This podcast will consist of multiple interviews with amazing adults. The one thing they have in common? They are all my former students. The bond between teacher and student is one of my favorites. I am excited to invite dozens of former students along on this journey as we reconnect and hear some of their best memories! The memories, stories, and laugh will be plenty! I cannot wait to share these interviews!

Season 3 Episode 66
The Drummer's Beat w/ Braden
My guest this episode is a recent 2025 high school graduate named Braden Keith! Folks… when we talk about passion, he exudes it. And his talent and knowledge are beyond the measurables that I originally thought. He is a creative. He is disciplined. And he never shies away from practice, even if hekeeps the rest of the family awake at night. Ep. 66 shall be a classic and will be an inspiration for all who love music. He rocked some trivia questions and had me google searching and downloading songs of some of the most talented percussionists in the world!

Season 3 Episode 63: The Laudable Longhorn Esther Jesse
GRADUATES!!!! Stand Up! Crossing the stage at 16 is crazy work!! But that is what is happening. Do you remember Christian Okoye? Running Back for the Kansas City Chiefs in the early 90s? That dude had the best nickname ever: The Nigerian Nightmare. That is what the competitors of Esther Jesse must call her in the realm of Speech &Debate... because she EATS. The entire state of Texas knows her in that space. The nation is familiar with her in that domain. And she is about to leave some longhorn-sized hoof-prints on the campus of UT Austin this fall. We have been rocking together for the past 2 years and now she is off!
Her big sis was my guest on episode 31 and this is nothing like that episode.
We spoke on everything. And I had to get in my jabs being a die-hard Buckeye fan. Anyways, Austin is getting a great addition.
In this episode we discuss graduation, Austin, Speech & Debate, mentors, and the folks who had her back throughout this journey.

Season 3 Episode 60:
Trig’s Trajectory w/Erica L.
My guest this episode is Erica. I used to call her Trigger, aka Trig for short. Sometimes students earn nicknames and you just ride with them for a bit. Well, I have been riding this one for 15 years now. I used to say she would trigger a new level of anger in me at times, or even her nickname of Michigan would trigger me, naturally because I am an Ohio State fan. But it's all love. We met her senior year in Florida, and she was a solid athlete in Michigan, and then came back down to Florida for a while and finished high school here.
So our journey began in Portable 3 in my Algebra II class and it has morphed into what where we are now. Two adults who serve children in their own capacity. My population is juniors and seniors in high school. Her population is students with autism and she is absolutely phenomenal.
We discuss the privilege athletes have in high school, what happens when you get caught in a big fat lie in my class, choosing adoption as a wonderful option for children, life, marriage, faith and more.

My guest this episode is the lovely Kennedy Kilgore. We meta few years ago in 2021 and she is a 2023 high school graduate. She was a bright-eyed junior making a name for herself, and I was navigating life with about 8 months of experience within the district under my counseling belt. She had dreams of being a Red Raider. For those of you not familiar with this learning institution, I am referring to none other than the Red Raiders ofTexas Tech. Tech is in Lubbock, so approximately 299 miles away from PSHS.
On campus Kennedy is a Dean Student Ambassador within the college of Media and Communications. Ms. Kilgore is also an Advertising major.
Things to note about Texas Tech:
What Makes the Texas Tech Experience Different?
While being assertive and confident about our university,Red Raiders also celebrate Texas Tech's West Texas roots. As the university's first president, Paul W. Horn, said, “Everything that is done on these West Texas Plains ought to be done on a big scale.” You know that slogan, Everything is bigger in TX? This holds up to it.
Tech, as us Texas refer to it, goes out of their way to “embraceour distinct sense of place and our identity, recognizing them as formidable forces that shape tomorrow.” With focuses that lie, “in showcasing the potential and the achievements of our community, fueled by a pioneering spirit.”
So Kennedy is back to chat with her favorite schoolcounselor (my words, not hers 😊) and we are just going to see how life has treated her since she departed Senior 18 or so month ago.

"Today at work…I didn’t have my students make their own scrotums like last year …we got some donated horse testicles, unfroze them, and probably didn’t learn a whole lot but had some great stress relief.
This group really is a blast to teach. At one point I lookedaround and this group of stressed out college students were laughing so hard tears were streaming out of their eyes. This particular group is going to do great things and it’s an honor to teach them.
Another highlight? The testicular scavenger hunt our vet tech program left for me to find the right freezer #sonographersrule #ilovemyjob #sometimesstressreliefcanbeeducationaltoo

I tend to keep random things. In 2006, I kept a letter from my favorite senior that year. I only really knew about 15, but this one was special... 17+ years later and she is still very special.
She was upset. She was annoyed. She was lowkey pissed. With all those emotions and feelings, she wrote a letter to me.

The counselor-student connection is a good one. Aliza thought she had a crystal clear plan after she graduated high school in Plano, TX. Then... she met some extremely influential professors at CCCC! Now, her life is on a completely different trajectory. And I couldn't be more excited for her! My first guest from my COUNSELING alpha! Have a quick listen!

Welcome to another episode of #TalkingBackToTheTeacher
It's #BlackHistoryMonth and to share a bit of #HamHistory, I have to speak about the late Dr. Najee E. Muhammad. When our lives crossed paths, I was a senior at Ohio University. He was teaching a 400 level course on Diversity in Education. I actually was the only senior African American male in the College of Education at the time. So when I was enrolled in his summer course, I was excited to say the least. Class was a trip and his impact helped mold me who I am.
Shout out to Ohio University, my alma mater

And the Blur that we call high school.
These are a few themes of this episode of Talking Back to the Teacher
My guest, Travis, lets us know what its like to have a career of service in the U.S. Air Force
We chop it up from almost 4,000 miles apart and he spills the goods about the Air Force. This is the first episode feature a former student of mine who has chosen a path that consists of the military.
Malyssa joins us for this fun talk and stroll down memory lane. We linked up in Atlanta, Georgia and this past fall. We talked about high school and the lessons that we have learned and carried with us since our time in in Florida. I’ve known this one for more than a dozen years so we have walked through our fair share of experiences together. I mentioned that we ate some great food, grabbed a couple sticks to puff on, and generally had a blast. We also ventured to McDonough for a day and had a blast.
We threw some axes with friends at Axe Country: https://axecountry.com/
Website: axecountry
Instagram: @ axecountry
Also, in terms of the best meal we ate, it was definitely from Fat Boiz Premium Gormet, an amazing local seafood/soul food restaurant.
Instagram: @ _fatboiz
To top things off, we also ventured to a very impressive cigar shop/lounge. Shout out to The Cigar Bank. Owner/Proprietor was actually from the same hometown as my father and knew my family. Check them out online at http://www.thecigarbank.com
This episode begins with a summary of a news article from Rockwall, TX. This city is about 20 miles slightly North and East of Dallas. I tie a story from January 2023 to a #HamHistory story from July of 1996, in my hometown. Punishment or Discipline? You can decide for yourself. But I hope you laugh and see why I felt the need to share this story.
Ok Folks! Welcome to Talking Back to the Teacher Podcast. The only podcast where it is perfectly fine and 100% acceptable to talk back, clap back, and more importantly LAUGH BACK your favorite teacher.
