Today we have an awesome podcast with C.R. Celona, known by those who love him as Celona. Or by those who respect his Italian heritage as “Chelona” with lots of big hand gestures.
Celona is one of the founders of the influencer space through his work as an early hire at Vimeo and his help founding of companies like Speakr/twtmob, and Cluster social impact. He’s spent the last 25 years at the intersection of creators, brands, and social media, and is considered by pretty much everyone to be an OG in the business of the creator economy. On the podcast we talk about what the creator economy was like in the beginning during web 1 and how it’s evolved into what it is today and how ownership, or web3, is changing not only creator communities but very nature and mechanics of our relationships in the digital world and the physical world.

In this episode Britt and Matt work through what happened with SVB, what is going on now, and what might be in store for markets and the economy in the near term.
On this episode, the first of The Startups, Pranav Batra (Texas A&M undergrad extraordinare) and Matt interview technology expert, Jay Williams. Jay is an internet OG: he built one of the first internet service providers, Neosoft, and following that co-founded Net Explorer, one of the first Netscape and Java development companies. Since then he has had many successes as CTO and consultant for many of the Global 2000.
Today we are talking about how to think about operational scalability at early stage technology companies. We also wrote about these ideas on our blog - let us know what you think!
In this episode Britt discusses his framework for diversification and how it is different than other diversification models. The general ideal here is that traditional risk management relies on correlations that breakdown when you need them most. In addition, Britt discusses Strategic Partnerships, how they came about, and how they fit into his thinking around business building.
Here is a link to a youtube clip that flips through the slides referenced. The main slide we discuss is the first one - this is the visualization for the Diversification Framework.
Britt Harris recounts some of the most memorable markets environments of his career and dives into topics like what the financial industry could have done better before/during the GFC and how he thinks about bubbles.
