While you might catch a nap or a little break for Mother’s Day, you probably know that that is just a bandaid solution when you’re dealing with serious burnout from the hard work of momming.
Here’s the deal: the only way for you to really consistently feel more energy and peace in your days, is for you to take good care of yourself.
The problem is that we’ve been conditioned to believe that self-care means bubble baths and pedicures–which are nice–but they tend to equate self-care with self-indulgence and that’s why a lot of moms immediately think of self-care as selfish.
But self-care literally just means to take care of yourself!
So, In this episode, I’ll be sharing a simple--and completely doable--framework for taking excellent care of yourself–even when time is limited.
You’ll learn the 6 key areas you need to focus on to get a healthier body and a happier, more focused mind.
And how to effectively banish burnout and resentment and approach your days with more enthusiasm, energy, and peace.
To do this, I want to present what I call the SPEEDY Method of self-care.
Essentially, SPEEDY is just an acronym to help you remember the 6 key areas that you need to focus on, in the order that they should be addressed, so that you can be sure that you’re taking really good care of yourself
-The 6 Key areas of SPEEDY are:
In this episode, I briefly go through each of these areas now and how you can fit them into your life.

Uncover the rich meaning behind the Christian belief of the resurrection and the glorified body, as my husband, David Castillo, with his deep theological knowledge, joins me to illuminate what awaits us beyond this life.
We delve into Christ's post-resurrection appearances to envision what our future selves might be like and the profound implications this has for treating our current bodies with reverence and care.
If you're inspired to treat your body better, I invite you to book a free call with me to explore your goals, what's holding you back, and what you can do to reach optimal health of body, mind, and soul. Book your free call here: https://www.athrivingcatholic.com/freecall
Together, we navigate through Easter's central message within our faith, challenging the cultural tendency to spotlight Christmas over the transformative hope the resurrection brings to our everyday existence.
The dialogue doesn't shy away from the challenging concepts of suffering and the dignity of the body within the Catholic faith. We wrestle with the notion that our bodies are more than mere vessels, but rather, sacred components of our spiritual journey.
Drawing from the wisdom of St. Paul and the Catechism, we affirm that our physical struggles can be united with Christ's own pains, offering a redemptive perspective that elevates our understanding of bodily afflictions. This conversation aims to uphold the value of our physical existence and inspire you to see your body as an instrument to glorify God, even amidst the most trying times.
As we contemplate the promise of eternal life, we also examine how ascetic practices like fasting can enrich both our health and spiritual well-being. We explore the intersection of longevity science and spiritual disciplines, contrasting transhumanist aspirations with our anticipation of the resurrection. And for those seeking a holistic approach to wellness, I share how coaching could be a transformative step towards aligning body and soul.

My guest on the show today knows all about it! Here's a brief description in her own words:
" My name is Laura Dominick and I spent over 15 years in what I now call the Cycle of Depletion. I didn’t like it at all, but I didn’t know how to break out of it.
About twice a year the cycle would come to a head. I would start to notice that I was getting overwhelmed with life and not able to change it. Then I would get frustrated and start thinking, okay, even saying things like:
“Why isn’t anyone helping around here?” “Why do I have to do everything myself?” “How come no one will give me a break? Can’t they see I need one?”
Then I’d move into resentment.
“You’re so lucky that you get to go to work! You’re gone for most of the day doing your own thing!” “Why don’t my kids behave like hers do?” “Man, her husband helps around the house a lot more than mine does.” “Sheesh, look at the way her husband takes care of her.”
And so on and so on, until one day I would just explode in anger. I’d yell and scream about how I was done and I’d storm out of the house and leave for a few hours. A few days would pass by with me being silent and all the kids being obedient and it would blow over and the cycle would begin again.
You see, nothing was really changing. I wasn’t learning any new skills to help me out. I wasn’t changing my mindset. I was just waiting for time to pass and my mind to settle down so I could go back to being the “good Christian martyr" (oops, I mean mother) that I was supposed to be.
This went on for far too many years. It was not fun for me, nor was it fun for my family. I was not the happy wife and mother that I wanted to be. "

In this episode, we tackle the vice of "acedia" (aka "the noonday devil") which is basically when we don't do things that we're supposed to be doing at any given moment.
How is procrastination similar to acedia?
Beth defines "procrastination" as doing anything other than what you intend to do during a given time.
How do we avoid "shoulding" all over ourselves, while still growing in the virtues of fortitude and prudence that will enable us to take appropriate action?
The "should" is whatever we use our intellect or reason to set our intentions for each moment or time block.
How can we compare our intentions to what we're doing in each moment?
Beth shares the thoughts that will keep you stuck in procrastination--and the strategies you can use to overcome them.

And while there are a lot of lifestyle changes that I think anyone can focus on that will make a huge positive impact on their mental health–things like getting enough sleep, limiting alcohol and sugar, getting movement, proper nutrition, a deep prayer life–sometimes we can still really benefit from getting professional help in the form of therapy.
But it can be challenging to find a therapist who shares our Catholic worldview and will be respectful of our values–

The Thriving Catholic Entrepreneur's Manifesto:
I am a thriving Catholic Entrepreneur.
I know that my strength comes from the Lord and I rely on him to lead me and guide me in my business and my life. I know that with God all things are possible, and I keep my eyes fixed firmly on Jesus while walking the path that he has set before me. By seeking God and his kingdom first, I know that everything else that I need will fall into place–including the success I most desire for my business.
I recognize that God has equipped me with unique gifts, talents, and abilities in order to do him some definite service in this world. I strive to accomplish this God-given mission at the highest level possible–thus becoming the saint that God has created me to be.
I strategically employ every means at my disposal to increase my capacity for excellence:
I care for and maintain my body like the temple that it is–so that it supports me with energy and good health. I refuse to let myself burnout or become too sick and tired to do my best work.
I use the best principles of productivity, leadership, and mindset training to grow in the skills I need to meet every challenge. I refuse to succumb to stress or let chronic overwhelm hold me back.
I keep my eyes fixed firmly on Jesus while running my best race. I refuse to be a lukewarm disciple.
I strive to grow in virtue, recognizing that anything less than holiness is failure. I reject mediocrity and embrace Christ-centered peak performance as a way of life.
I am a thriving Catholic entrepreneur.

This is the first in a special series of episodes for Catholic Entrepreneurs!
Why did you start your business?
If you’re like most Catholic entrepreneurs that I know, you started your business because you wanted to use your gifts and talents to serve God and others.
You wanted to do something meaningful that would impact the world, your family, and yourself in a profound way.
It was about more than money–it was about mission.
But chances are also good that, like many entrepreneurs, you’ve lost sight of that vision amidst the day-to-day grind of the seemingly never-ending tasks and stresses that come with running a successful business.
You may have even accepted the secular vision for your business that tells you that in order to be “successful” you have to hustle and grind–and thus sacrifice your health, your happiness, and even your relationship with God.
In this episode, I refute some of the lies of "hustle culture" and also outline what you can expect from this series moving forward.

In this episode, I interview Holly McIlwain, who is the "chief cheerleader" of the Brave Woman Project, where she encourages women to do one brave thing every day.
We discuss how brave action can look different based on your circumstances and how knowing yourself is the key to figuring out what your daily brave action should be.
Some days, getting out of bed may be the bravest thing you do.
Some days, it may be having a difficult conversation, turning off your devices and unplugging, or doing any other action that scares you a bit.
We also talk about the importance of knowing your strengths, what boundaries you need in order to perform at your best, and how to charitably and courageously live out your faith in an increasingly secular world.
You can get the books Holly mentioned here:

Podcast: Persistence in Prayer
This episode of the podcast is brought to you by my all-new 5-Day Summer Detox.
A lot of people don’t realize that our bodies store toxins in our fat cells to keep us safe.
When our bodies deal with a constant barrage of toxic chemicals (like they do in our modern environment!) they have an ingenious way of safely wrapping the toxins in fat cells and storing them in our fat tissue so we can keep on living.
It's just one of the fearful and wonderful ways that God has designed our bodies to work.
And it’s pretty great, right? Well...sort of.
The problem is that if our body can't keep up with the demand to clear these toxins through normal detox pathways, then not only do we hold on to the extra fat, but we can feel really crummy too--like constantly feeling like we need a nap.
If you want to feel better, have more energy, and look great in your shorts this Summer, I’d love for you to check out my 5-Day Summer Detox.
This whole-foods detox is a way to honor your body like the temple it is while helping you clear out excess toxins that may be making you exhausted and overweight.

We are literally hormonally different every single day, which means that our body’s needs will vary along with our fluctuating hormones.
This is just the beauty of how God has created a woman’s body to function–and just like we read in Ecclesiastes chapter 3, there really is “a time for everything”!
You can get your free guide to Cycle Mastery here!
In the episode of the podcast, I break down each of the phases of your menstrual cycle and what your body needs to thrive during each phase, so that you can maximize your energy, results, and productivity.
I'll share which foods to eat, what type of diet is best, what kinds of exercise you should do, which work projects to focus on, and more all based on the dominant hormones of your menstrual cycle.
If you have irregular, heavy, or painful periods, or if you've experienced negative effects of fasting or low-carb dieting (like losing your hair) knowing how to give your body exactly what it needs during each phase of your cycle may be exactly what will help you naturally balance your hormones and nourish yourself appropriately.
When you time your lifestyle habits to your hormones, you can maximize the benefits of each stage of your cycle–far from fighting against your body every month, you’ll be working with your natural rhythms!
Imagine having a roadmap that guides you through the ebb and flow of your menstrual cycle, ensuring that you make the most out of every moment.
The Cycle Mastery guide empowers you to unlock your potential and perfectly time your lifestyle habits to your unique cycle.
It's time to take charge of your life and transform the way you approach every decision, every activity, and every opportunity.

Sometimes it can feel like our day is in a bit of a downward spiral and there's not much we can do to improve it...

And as a Catholic, you probably also know that the benefits of fasting go way beyond the merely physical.
As St, Augustine put it:
“Fasting purifies the soul. It lifts up the mind, and it brings the body into subjection to the spirit. It makes the heart contrite and humble, scatters the clouds of desire, puts out the flames of lust, and enkindles the true light of chastity.”
But despite all these benefits of fasting, chances are pretty good that if you’ve ever tried to jump right into it, you might have experienced some not-so-pleasant effects of fasting–
Maybe you felt hangry, weak, shaky, or nauseous–leading you to conclude that fasting just isn’t right for you.
But before you give up on fasting as a tool for your physical and spiritual health, I want to share with you

006 - St. Paul wrote that, "love never ends”...but in my house, it can sometimes feel like its laundry that never ends…
The truth is that homemaking tasks like keeping up with laundry, dishes, and kid messes can be hugely stressful and overwhelming for a lot of women.
But can these necessary tasks also be a path to sanctity?
Is it possible to find peace and even joy in the most mundane duties?
I talk about all this and more in today’s interview with Tessa Weenink–including tips for how you can get your kids to help out (without complaining!) and a strategy you can use today to immediately bring more peace to your home.

What if what you’re really feeling is exhausted and overwhelmed? What if you’re sick and anxious and sad?
In this episode we’ll talk about some common reasons that you might be feeling so bad, but more importantly, I’ll share what you can do to experience a more joyful and peaceful Advent and Christmas this year.
In the show I talk about the power of praying the rosary. Here are a few resources to help you:

In today’s episode, I’ll explain what it means to be time rich vs. time-poor (and spoiler alert: it doesn’t actually have that much to do with how much free time you have)
We’ll also talk about how feeling time rich is directly correlated with happiness.
And of, course, like always, I’ll be sharing some practical tips to help you apply everything we talk about today in your own life.
I have so much more that I could share about time mindset which I just finished presenting last week in my live workshop, Principles of Peaceful Productivity, as part of A Thriving Catholic Quickstart Series.
But its okay if you missed it, because I do plan to make the replays of that workshop available for a short time free of charge, so stay tuned for that.
I’m working on editing and uploading the videos, so I’ll put the link in the show notes here when it’s ready or you could just email me at jessica@athrivingcatholic.com to let me know you’re interested and I’ll make sure to let you know when those replays are available.
