When we face trials and tribulations, and encounter adversity of every kind, including suffering for doing what is right and pleasing to the Lord, He joins us in the fight. The battle to stand firm, to resist the pressure of hopelessness, helplessness, and anxiety is one we do not face alone. Regardless of the outcomes, we can lean on Him, knowing that God will provide. During adversity, we must recognize that the Lord's primary concern is our character development. This growth cannot be achieved through mere grit and determination; it is refined in the fire, like pure gold. By responding with trust and surrender, we gain clarity—God's clarity. We can then see beyond the immediate struggles and understand that all things are possible because the God of the impossible is with us. He will help us with whatever we are facing. So, dear friends, be encouraged to trust Him, acknowledge Him, and bow down to Him alone—not to your fear, your situation, or your circumstances.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dwana-carl/message

In this final episode, we delve into how individuals respond to the challenges and injustices they face. My husband and I represent two sides of the spectrum—he sees things in black and white and is deeply troubled by how the United States and the church handle the issues faced by young Black men. He believes the church should be more active and not turn a blind eye to those suffering unjustly.

On the other hand, I struggle with facing the painful realities and often find myself avoiding the news. Yet, I am reminded that God calls us to act and make choices aligned with His will. The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death, and we must choose to be on the Lord’s side to enjoy the fruits of the Spirit.

This episode emphasizes the importance of trusting God, seeking His guidance, and recognizing that true character development comes through enduring and overcoming hardships. We are called to act with compassion and care for others, as God prepares us to be His bride. In our discussions, we highlight the necessity of living a life rooted in faith, trusting in God’s direction, and understanding that He equips us with the power to fulfill His will. Let us continue to seek His guidance and remain steadfast in our faith, knowing that He is with us every step of the way.

Trust and Understanding

Proverbs 3:5-6 urges believers to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." This scripture highlights the importance of surrendering to God's wisdom and guidance. It's a call to prioritize divine insight over human reasoning, emphasizing that our limited understanding is not enough to navigate life's complexities.

Isaiah 58 is a powerful chapter that calls for true fasting, not just in abstinence from food, but in actions that reflect God's heart for justice and compassion. It challenges believers to:

  • Loose the chains of injustice
  • Untie the cords of the yoke
  • Set the oppressed free
  • Share food with the hungry
  • Provide shelter for the wanderer
  • Clothe the naked

This chapter underscores that genuine faith is demonstrated through actions that uplift and support others, reflecting God's love and justice.

The church, as the body of Christ, is called to be active and responsive to the needs of the world. The critique of churches being "asleep" or "dead" spiritually suggests a disconnect between professed beliefs and lived actions. The call to "wake up" is a challenge to live out the faith authentically, being the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world.

The sense that we are living in prophetic times, with natural disasters and societal upheaval, can be seen as signs pointing to deeper spiritual realities. While these events might feel overwhelming, they also present opportunities for the church to demonstrate God's love and provision in tangible ways.

The discussion about dealing with rebellious children or individuals who are resistant to change reflects the broader challenge of how believers should respond to those who are struggling. The example of showing mercy, maintaining a posture of love and support, aligns with biblical teachings on grace and forgiveness.

There's a tension between recognizing the prophetic judgment on nations or individuals who turn away from God and the call to show mercy and compassion. While acknowledging the reality of God's judgment, believers are still called to act in love, reflecting God's character even in difficult circumstances.

  • Personal Responsibility: Each believer is responsible for their own actions and how they reflect Christ's love to others. This includes showing kindness, providing support, and being a source of encouragement.
  • Community Action: The church community can mobilize to address larger societal issues, advocating for justice, providing for those in need, and being a beacon of hope.
  • Spiritual Vigilance: Staying spiritually awake and aware, recognizing the signs of the times, and responding with a sense of urgency and purpose.

In summary, the call to trust in God, act justly, and live out the faith authentically is clear. The challenges of the times require a deep reliance on God's wisdom and a commitment to being active agents of His love and justice in the world.

Welcome to part two of our podcast. Today, we're diving deep into the implications of Proverbs 16:28, which says, "A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; a gossip separates the best of friends." Another translation offers, "A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends." These verses highlight the destructive power of gossip, which God explicitly condemns as perverse.

Reflecting on this, I find myself sometimes sharing personal stories about my son. While I justify it as using him as an example, I must admit there are moments of discomfort. I worry about how others might perceive him when he comes out. As a mother, I'm vigilant, especially considering the high incarceration rates among men. Yet, God calls us to avoid gossip. This principle challenges me, reminding us all of the broader scriptural mandate.

In James 5:16, we're instructed, "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." Tony Evans shared an impactful testimony about confessing a past sin to his elders, demonstrating true obedience. But why does God ask us to confess our sins to one another? It’s crucial to meditate on His word and understand His intentions.

Confession isn’t merely about admitting wrongs; it’s about exposing darkness to light. Hidden sins, like untreated wounds, can fester and cause further harm. True healing comes from bringing these issues into the open, allowing us to receive support and prayer from our community.

As leaders, particularly those sharing the Gospel on social media without a traditional church home, accountability is paramount. Many of us may have experienced church hurt, leading us to minister outside traditional structures. Yet, this makes us no less accountable. Whether speaking to a handful or thousands, our influence and responsibility as leaders remain significant.

First Timothy 3 outlines the qualities expected of a church leader: living a life above reproach, exercising self-control, being hospitable, gentle, and managing one's family well. Even those new to faith are cautioned against leadership to prevent pride and potential downfall. This mirrors our earlier discussion from James about confession and accountability.

Leadership in ministry, regardless of the platform, comes with scrutiny. People observe our lives closely, just as we observe others. The calling to leadership, as 1 Timothy 3 emphasizes, is honorable but demands high standards. It's about living transparently and upholding integrity, both publicly and privately.

Returning to the importance of confession and accountability, we realize it's not limited to grand transgressions. Even seemingly minor sins, like tax evasion or dishonest claims, must be confessed. Sin is sin, regardless of perceived severity. Accountability ensures we don't stray from the path of righteousness, providing a check against our human tendencies.

In closing, this podcast serves as a reminder: We are called to a higher standard, particularly as leaders. Embrace accountability, confess your sins, and strive to live a life that honors God in every aspect. Join us next time as we continue to explore living out our faith with integrity and grace.

Eps 1 - Mental Health and Faith - Addressing Misconceptions in ChristianityOur discussion will wander through various paths, not to condemn but to explore and invite understanding.

We'll begin by examining the story of Judas Iscariot. Contrary to the common theological stance that his betrayal was predestined, we propose that Judas had a choice and was not merely a pawn in a divine plan. Referencing insights from scholars like Ralph Wilson, we'll question whether Judas’s actions were influenced by possession or free will, paralleling this with moments where Jesus confronted Satan, such as with Peter.

This episode also touches on a sensitive issue that recently disturbed me—a social media post harshly condemning a Christian artist who allegedly committed suicide. This sparked a reflection on how we, as believers, often jump to conclusions without full knowledge, and how we sometimes misuse our words and judgments.

We’ll discuss the broader implications of free will, love, and choice in faith, emphasizing that condemnation is not ours to give. We'll revisit 1 John 5 to explore what true belief in Jesus Christ entails, contrasting mental assent with heartfelt faith.

Join us as we navigate these challenging conversations, aiming to foster a deeper understanding and compassion within our faith communities.

A Reminder of Humanity and Mental Health"

In this emotional episode, I invite you to join me on a heartfelt journey as I share my experience of visiting my incarcerated son. "Locked in Love" delves into the profound ebb and flow of emotions that come with this challenging situation, aiming to shed light on the lives of those behind bars and the importance of not forgetting them.

As we navigate the correctional system, it becomes evident that our loved ones' mental well-being is intrinsically tied to our own. Through this narrative, we are reminded of the power of connection, compassion, and understanding in fostering mutual encouragement.

While society often tends to overlook or stigmatize the incarcerated, "Locked in Love" humanizes their experiences and reminds us of their inherent worth. By sharing my personal story, I aim to inspire empathy and ignite conversations that challenge preconceptions.

Join me in exploring the complexities of the correctional system, the triumphs and tribulations of a mother's love, and the significance of supporting the mental health of both prisoners and their families. Together, let's uncover the transformative power of compassion and remind ourselves thatno one is beyond redemption.

God wants you to move forward. I am a living witness, after 30 years of carrying the trauma of yesterday,  I finally realized the only thing that stood in the way of restoration, was me. I know all to well what is like to fight through the pain of trauma and get to the other side of it. Listen to the last episode in this series "You are Enough"

Mom you are enough keep going that the message overall consensus.

We leave this series as cheerleaders, routing those parents out their that struggle to accept that they are adequate to do what God has appointed us to do. When we surround ourselves with other like minded people who are willing to cheer us on and cultivate our relationship with our heavenly Father these are the ingredients for successful parenting. No matter the outcomes as partners with God, he will fill in the gaps and so much more.

Part of our continuing series - "From Surviving to Thriving"

In this segment - My mom and I discuss some keys or mindsets that we must put into practice especially when navigating difficult times. In this segment we discuss that there are no barriers, no chains that stand in our way. Whatever and whoever "that" is, its only an excuse. We can and have already overcome, we just have to believe that in our mind, our will and in our emotions.

On this segment of Surviving to Thriving, I turned toward my mother for her thoughts on the matter.

My mother is the oldest of nine children. She is a devoted believer and follower of Jesus Christ. A mighty prayer warrior and a retired nurse.

Now let me prepare you in advance. You will not hear “woe is me.” She is without any doubt “the glass is half full” kind of lady. Even in the worst of circumstances she will always find the silver lining.

We began our discussion on her perspective on life, as she was growing up in the early 50’s and 60’s. As tough as it was, she saw life from a different lens than one would expect to hear.

Romans 8:35-39 NLTCan anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Americans of today would have difficulty understanding the scope of the anguish and despair that permeated much of the society.  There was no Federal Deposit Insurance; those folks who had money in failed banks lost everything.  There was no Social Security, no welfare, no Medicare or Medicaid.

Lasting from 1929 to 1939, the Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in the industrialized world. While no group escaped the economic devastation of the Great Depression, few suffered more than African Americans. Said to be “last hired, first fired,” African Americans were the first to see hours and jobs cut, and they experienced the highest unemployment rate during the 1930s. Since they were already relegated to lower-paying professions, African Americans had less of a financial cushion to fall back on when the economy collapsed.

The conclusion in this series - Rising from the Ash:ReconciliationReconciliation was not just about reconciling with those who I distanced myself from, but reconciling with my spiritual self. I strongly believe that we are made in the image of our creator. He is the ONLY TRUE and LIVING TRIUNE GOD. YES HE IS ONE as we are.  We are spirits, housed by a body and possessed by a soul. In order to achieve ultimate wholeness, all three must be nourished regularly. The body, the soul and the spirit can be HURT and DAMAGED. When that occurs, we have clinicians that can help, to include the living God! He wants to help and HE IS THE HELP.  He often works through people to accomplish what needs to done. (ie doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, therapists, counselors, Pastors, teachers, evangelists and missionary's etc)Isaiah 61:3-4New Living Translation3 To all who mourn in Israel,[a] he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many generations. Please join us as we continue this discussion and many more like it. Part 4 in the series Rising from the Ash "Therapy Begins" Now that I saw my issues for myself. I needed to seek professional help. Similar to seeking medical attention for a severe headache or a broken bone. Though not obvious, to me at least, I had a broken mind. Emotionally torn. The cornerstone of my Christian experience is prayer and bible study. And God has given us even more than that, called the ministry of helps. Our professional community is part of that. We need them. We need doctors, lawyers, police officers and psychiatrists. However, the Christian community has down played mental illness, although many of us suffer silently.  Just as Cancer is Real and serious. Mental illness is as well and should be treated with the same level of compassion. Therapy saved my life. "A place of Healing A place of Hope."Blessings,Oiwuri Malkia (She Encourages)For More find us on Facebook "Oiwuiri-She Encourages, Instagram, "FromtheAshesweRize" and our blog platform "fromtheash.org".Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE!

Part 3 in the series Rising from the AshesOne of the symptoms common among those of us that suffer with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD} is Isolation. It wasn't until I approached my family and asked them about my level of engagement with them, did I realize I was isolating myself.  The most shocking part was that it had gone on for years. Had I not asked I would not have known. Another reason to seek out help.I consciously was not aware that ISOLATION was deeply rooted in my life. Worst than that...The carnage left behind and its effect seemed impossible to recover from.

Part 2 in the series - Rising from the Ashes - The VictimIn this episode I briefly discuss my first hurdle toward healing. No longer could it be about what was done to me. Carrying that burden was far to heavy to carry. Feeling sorry for myself wasn't getting me no where. The question really was about how could I move on with my life in spite of it. Still no easy answer to that question. But recognizing that I had this mentality was a start, simply because I am not victim anymore."A place of Healing A place of Hope."Blessings,Oiwuri Malkia (She Encourages)For More find us on Facebook "Oiwuiri-She Encourages, Instagram, "FromtheAshesweRize" and our blog platform "fromtheash.org".Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE!

Prayer is a simple conversation with Father God. A truthful conversation. Simply pouring ourselves out before a loving Father who cares for us. When we worry about anything, we tell him all about it. Our worries of the day and the next. Our concerns for our family and friends. I chronically worry about everything. But I have discovered the hidden treasure of prayer. Through prayer I have gained healing and restoration. I can finally see life through a different lens.

As a child, my siblings and I loved both versions of the Wizard of Oz. The 1939 version with Judy Garland and the contemporary adaptation with Diana Ross in 1978. We wanted to see the entire show from start to finish.

My favorite part was when they arrived in the Emerald City. This was that place where they hoped the “Great OZ would give them what they all deeply desired. To get there they had to travel down the “Yellow brick road.”

As they sang, skipping and hopping down the road, they often found themselves consumed with thoughts of IF.

If I had belonging

If I had affection

If I had the Ability to love

If I had courage

If I had wisdom.

What they really needed was PEACE.
