Welcome to unlikely leadership. This is Audrey and today's topic is micro-aggression and micro-expression. Everyone can agree that micro-aggressions are debilitating. Therefore, it would be safe to assert that in a positive context the exact opposite would apply. Small doses of positive input must have a highly rewarding outcome over time. If you are overworked, fatigued, and extremely goal-driven, this episode is for you. Please stay tuned after the guest discussion for skill highlights.

Welcome to the unlikely leadership podcast with Audrey. And today is a special part one of a two part episode on a very powerful, timely and urgent dialogue of practices for us to be engaged in as leaders, which is trauma in leadership. How does trauma, historical trauma, recent family trauma, recent incident trauma, racial trauma, affect who we're being as we lead, and not just who we're being, but the outcome, the limits the patterns, the perpetual nature? Imagine, if a collective of us a critical mass of US leaders in all industries, touching 1000s upon hundreds of 1000s upon millions of lives, took on healing, what would be possible in that outcome? Resmaa Menakem is a healer, author, master coach and trauma specialist. He helps people communities and organizations heal from and build resilience around historical and racialized trauma through body centered psychology. He is a best selling author, a New York Times bestselling author of several books, including my grandmother's hands racialized trauma and the pathway to mending our hearts and our bodies, a deep exploration of how trauma affects us all. It combines theory and analysis with practical strategies for healing ourselves. Now, what you're going to hear and find is that the ability to metabolize trauma that is located store sickly in our bodies, is not a big aha moment. It is actually small practices over time, almost like siphoning out something I would imagine, right? So, grab a journal or a notebook, lean back, open your mind and your body for this two part conversation. Please stay tuned after the guest discussion for skill highlights. www.AmplifyVoices.io About Our Guest In addition to his work as a writer and therapist, Resmaa focuses his expertise on coaching other leaders to learn this embodied approach, including police chiefs, nonprofit executives, CEOs, athletic directors and managers, government leaders and many more. “While we see anger and violence in the streets of our country, the real battlefield is inside our bodies,” he says. “If we are to survive as a country, it is inside our bodies where this conflict needs to be resolved.”

Gratitude isn't a passive word or a kind affirmation. It is a space, A healing space. While many of us can comprehend the practice and the application of gratitude in our personal lives, or in our well-being journey, there is an extraordinary opportunity to bring gratitude to your profession. And to your leadership. And what you will find is limitless, but most importantly a greater depth and a direct line to your human potential.
Welcome to unlikely leadership and today we're going to be talking to Omari Salisbury the self proclaimed black Forrest Gump. What? What does that even mean? Listen, there's an article that came out this year. And I'm just going to take in a paragraph from it as an introduction because his actual bio is so long and involves such a beautiful, fascinating, inspiring windy road. It's best served up to you from his own voice, which he shares about in this podcast episode he's the CEO of Converge Media. But, over the past 15 months, he has stubbornly planted himself at the head of protests in during showers of pepper spray and deafening blast balls, interrogated public officials with admirable persistence, bird dog developments across many beats, from gun violence to homelessness to grassroots COVID relief, and generally amplified stories about Seattle's black community he thinks should get more play from other news organizations, all while running his small business. My conversation was just so inspiring just to hear someone just dig down deep in their heart, their gut, their soul, their internal brain trust and just be someone exposed be someone who is surrendered to the direction that the universe is pulling them, and that is their expression of leadership in its boldest form, and in his humblest form. So let's get in and talk to him. Please stay tuned after the guest discussion for skill highlights. www.AmplifyVoices.io About our guest: Omari Salisbury is a multi-talented media professional and the driving force behind Converge Media. The “Global Citizen”, Salisbury has travelled to 60 countries and brings a broad perspective and unrivaled dedication to his team.
Nile Evans decided to pursue his longtime career goal of becoming a television writer/producer after attending Menlo College in Atherton, California in 1995. He called on a valuable resource within his family, Executive Producer Bentley Kyle Evans, who hired him as a production assistant. Soon after, Bentley took him under his wing as a writers’ apprentice on the hit television series, The Jamie Foxx Show. In the show’s third season, Nile’s knack for comedy was proven when he was asked to join the writing staff as an on-set punch-up writer. In between seasons, Nile worked with writing crews for various A-list comedians including Jamie Foxx, Martin Lawrence, and then rising star Nick Cannon. Nile’s relationship with Nick led him to help Nick develop his first talk show pilot for Nickelodeon. In 2004, the duo penned a film together that sold to Overbrook Entertainment. Their creative synergy solidified as Nile worked with Nick to produce the pilot for MTV’s Wild’n Out. The hit series helped launch the careers of Taran Killam and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live), as well as comedy and film stars Katt Williams and Kevin Hart. Nile and Nick have continued to work together co-writing the TV movie The Wonder Girls (Nickelodeon), which rated phenomenally, and most recently, the film School Dance (Lionsgate). In 2007, Nile helped develop a spinoff sketch show called Short Circuitz for MTV, and a pilot for reality-producing giant 51 Minds. Nile parlayed his relationship with the production company to produce his own reality series starring music artist Ray-J, For The Love of Ray-J. Since then, Nile has served as writer/producer on Love That Girl (TV One), Family Time (Bounce TV), In The Cut (Bounce TV), and Mind of a Man (GSN).Beats by Dre tapped Nile to write for their Beats Pill campaign in 2013, where he developed new ways for the company to launch their advertising cartoon mascots. Yearly, Nile serves as presenter and host writer for the BET Awards and BET Hip Hop Awards, writing for talents such as Sam Jackson, Chris Tucker, Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, Snoop Dogg, and Chris Rock. Nile has continued to develop his relationship with MTV, extending himself to their sister network, MTV2, where he worked as Supervising Producer on Hip Hop Squares, and currently heads Wild’n Out as the executive producer/showrunner. In this episode, we're going to look at leaders who've taken on their own survival as an access to leading others and making a difference. It's a powerful conversation. You can find his bio in the description and on our website. Please stay tuned after the guest discussion for skill highlights. www.AmplifyVoices.io About our guest: CDR Crosby is the founder and CEO of Veterans Prostate Cancer Awareness (VPCa). The 501(c)3 non-profit organization was formed in 2016 when Crosby recognized a need to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer incidence among Veterans and improve education and assistance to those diagnosed with the disease. VPCa was formed to educate Veterans and Active-Duty military populations on the need to screen for prostate cancer, provide resources to aid men in their treatment decisions, and promote the newest technology for the treatment and cure of prostate cancer. There are over 500,000 Veterans in the national Veterans Healthcare Administration (VHA) and over 16,000 of those men dealing with a metastatic form of the disease. With over 15,000 new diagnosis each year the need to educate men on how to screen for the disease is a critical undertaking. Crosby is also the CEO of Green Life Can Corp, a Canadian Holding company, with investments in innovative 100% biodegradable plant-based chemicals that provide better performance and safer solutions than existing hazardous industrial chemical products. Green Life also owns Revitalize Energy Inc. a junior oil and gas company, implementing the bio-based technologies in the production and cleanup of petroleum. Crosby graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1983 and after earning his wings as a Naval Aviator served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1983 to September 1997. During his active service, he was assigned to VF-101, VF-41, VX-4, and VF-142. He then transitioned to the US Navy Reserves and was assigned to VF-301 in San Diego until 1999 when he was selected as Commanding Officer of Mobile Operations Command Center Western Pacific, based at Pt. Mugu, CA. In 2002, because of the events of 9/11, CDR Crosby was recalled to active duty in the Naval Reserves and assigned to U.S. Central Command where he served as the Chief of Counter Proliferation and directed operations in support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” Because of his efforts, CDR Crosby was awarded the “Joint Force Commendation” medal for organizing and leading a multi-national team in conducting counter-proliferation operations. Upon his departure from active duty in 2004, Crosby formed Aria International Holding Inc. and immediately deployed back to Iraq in support of the US Marine Corps. Aria recruited a group of international experts providing specialized engineering and surveillance infrastructure solutions. During operations in Iraq, Crosby led Aria’s further expansion through similar offerings to clients such as the United Arab Emirates Air Force, Kuwait Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Interior of India, and the Royal Thai Army. Aria was responsible for designing and managing the construction of defensive security structures around air bases and along many sections of borders for clients. Crosby holds a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science. He is a graduate of the US Navy Fighter Weapons School “TOPGUN” in San Diego, California, as well as the Allied Air Forces Central Europe “Tactical Leadership Program” in Germany.
