To abide in Jesus by spending time alone with him and obeying his commands.
Christians have an advocate, the Holy Spirit, who lives within us so that we might learn truth and obey God’s commands.

Session 1: Christ Prepares His Disciples

To practice the truths Jesus teaches, specifically in lovingly serving others in the way that Jesus serves us.
Session 4: Starting the Journey Together.
This week we’re going to look at how we can keep living out the freedom that Jesus offers us. We will explore how we can ensure that sharing and breaking our cycles is not a one-time experience and is instead a first step into deeper relationships.
This week we’re going to study what scripture saysabout our crazy-making cycles, what they look like, and the solution that God has been offering us all along.
This week, we’re going to hear someone’s story with their crazy-making cycles. They will talk about where their cycles came from, how they tried to manage them, and how Jesus met them in their pain. Stories are helpful. Jesus taught us through stories because he knew that they would help us access truth in a different way than a list of instructions.
Welcome to Crazy-Making! We’re excited for this group to start exploring what crazy-making cycles are, what they look like in our lives, and how to step into the freedom and joy Jesus offers us within them. All of us have these cycles, and we all have unique stories about how our cycles started. Even if two cycles look the same on the surface, our personal history with them is different.
These conversations take courage, and we are proud of your bravery to start. This first week, we’ll start by explaining these cycles, how we’ve experienced them in our own lives, and how these cycles are a universal experience.
Session 1: Technology
Main Idea: Our relationship with technology can be both helpful or hurtful and must be managed so we can live spiritually healthy lives.
Head Change: To recognize any unhealthy connections we have to technology and our smartphones.
Heart Change: To feel less distracted by our technology and more eager to cultivate relationships with God and others.
Life Change: To manage our daily usage of technology so that we can spend more quality time with God and our family.
Session 5: Narcissism
Main Idea: When we reject narcissism and focus our lives on God and others, we will find blessing and fulfillment.
Head Change: To know building a kingdom for ourselves will lead to emptiness.
Heart Change: To feel less inclined to create a name for ourselves and our own glory and more inclined to exalt the glory of God.
Life Change: To be more concerned with God’s validation than the world’s validation.
SESSION GOALS

Main Idea: We cannot avoid conflict, but can honor God and love others through the way we engage in conflict.
Head Change: To know that conflict is not bad and can be handled in positive, healthy ways.
Heart Change: To feel compelled to treat everyone with love, honesty, and dignity, especially in conflict.
Life Change: To learn how to confront hard situations instead of fleeing from them or lashing out.
SESSION 3: MONEY
Main Idea: Money and possessions are good gifts but bad gods and should be used to help others and glorify God.
Head Change: To know how to be a good steward of our money and re-evaluate our relationship with our belongings.
SESSION 2: RELIGION
Main Idea: The church is an essential part of our lives and each of us should be involved with God’s people.
Head Change: To understand why we need the institution of the church as well as a personal relationship with Jesus.
Heart Change: To feel connected to and comfortable with church affiliation.
Life Change: To contribute to our community by thriving within our churches.
Main Idea: Our relationship with technology can be both helpful or hurtful and must be managed so we can live spiritually healthy lives.
Take a look at Ephesians 5:8–14. There’s a strong emphasis on darkness and light, and Paul uses some fascinating phrases. In verse 8, he says, “You were darkness” and “you are light.” Not in darkness or light, but are.

Session 7: Psalm 119:121–136
Have you ever been so excited about something that you couldn’t resist telling someone about it right away?(an acceptance letter for college, a positive pregnancy test, a clear medical examination, etc.)
What caused your excitement? How did it feel to share it with someone else?
In today’s session, we’re going to take a look at David’s desire to see the lost world around him embrace the Lord. Having come to know God, David longs for others to know that good news. We’ll spend our time today talking about how God’s grace is not meant to stop with us, but He intends for it to overflow from our lives to influence those around us.
Session 5: Psalm 119:65–96
What experience have you had with surgery? What was the purpose of the surgery?
How long was your recovery?
In what ways did the surgery benefit you in the long term?
Surgery always requires a doctor to inflict harm in order to create long-term health. Yet, the doctor is not considered cruel. Rather, he or she is committed to removing what would ultimately threaten the livelihood of a patient. God acts in much the same way in our lives, as we’ll see in today’s session.
Session 4: Psalm 119:49–64
Describe a time when you found the courage to face something difficult or scary because of the assurance of someone with you (a parent teaching you to swim, helping you ride a bike, learning to drive, etc.).
Why did you believe in their assurance? What made them trustworthy to you?
How did their encouragement give you the courage to take that risk?
Throughout life, there will be times when we will face difficulty. During those seasons, it may even be difficult to see God in the midst of the pain. When those times come, we can find great comfort in the assured promises of God, which is where we want to focus our time today.
Session 3: Psalm 119:33–48
What is something that you’ve been responsible for growing in your life?(plant, company, physical strength, etc.)
What did you do to contribute to the growth? What else was required to accomplish the growth?
In every situation, we require more than ourselves for growth. For a company to grow, it needs strong leadership, but also buy-in from employees. Plants need people to water them, but they also need good soil for seeding. Physical strength requires personal discipline, but also guidance from the outside on best practices for growing strong. The same is true for our spiritual life. To grow into maturity, we need God to meet us in our need, which is what we’re going to see in our session today.

During those times God seems distant, his Word feels dry, and the vibrant intimacy we knew before seems absent leaving us wondering, “Where is the Lord in this?” In Psalm 119, Matt Chandler aims to introduce viewers to the words of King David who experienced similar seasons of life. Serving as the anchor for the study, Psalm 119 demonstrates the power of God’s Word in the lives of believers and its ability to provide a warm blanket for the soul.

3 Areas where intimacy can grow: This is absolutely Critical to know God.
- Crisis - A situation you can’t fix, one where we have to totally rely on God to handle. 2 Cor. 1:8-10 - “Trust not in ourselves, but instead trust in God.
God will allow us to be put in desperate situations, to teach us about his Grace, to get to truly know him. His power and his deliverance.
THIS can happen to us EVEN WHEN we are already in the will of God. 2. Power - When we need God to demonstrate his exceedingly abundant power. Eph 3: 19-20 - “Know his Power”
In order to know his power we must pursue intimacy.
Intimacy is truly allowing God to see ALL the rooms in your house. Nothing held back or hidden. 3. Wisdom - The ability to apply biblical truth to your reality. Life is tough and we have so many choices to make, most of which we can only see part of. James 1:5 - Look to me for Wisdom and I will grant it.

Pastor Steve joins Seth today on Live at Lunch. In Galatians 4 we see Paul describe the difference in how God loves us vs how we often see our relationship with him.
When we stop to think about what Paul writes in these verses, the implications are staggering. In this context, the idea of redemption carries with it a negative background on the part of humanity. Christ’s death saved us from imprisonment to the Law, the curse of sin, and enslavement to elemental principles and those who are not gods, but it has also saved us to adoption into the family of God. Jesus came down from heaven and offered up His life as our substitute not merely so that we could become God’s slaves or even His friends, but His children.

Overcoming Anxiety Session 4
Sorry about the audio today, had technical difficulties.
While our churches are not able to gather physically, it should not make us anxious that God will not preserve his church through these turbulent times. Local churches must be intentional to remain connected and get through the pandemic together.
Social distancing is necessary but that doesn’t mean it’s an easy pill to swallow, especially because of the reality of loneliness. Nonetheless, God promises to always be with us and comfort our anxiety about being lonely.
Session 2 of Overcoming Anxiety
The economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic appear bleak and are causing many families to grow anxious and think about self-preservation. God has, however, given us an obligation to put others before ourselves.
Session 1 of Overcoming Anxiety - During the COVID crisis there is much anxiety over control to overcome.
Session 4 in Facing Anxiety. A battle with anxiety should not be a lonely fight, but a fight we can trust we will one day overcome through the power of Jesus and the hope of his return.

By emphasizing the Bible’s truth instead of anxiety’s lies, we can turn our anxious thoughts into fervent prayers.
As we develop the mind of Christ, we're growing in maturity. Once we leave our spirals and our past behind, we replace them with what we're running toward and growing into.
Our comfort zones can be dangerous places to dwell; God urges us out of them, toward connection, intentionality, and gratefulness.
As we are developing the mind of Christ, we'll have a fight on our hands. But God gives us a weapon for every attack of enemy.
The mind of Christ is available to us. We just have to choose the direction of our thoughts. Today we look at how we can interrupt the spirals in our minds by making the shift up, toward God.
