In this episode of the Note To Self podcast, we delve into a unique analogy that might just change the way you approach personal growth and philosophy. Imagine treating life like a visit to the dentist – only getting a checkup every six months and not tending to the daily work of brushing your teeth between your appointments. (Gross right?)We explore this concept by drawing wisdom from the ancient philosopher Epictetus. I share insightful passages about keeping your philosophy to yourself, allowing it to grow gradually like a hidden seed. But how does this relate to our modern lives, especially in the age of social media?I reflect on the temptation to share every thought, belief, or idea on platforms like social media. It's easy to like, share, or repost without truly embodying our beliefs. Through engaging anecdotes and thought-provoking questions, we learn the importance of living our philosophy and beliefs, not just talking about them. The episode also brings in insights from Jim Collins' "Good to Great," exploring the difference between looking out the window and pointing fingers versus looking in the mirror and letting philosophy shape us from within. As we circle back to the dentist analogy, you'll discover practical steps to apply these principles to your daily life. It's all about doing the work you're meant to do, akin to brushing your teeth daily, reading, journaling, and meaningful conversations with friends.By the end of this episode, you'll have a fresh perspective on personal growth and philosophy. Are you due for a six-month checkup, or are you diligently brushing and flossing your way to a philosophy that truly embodies your life? Tune in to find out!

In this episode, I dive into the concept of self-leadership and the challenges it presents. John Wooden was once quoted, regarding the topic, "THE MOST DIFFICULT PERSON TO LEAD IS ALWAYS YOURSELF."

In a 2017 Forbes interview, Warren Buffet was asked the question, “What is the best investment you can make?” His response? "ULTIMATELY, THERE’S ONE INVESTMENT THAT SUPERSEDES ALL OTHERS: INVEST IN YOURSELF.”

Throughout the episode, I review five crucial aspects of self-leadership that have helped me in monumental ways. However, the key focus for today's episode is on "Talk it out + Work it out." We discuss the significance of having the right people in your life with whom you can share your thoughts, learning experiences, and challenges. We draw inspiration from Simon Sinek's quote, "THE RIGHT PEOPLE WILL NOT ONLY INSPIRE YOU BUT ALSO CHALLENGE YOU TO BECOME THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF," and Jim Rohn's perspective that "YOU ARE THE AVERAGE OF THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU SPEND THE MOST TIME WITH."

The challenge presented in this episode is for listeners who might not currently have such a person in their life. Finding like-minded individuals with whom you can bounce ideas off and share your thoughts can be a transformative experience. Remember, these people are not your therapist but friends, spouses, or family members who genuinely support your growth.

Please join me as I explore the rewarding, yet challenging, journey of leading yourself. Together, we'll uncover the power of human connection and the significant impact it can have on our personal development. I hope this episode empowers you to take your self-leadership to new heights.

In todays thought-provoking episode, we explore the theme of introspection and personal growth. Inspired by Socrates' timeless words, "The unexamined life is not worth living," we go on a journey of self-reflection and the value it brings to our lives. As we take an audit of our lives, we confront the rewards and fears that come with this process. Unveiling the hidden truths can be intimidating, but it is a necessary step towards understanding ourselves better. Drawing from Aristotle's wisdom, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit," we examine the power of habits in shaping our lives. Good or bad, habits hold the key to revealing our true selves. Armed with this knowledge, we can make choices that drive positive change. Michael Altshuler's quote, "The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot," invites us to reflect on the direction we are steering our lives. With uncertainty in our own paths, I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery. What truly matters to you? Take the audit, muster the courage, and chart the path that aligns with your deepest values. Join me in today's episode as we delve into the art of self-discipline in communication, exploring ways to avoid regrettable words and cultivate a habit of speaking less. Embarking on this path is not without its challenges, but let me warn you upfront—it's a rewarding endeavor. Will you take the plunge and embark on this transformative journey with me?
