Bipolar Witch: Recent Episodes

Sister Spiral

Hello, my name is Laura. I have Bipolar 1 and I am a Witch. This podcast is a space for me to share spoken word poetry about my mental illness and spirituality and the connection between the two. It is also a space for me to find my true identity beneath my mind and my beliefs. This is a place for me to find embodiment, peace and acceptance of all aspects of myself. An “Integration Station” so to speak. Thank you for being here to listen as my journey unfolds, and may peace find you on your journey as well. So may it be. I continue reading from my junior year AP English journal. I run into some problematic life outlooks. I was consistently looking forward to “finally finding happiness,” and looking for it through romantic relationships. I also had very ignorant opinions about mental illness, glorifying exercise as a solution. I can see where this pattern of “pushing through” emotional discomfort started developing. Holding myself with lots of love for the things I didn’t know back then. Learning to find happiness within myself. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bipolar-witch/support

I continue reading from my high school journal from my AP English class, where we were reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey. I seem to be grappling with the question as to whether true evil exists or if people are innately “good at heart.” All in all I wish I had been able to talk to other adults about these thoughts rather than be all alone with such deep questions. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bipolar-witch/support

I continue reading my journal from my junior year in high school at age 17. I can see patterns of over-loading my schedule with activities, and looking for love with another to “save me.” I am noticing that while I am able to analyze and rationalize my emotions, I don’t allow myself to really embody or feel them. This is something I am working on now, and I would like to begin writing letters to my past self. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bipolar-witch/support

I begin this episode discussing the phenomenon known as twice-exceptionality (2e), or the co-existence of giftedness and at least one disability. This concept from educational psychology resonates with me and is giving me insight on my high school writing, in which I show signs of a troubled mind. I then continue reading from my journal from age 17. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bipolar-witch/support

In this episode I read from my journal that I kept while living at Grand Canyon National Park. After being hospitalized in Flagstaff, Arizona for psychotic mania, I returned home to my RV with no mental health support systems in place. Instead I turned to art and writing to express myself. It is good to read these words, though I wish I had support during this time in my life rather than being all alone with my thought. Sending love to my past self by sharing her words here now. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bipolar-witch/support
