lot happened this year. I’m sure we’re all hearing the same thing over and over again about how 2020 was rough, and it definitely was an unforgettable year, but I think many of us experienced growth in ways we never expected.

Do you worry that you will be “found out”? Well if so, you might be suffering from imposter syndrome. Impostor syndrome is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their skills, talents or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud". Imposter syndrome has become a term used more and more recently so we thought we would jump on the bandwagon and discuss our personal experiences with this common phenomenon.

When did performative workaholism become a lifestyle? When does “the grind” and the importance of “securing the bag” become too much? In this episode, we discuss the ~many~ dangers of hustle culture and tips on getting out of it. You see this all over IG; “rise and grind,” “hustle harder,” and “don’t stop when you’re tired, stop when you’re done.” Comparison & capitalism: the roots of all evil and why they are thieves of joy. We are much more than our productivity levels, careers and education. Learn to slow down and ~romanticize~ your life 🤍
