American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons
The Augment podcast channel is comprised of AAHKS Young Arthroplasty Group (YAG) members who are in training or less than five years in practice. The Augment provides an in-depth and relevant discussion about timely topics within the total joint arthroplasty subspecialty and interviewing experts in the field on their experience and knowledge.
In this episode of the Augment, hosts Dr. Wolfstadt and Dr. Landy are joined by Dr. Hah and Dr. Khan, anesthesiologist and pain management physicians, to discuss research in perioperative pain specific to total joint arthroplasty. They start with chronic painful total knee patient where the pain can’t be easily identified, potential sources of chronic pain and different modalities to treat them. There is also discussion of when to move from thinking about acute to chronic pain and what the future may hold for chronic pain care.

The program came from their experience in shorter episode-based bundles, and delivers surgical and non-surgical care for a year or as many as five years. The patients’ care in this bundle is managed by physical therapists overseeing all aspects of arthritis care and works on determining whether a patient is in need of surgery or not.
