Welcome to Episode 93 of the Adventures with Grammy Podcast. Today's guest, Tom Long, began performing as the Singing Santa in 1985 when he was 21 years old. He knew that first Christmas he had chosen the right avocation when a curly headed lad with big brown eyes said he wanted to hear Santa say, "Ho. Ho. Ho."
Throughout the years the Magic of Christmas and watching parents light up when their children sit in Santa's lap have fueled Tom's passion for performing as The Singing Santa. An invitation to work with Marie Osmond and an appearance on America's Got Talent added a bit of spice to his role. When he retires from his day job as the general manager of the largest restaurant chain in Virginia, Tom intends to up his Singing Santa productions and hopes to perform with The Rockettes and during the Macy's Parade.
Tom says his career as The Singing Santa would not be possible without the support of his wife. Even his three children help out making the Christmas season truly a family affair for the Long household.
I began our interview by asking Tom to talk about his children and how he incorporates them into his performances.

Welcome to the Adventures with Grammy Podcast. I am your host, Carolyn Berry.
My guest for Episode 73 is Greg Payne, the host of the Cool-Grandpa podcast. At 48, Greg learned he soon would become a grandfather. He felt a bit panicky. He didn’t know a thing about being a grandfather, so he asked questions and embarked on a journey to build a community for grandfathers. I began our conversation by asking him about his podcast.

K4B 1J3 Heather was born in Scotland but grew up on a hobby farm in Ontario. In 1990, Heather, her husband, and their daughter Quinn moved to a village in England near the city of Chester, the hometown of their main character, Gemma Merriman. The family returned to Canada when Quinn was ten years old and thoroughly English, which made adjusting to life in Canada a wee bit trying. However, Quinn says, that personal experience makes it easy for her to identify with Gemma's feelings. Join Heather, Quinn and me as we discuss Gemma’s quest for adventure and independence. Before we jump into the interview, I want to share with you information about the fun activity book I have created. It’s called My Family Tree. It’s a journal. It’s a photo album. It’s a memory keeper. It’s an introduction to the art and science of family history. It does not require a genealogy subscription to use. Unlike other journals, this journal is a PDF download designed to fit into a three-ring binder, and it provides lots of opportunities to share with your grandchildren in person or online. I compiled this journal because my older grandchildren have begun to ask me questions about their late grandfather. This journal is their Christmas present. In it I have included pictures of him from the time he was a baby. I have written lots of stories about him, too. You can learn more about My Family Tree by visiting my website, https://adventureswithgrammy.com. If you have questions, please send me an e-mail at carolyn@adventureswithgrammy.com
Travel approximately 5 miles due east from where I live and you will discover the Chesapeake Bay with its many inlets and tributaries – just the sort of waterway pirates in the 17th and 18th centuries navigated with the intent of discovering (pilfering) and burying treasures.
Fast forward to today. Those of us who live near the Bay no longer fear pirates, but we still navigate the area discovering and burying treasures legally. We're playing a game today's guest describes as "hunting for Tupperware in the woods." It's geocaching.
Amie Tilk, the host of Geocache Adventures, will give us insight as to the game's origins, it's worldwide popularity, and why it's a good activity for grandparents and grandchildren.
Welcome, Amie. Please tell us a bit about you and why you enjoy geocaching.
Tips
Download the geocaching app; create an account (it’s free) Always bring a pencil or pen with you If you want “SWAG,” bring SWAG to swap!
