This is a podcast for the local pet business owner. Get foundational business tips mixed with the latest secrets of what’s working now, especially in this challenging world. Hear honest conversations from industry peers working the streets of Main Street, where dog business is BIG business. So, if you’re a pet supply store, grooming salon, dog daycare, boarding facility, pet sitter or dog trainer - we welcome you! What really sets this show apart from others in this space is that your show host, Candace D’Agnolo, the CEO & Founder of Pet Boss Nation® - has started, scaled and sold successful pet businesses in almost every niche of the pet industry. Not only that, but her business had multiple locations, a team of 30 people, and annual revenue hitting multiple 7 figures. What this means for you is that you’ll get a holistic approach from someone who’s been on your biz journey from start to finish. Intrigued? Press play.
In July, the Pet Boss Nation® team wrapped up a wildly successful training week known as Pet Business Bootcamp– where we brought together over 700 participants in the pet industry to do a deep dive into marketing their businesses!
If you want access to ALL of the replays from that week, you’d have to join us in the Pet Boss Club® (and you might just get the chance… if you listen throughout the month of August!)
For now, we wanted to bring you a highlight reel– which was really tough to narrow down because we covered SO much amazing information throughout the week! This fourth and FINAL highlight is all about creating a WOW-factor experience that keeps your customers coming back again and again! You’ll learn:
✨ Part of our Rapid Retention Roadmap, a critical piece in your customer retention plan.
✨ TWELVE (yes, twelve) different ways you can surprise and delight your customers to make their experience with you memorable. ✨ Why retention is so important, and what will always keep you top of mind to your customers (and help with word of mouth!)

Running a business is doable… but it is NOT easy.
And unlike many more traditional jobs, you can’t just “leave work at work.”
It follows you home, it intersects with your personal life, and some days, you might even go as far as to question why you chose it.
That is normal! Running your business is probably harder than you ever imagined it could be, but that’s why it is so important to have the right support.
Even on your hardest days, I want you to remember– this isn’t Mission Impossible.
Business owners are a breed ALL their own, and YOU possess the ability to make your dreams come true!
In this episode, we’re hitting reset on your MINDSET, which is something you definitely have to get in order to be able to handle everything business ownership throws your way.
Today we’re talking about the three Mindset MUST-Have’s for business owners. These three qualities will help you:
✨ Conquer any and EVERY setback in your business. Learn how to dismiss negativity, keep excuses from creeping in, and handle the hard things like a Boss.
✨ Keep learning and improving. Be open to the unknown… because you never know where it’ll take you.
✨ Evaluate risks. Because you want to be smart, but you also want to know when “taking a leap” is worth it.
I want you to get really honest about your mindset and your choices. If you stay in a negative mindset cycle… how will it affect your business?
We’ll figure it all out together, so tune in!

Business owners make mistakes– and Candace made them once too.
Making those mistakes and turning them around to become WINS is what led her to become a business coach in the first place.
It wasn’t until she invested in her own professional development and hired business coaches that she was able to turn her businesses around and eventually name her price in selling them.
So…
What is a business coach?
Do you need one?
In this episode, Candace talks about:
🐾 Her road to business coaching and why investing in it made the biggest difference in her business and life.
🐾 Why not ALL business coaches are created equal– and how to find the right one for you.
🐾 How a business coach can open your eyes to the mistakes you could be making– your pricing, your hiring, your cash flow, and more.
🐾 How you might be too close to see your business in focus, and why an outside, unbiased opinion could be your game changer.
🐾 And SO much more about business coaching!
There was once SO much that Candace had to learn, and she didn’t even realize it. Is that you? Discover if business coaching could take your pet business dreams from troubled waters to smooth sailing!

You’re leaving money on the table, Pet Boss. 💸
So, where is the snag in your sales process?
Or… do you even have an official sales process?
A recent Pet Boss Nation® survey showed us that one of the biggest struggles of small business owners in the pet industry is finding more customers.
But once you find the customers, you have to make sure they buy from you too!
In the last two episodes, we talked about how you’re going to put your business on center stage through your marketing.
In this episode, we’re talking about CONVERSION– turning those lookers into raving fan buyers.
Conversion is a BIG concept, but within this episode, we’ll break it down into the KEY things you need to think about, like:
🐾 Your customer experience. Put yourself in your customers’ shoes. Do you make it easy and convenient for them to buy from you?
🐾 Your sales process. Now that your customers are looking, calling, and walking through your door… what are you doing to actually offer the sale?
🐾 Your value. Is your pricing on point? Is your customer clear on how they’ll benefit from what you’re offering?
So put on your customer goggles, Pet Boss. Let’s take a look at your business through their eyes and see what might be stopping you from scoring the sale!

If you build it… the customers will come when you FIND them.
Wouldn’t it be nice if finding customers to buy from your business was just an “if you build it, they will come” scenario?
It’s not the case, and you’re not alone if you’re in need of more people buying from you to reach the business goals you have in mind!
The more eyes you have on your business, whether in person, online, or elsewhere, the more traffic you create…. And then the more customers you bring in and turn into raving loyal fans.
It’s traffic, conversion, and retention… and it all plays a part in making more money in your pet business! Luckily, this episode marks the start of a deep dive into all three!
Today’s episode focuses on TRAFFIC. Candace walks you through:
🐾 What traffic actually is– because there are more ways to be seen than you’re probably thinking!
🐾 Two major rules to keep in mind for your business– to get seen AND stand out.
🐾 The results you can expect when you start consistently feeding your marketing funnel with potential buyers.
🐾 The 3 by 10 rule– a 20-minute exercise that’ll leave you with 30 days of content ideas for your business!
🐾 How to STOP hiding in your business and find the confidence to market yourself. You are not annoying your audience!
It all starts at the top of the funnel, Pet Boss! Dive into this episode before we release the next two that will tackle conversion AND retention. Once you nail down these three things in your business, you’ll be truly unstoppable.

Are you battling the same problem many pet business owners are facing– how to find more customers?
A recent Pet Boss Nation® survey showed us that this is still one of the top problems that pet business owners are facing, and while you might think you can just spend more on marketing to fix this issue, you’ll quickly realize–
Marketing is SO vast. Where should you spend your hard-earned money? And how much of it should you spend?
More customers = more money in your pocket, business growth, and pushing you toward the business you’ve always dreamed of.
So you have to find the perfect mix of marketing strategies to meet your specific goals!
In today’s episode, Candace explains:
🐾 The five marketing monsters you MUST face to find the customers who want to hear from you.
🐾 How to not only find the customers– but KEEP them coming back. Plus, how to get your current customers to spend more money with you!
🐾 What your marketing funnel looks like, and how to keep feeding the funnel and always have new potential customers coming your way.
🐾 Your homework for the next 30 days (it’s easy, we promise! It’ll get you into a consistent groove, and consistency is KEY.)
🐾 And so much more!
In the next three episodes, Candace is going to take the concepts she explains here and break them down even further so that you can stop hiding inside of your business and attract more of your raving fan customers.

Owning a pet business is exciting, but also scary. It’s thrilling, but also exhausting! It’s completely worth it, but can be completely overwhelming…
Do you see where we’re going with this?
In this episode, Candace talks about what she needed in her pet business ownership days– a community to support her, mentors to guide her, and resources to help her market her business and thrive.
Those things just simply did not exist within the pet industry, so she had to fight her way to scaling and eventually selling 7-figure pet businesses on her own. And she DID. And then…
She created the Pet Boss Club™️ so that other pet industry professionals would have access to the EXACT tools that would’ve helped her succeed faster.
Listen to this episode for:
You do not have to feel isolated and stuck in your business, Pet Boss™️. You can see success faster when we work together!

In this episode, I help you shift your mindset about competition and open your eyes to the unlimited potential for your business.
We’ll go on a journey together from a place of scarcity to a place of abundance where you’ll see there is enough business to go around for everyone. Along the way, we’ll crunch some numbers to understand the true size of your market and who is your real competitor. Then we’ll talk about the reasons why community over competition is important, ways you can handle bad energy and attitude when it happens, and how you can connect and coexist with your competitors.
By the end of this episode, you’ll understand that competition is actually really good for your business and how we are better together as a community and not alone as individuals. Because this business thing is hard and worrying about what other people are doing limits you from your full potential.
Everyone needs to listen to this episode, and we hope you share it with your competition!

Did you know that Morgan Stanley predicts that pet industry sales will grow to $275 billion by 2030? And that the pet industry just recently exceeded the $100 billion mark?

🚨Hot topic alert! 🚨
At Pet Boss Nation®, we’ve been having conversations like this one a lot recently, so we wanted to bring it to the podcast in case anyone else out there in the pet industry is struggling with this…
Doodle grooms!
As doodles are becoming more and more popular… matted doodles are becoming more and more common for groomers. And when groomers are forced to shave a doodle down shorter than the owner expects, it can lead to some tough conversations and an upset customer.
Even if you’re not a groomer, and you don’t own a grooming salon, you’ve probably run into a difficult situation with a customer in general, and the tips in this episode will help you too!
The five tips in this episode all point back to one main idea:
Being proactive vs. reactive.
They can easily be applied to countless different scenarios in the pet industry, and they’ll certainly save you some future headaches (and maybe an iffy Yelp review, because as we all know, an upset customer goes straight to the internet.)
Groomer or not, you’ll love these actionable takeaways, so listen in! 🐩

Stop. Pause. Be grateful. Shift your mindset. You are doing a phenomenal job, Pet Boss.
On today’s podcast episode, we’re kicking off November, a month that reminds us to be thankful, with a training exercise that will put all of the positive things in your life front and center in your mind, where they belong.
When you make space for what you “get to do” every day versus what you “have to do” every day, your view changes, your focus increases, and your mindset shifts to a place of abundance.
For example, as we celebrate our 50th episode of this podcast (🥳🥳🥳), we are reminded that we get to connect with, encourage, and serve our listeners every week by producing these podcast episodes.
It’s not just another chore on our list. It’s an honor!
So let’s take a few minutes to reflect. Grab a pen and some post-it notes (or scrap paper or the notes app on your phone), and let’s walk through an exercise that will leave you feeling more grateful, more inspired, and more motivated to keep on doing the fantastic things you’re already doing.
Watch what great things can happen when your attitude is overflowing with gratitude!

Would you feel comfortable stepping away from your business for a week? How about a month? Three months?
If you haven’t heard the amazing news yet, here it is–
Baby Pet Boss is coming in February 2023!!
Our CEO, Candace, her husband, Joey, and their three fur kids, Clover, Dory & Dante are ready to welcome their first baby, and it’s a BOY!
A baby on the way means that over the next few months, Candace will be preparing herself and the Pet Boss Nation team for her maternity leave. But how does one step away from their business for an extended period of time?
No matter the reason– unexpected illness, needing a long vacation, maternity leave, or something else, finding ways that you can actually remove yourself from your business if needed is a GOOD thing.
On today’s episode, Candace called in a pet industry professional who is on her maternity leave right now– Kaila Piepkow, the CEO and founder of the creative design studio, Dox Design.
Kaila and Candace dive into:
☑️ How Kaila nailed down the SOPs in her business, and how that prepared her team for her maternity leave.
☑️How Kaila was able to relinquish some control and trust her employees– even as a protective entrepreneur!
☑️What Kaila’s leave actually looks like, and what will be different once she returns to her business.
☑️So much more!
No matter what, being prepared to step away from your pet business and know that things will still run smoothly is something that will benefit you, so don’t miss this episode!
More about our Guest:
Kaila Piepkow is the crazy dog-lady behind Dox Design. She’s a proud mama to three dachshunds (and now one adorable human baby!), lover of all 70’s music, and the OG Swiftie. After college, and a few more traditional jobs, Kaila wanted to take her two favorite things—dogs and design—and create something that nobody had done before. Something big, bold, and most importantly, drool-worthy. And so, Dox Design was born!
Today, she leads her fearless team on a mission to create strong, compelling brands that flaunt her clients’ stand-out qualities in fun and daring ways. Dox Design creates #droolworthy brands and designs for people just like you: the doers, the dreamers and the dog-obsessed.

Were you happy with your sales last month? Do you feel like you did all the right things, but you could’ve done better?
You could be missing one major part of bringing in revenue:
Sales conversations that convert.
We know, we know… sales talk does not come naturally to everyone, but that’s okay!
Even if you love sales conversations (and are good at them), is your team properly trained? Are they engaging with every customer who walks in your door? Are they leaving money on the table by not anticipating the customer’s needs and helping them solve their problems?
Helping people is not being pushy. Sales conversations are not pushy. Those customers walked in your doors, so they’re looking to be helped and spend money.
In this episode you’ll learn:
If you apply the three steps to sales conversations that Candace talks about in this episode, you’ll be rolling in the dough, so listen in!
