Eek! We have just taken a huge leap of faith! It’s been scary and exciting and a rollercoaster of emotions all at the same time. This is the first time we're sharing about what's happened over the past month (I cannot believe how much has already changed in just a month) and I'm so thankful to God for all the things He's taught me since. In this episode I give you a little update on the current situation, what led us to take the leap and what we’ve learnt since. Some of our lessons have been in hindsight and some of them are ongoing, but either way the biggest thing we’ve learnt is that God is so kind and cares so much about our deepest dreams and desires … even more than we do! He knows what’s buried deep in our hearts and it brings a smile to His face to see us step out and trust in Him in order to get there. So I want to encourage you through this episode to think about those things that you deeply desire and dream about. Look for where God might be leading you to pursue them. And then take the leap! You will learn so much and, although it’s scary, your life will be the richer for it!

Burn out is unfortunately something that most of us are familiar with. This episode is about exploring exactly what leads to burn out and so that we  can get to the root of the issue and start fresh in a way prevents us from burning out again.

Burn out is more than just getting tired, stressed or feeling anxious about the day ahead of us. It is what happens when our emotional tank runs dry and we no longer have the emotional energy to cope with the demands upon us. Establishing healthy boundaries is crucial to preventing burnout in the future. It's also incredibly beneficial to identify where we are truly getting our value from in order to break away from those things and give our selves a fighting chance to have our mind renewed and strengthen in Christ - the true source of our identify.

I pray that this episode leaves you feeling empowered to make the changes you need to make in order to be powerful over your own life and prevent future burn out.

There have been many points throughout this past season that I have felt confused and unsure of what on earth is going on in the world and specifically in the Church. So recently I made a list of all the things God has said to me over this past season so that I had a birds eye view of what He’s been doing on me and it brought me so much hope and encouragement. In this episode I am sharing that list with you along with the list of things God has led me to repent from - as I believe repentance is a huge part of this season! I also spend a bit of time discussing our relationship with non-spiritual practices in the Church, why I believe we have latched onto them, how we can unpatch ourselves and how we can have compassion on others and gain understanding.

Sam and I have found that pretty much 100% of the issues we face on an emotional level can be traced back to the roots of our family rules. So in this episode we discuss what family rules are, where they comes from, how the impact us individually, how they effect our marriage and the opportunity we have to grow because of them. Understanding the impact our family relationships have on us crucial to understanding the tensions we face in marriage. We pray this episode brings awareness and empowers you to look inward, take ownership and support your spouse where you can.

In this episode Sam and I recount - in all honesty and hilarity - our story from friendship to ministry to dating to moving across the world to then very quickly getting engaged and married. In and of all of that, we lived together before we were married which was never the plan and then lived with parents after being married for two years. We moved around a lot while we were in Australia as well and became very burnt out by all of the changes in our lives. We had some very pivotal learning experiences and emotional breakthroughs both with each other and with family. We also chat about how quickly we got engaged and married - in the space of under three months - and why that was. Our overall takeaway from our own journey is that marriage is a relationship that brings up so many things from under the surface for us to have an opportunity to heal from. So we pray this encourages you!

Thank you for joining me for this first episode of Brides & Wives. This podcast is all about helping young brides-to-be, wives and members of the Bride of Christ live real, healthy, intimate and sustainable lives. In this episode I talk about why it is important to have a healthy marriage in the first place! Healthy marriages illustrate and help us to understand, through experience, what is means for the Bride of Christ to be healthy. Healthy marriages do not complete us but they do show us where we are incomplete and provide a safe space for us to see our own dysfunctions so that we can seek healing from Jesus. A healthy marriage also seeps out into our family lives - even if we don’t have children yet. Don’t underestimate the power that your healthy marriage can have, even as newlyweds in your early 20’s, on your parents, siblings, cousins, aunties, uncles and grandparents.
