This Lenten season we will spend time in Jesus's teaching on the Sermon on the Mount. These words help us to live a life following the path of Christ.
We can have all the knowledge in the world, but it means nothing unless we live relationally with Jesus Christ.
Last week we looked at the entirety of Scripture tells the story of Jesus, what does it look like when we pick and choose what we want about Jesus and ignore the whole of the story?
Last week we set a definition of who Jesus is. This week we look at the book that tells us about Jesus.
Our first sermon in our High Christology series. - "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer
Our task to to grow in Christlikeness. We do that when we gather together in groups to share in our lives, open God's Word and then put into practice.
It's what we do. To live as a servant of Christ, we reach out and serve others. But it isn't for a reward, it's following an example set to us from Christ.
Worship, it's what we do. We gather together, sing, pray, explore scripture... Why is this important?
It's a new year as we begin 2020 together. Let us join in renewing our covenant to serve God by making disciples and worshipping, serving, and growing.
We have reached the last Sunday of Advent, in 2 days we will gather to celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ. Today we hear from Joseph. What would it be like to be the earthly dad of the Savior of the world?
Peace, that is a word that I think all people strive for. Peace at home, peace in the world, peace in our own lives. Today as we hear from the Shepherd, let us see what kind of peace we receive from our God.
It is so easy to let the Christmas story be the same story we hear year after year, we fail to let our imagination experience what the experience may have been. This week, let's take a look and see what Mary treasured and pondered in her heart about the Christ child.
Hope. It's a word that comes to life during the season of Advent. During the season of Advent, we talk about the coming of the Christ child, we talk about what Christ has done for us, but this year, what if we focused on what Christ continues to do for us?
We have reached our final sermon in our 2019 Stewardship Series. Today is commitment Sunday. As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, we give thanks for the ministry God has entrusted to us. As co-laborers of the faith, we pledge our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness to make disciples for Jesus Christ.
There is a blessing in giving. One of the blessings is that we have the opportunity to help others. What would it look like if we focused on the ministries of tomorrow and reach for helping all that we can, by doing all that we can?
Our District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Ron Henderson brings us this message from Genesis 12: 1-5 and Malachi 3: 8-12
Today we start our stewardship campaign. What better place to start than looking at one of Jesus's great miracles. How can his example help guide us to live a generous life when we share Christ's love with each other and our neighbor. We also remember those in our church family who passed away this past year on this All Saints Sunday.
"The future of the church." That is a false statement, the youth and children we have in our church are a part of the church today. Sometimes we look at ministry TO youth and children, but what if we looked at doing ministry WITH youth and children?
What is one of the church's most significant resources? Our Older Adults. There is a tendency not to listen or care from the younger generation, while older adults can feel like they’ve done their share for the church. How can we continue to listen and learn from those who have gone before us?
What, or maybe a better way to phrase the question, Who is the church? You and me, Those who sit in the seats on Sunday morning, but more importantly, those who serve the community around us during the week. We are encouraged to know that the church is not ours, but Christ’s.
This is one of the most important questions in Scripture. Jesus is with his disciples and asks them, "Who do you say I am?" The disciples give different answers before Peter lands on the correct answer.Over the next four weeks, we are going to look at this question concerning who we are. But first, we must understand who Christ is for us.
Prayer is one of those things that we hear a lot about but maybe the one thing that is easily dismissed in our lives.
Our final stop is in Laodicea, we end with the church that Christ has nothing nice to say about it. Lukewarm, what a tepid state of the church. But again, Christ gives grace and words to the church, that can also be words for us.
We arrive at the second to last church in Revelation. The image we see in this passage is an open door. Not just an open door, but one that will not shut. What a great vision for us. Sometimes we feel like we don’t have enough strength to make it through the next day, but thanks be to God, Christ is the one who opened the door for us and keeps it open so that we may receive his abundant blessings.
Ever hear the phrase finish strong? That is what Jesus is telling the church at Sardis. Sometimes we can easily get started but then grow weary with the task. Thanks be to God we have the table to come to be reminded of Christ great love for us so we can then go out and love others.
Listening to false teaching. That is the rebuke that the church of Thyatira receives. We always must be careful when we start talking about what is false and what isn’t. We must be sure that we are connected to Christ and his word.
As we visit the second church of Revelation, the word that comes to mind is suffering. Wow! Isn’t that what we want to hear on a Sunday morning. But there is freedom in suffering, and that freedom comes from Christ
The Book of Revelation is a difficult book. But within that book, there is a message for us. Over the next seven weeks, we will look at the seven churches that are addressed in chapters two and three: our first stop, Ephesus.
It's Vacation Bible School Celebration Sunday! What a great week we had and now we join together in worship to celebrate!
Mary and Martha, two sisters that have the opportunity to be with Jesus. We always hear that Mary was right, and Martha was wrong, but what if this story is telling us something different?
Rev. Dr. Ouida Lee fills in for Pastor Chris while he is with the youth at the #youth2019 event in Kansas City
We like to make the world more complicated than it really is. Remember the book “All I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten?” Sometimes it’s like that with our faith. We have a tendency to complicate issues of faith, but sometimes we just need to do what Jesus says.
Nathan Presley fills in for Pastor Chris while he is on vacation. He is preaching from Philippians 4:2-9
Today in the 11:00 service, we will confirm three young ladies into the life of Royse City FUMC. It’s a reminder of our call to be in ministry for each other, our community and world. Let us celebrate with our confirmands and reaffirm our commitment to Christ and his Church.
Pastor Chris finishes the series Blindsided this morning with this sermon. If you are in need of help. Contact the Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-8255. Or contact the counseling service at https://www.higherhopescouncling.com
Theologians and philosophers say that of all the deadly sins, pride is the deadliest of all, the root of all evil, and the beginning of sin. Pride is a sin we easily fall into, but how can we guard ourselves against pride?
Irrelevance. It’s something we fight, but we like to hang on to our stuff, the way we have done things, but what if we tried to reach out to share the Gospel in different ways?
We have smart phones that keep us connected to everything around us. But somehow we feel even more disconnected. No wonder we ask, “Is Anyone Out There?”
Compromise is a tool that is used to bring sides together… or is it? There are times that we compromise our identity as those in whom Christ’s dwells in order to put on a different identity.
Pastor Chris kicks off our series "Blindsided" with the first message Fighting Cynicism. Cynicism is something that can quickly grab hold of us. But how do we overcome the negativity of Cynicism? We begin our 7-week series on ways that we can get blindsided by life.
Rev. Dr. Richard Dunagin fills in for Pastor Chris the Sunday after Easter with the message God's Breath.
Pastor Chris brings our Easter Message closing out the Good and Beautiful God Series.Christ is Risen! But what does that mean? When Christ emerged from the empty tomb, that changed everything. When we accept Christ into our lives, our lives our then changed.
We like to pick our version of who God is. And sometimes, we leave out the holiness of God, it’s fun to talk about how God is love, but to fully grasp the goodness of God, we must understand the holiness of God.
We look to gain approval in many different areas of our lives; promotions are based on it, favor with classmates or bosses. So how do we look at our “performance” as we come before God?
As we move closer to the cross, we think about how our salvation comes from the generosity of God.
We live in a world where it gets harder to trust fully. As we continue our way to the cross, we can place our full trust in our Good and Beautiful God
We all have narratives about who God is. This Lenten season, we will look at some of those narratives, practice some soul-training exercise to help us as we make our way to the cross and the empty tomb.
Sometimes it feels like life moves too fast. Maybe the next right step is to stop and take a breath and take your cares to Jesus.
We don’t like quiet, the lack of sound can mean there is nothing going on, but what if we needed silence to hear what God is doing?
Our first sermon in our "The Next Right Thing" series.Life can be complicated, sometimes it’s easy to just get paralyzed with all of the choices we must make. Over the next three weeks, we will look at just doing the next right thing to move forward in faith.
Pastor Chris shares a reminder of our mission and vision as we move forward into a new year.
The final sermon in our Got Questions? series. What are the gifts from God? and Where is God?
In part two of our series we look at the question, what do we do about the Law’s established in the O.T.
Pastor Chris begins 2019 answering questions you have asked Christmas Eve 2018! Today we look at if Pets are in Heaven and what does it mean to be made in the image of God.
The last verse of the hymn invites us to lift our voices in alleluia's to the one who is "King." This descriptor was more radical for the people of Jesus' time as it resisted the powers of empire that threatened "the least of these" that Jesus came to serve. We are reminded by this seemingly benign and sweet song that whenever there is injustice in this world, we are to look to the one whose power is love. How might this increase our hope for the future?
Rev. Dr. Marsha Middleton from the North Texas Conference is our guest preaching this morning.
The shepherds got quite a wake-up call that night when the sky lit up "like a Christmas tree" (so to speak). Awe at the transformative glory of what God can do in our lives is the focus this week. Glories are streaming every day if we only have eyes to see. How would our lives be renewed if we saw the world and our lives through the lens of wonder?
Today we begin the celebration of Advent. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of Silent Night. These precious words have given comfort and peace for many who have sung these words, today as we begin our journey to the manger, these words help us find a sense of peace.
We conclude our series by looking at the story of Abraham taking Isaac up the mountain for the sacrifice. This is a confusing story, but in the end, we see a challenge of love, grace, and provision from God.
Abram becomes Abraham, this sets the course for the people of Israel and for us today. Through our relationship with God, we get a new name. How can we live in that covenant with God?
As we continue to look at the story of Abraham, we see that there are times we are like him. We want to protect ourselves instead of living in the promises God gives us.
Over the next four weeks, we will look at images from Abraham’s story in Genesis. This story is a journey, a journey we all face in our lives, remembering how God calls flawed people into faithfulness.
This Sunday we are going to talk about possibilities…. what can we do when we are given the resources to do ministry. We will look at the example of the Macedonian church as they cheerfully give to fulfill the mission of the young church.
In Matthew 4:17 Jesus announces that the Kingdom of God is here and available now. As stewards of what God has given us, we have the task to use our gifts from God to expand his kingdom here… now.
You have heard the phrase, “Membership has its privileges.” Sometimes we get stuck in the commercial mindset of church… what can the church do for me? How can I receive blessings from the church? But the truth of the matter is we are blessed when we give to others… and through the church that is with our presence, prayers, gifts, service, and witness
One of the most difficult parts of being in community is being real. Letting those around you know the real you. It’s easy to put up a mask and only let out the best you, but God wants all of you, not just the part you feel is best for the world to see.
As we continue to build each other up, there is a tendency to stay quiet and let everyone else do the talking. When that happens, the best part of the conversation is left out. YOU!
Pursuing God, knowing God, understanding God, these are tasks we as humans set out to understand. As we continue in our study of community, how can our work as a community allow us to understand God fully?
Pastor Chris begins the Community series with the message "Show Up." This week we are starting another round of Community Groups, our hope is that you grab a study, gather a group of friends, and then grow together in your relationship with Jesus Christ. Part of the battle is just showing up!
We like to be in control, to know what is going to happen next, but sometimes, our worry gets in the way of our living.
This is just a test to see if the RSS feed is talking to Libsyn. Join us for worship at either 8:30 or 11 am on Sunday morning.
Sometimes it is easy to live by the words, “If it’s going to be done right, I have to do it myself.” But what do we miss when that is our attitude about all of life?
Have you ever had that moment where you really wanted to please someone, but knew you couldn’t? When we become obsessed with what people think of us, we can easily forget what God thinks of us.
The first sermon in our "You Don't Have What It Takes" sermon series.Philippians 3:4-9aWe live in a world where performance is key. We do what we can to build our resumes. But what is it all for?

District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Ron Henderson brings this message as the church votes on the Healthy Church Initiative prescriptions.
First United Methodist Church of Royse city just completed a Healthy Church Initiative Weekend. Our lead consultant Rev. Geroge Fisk gives us the reminder that Fishing = Following.
Giving all you can… It can only happen one way. First, it must be real, full of grace, and made for every good work. When we understand how our giving makes a difference, we then support our work in full.
Sometimes we think of saving as a way to stockpile stuff for the future. But what if we save ourselves in a way that keeps us from living up to God’s mission?
We have the best story to tell in the world. Part of stewardship is finding a way to share that story with others. The scriptures are full of opportunities to share the Love and Grace of Jesus Christ with others and we should do it joyfully.
