Welcome back to the Buckets & Boom Gates studio with Kim White and Jill Olish. In this episode, they unpack five powerful steps every entrepreneur faces: stepping up, stepping down, stepping in, stepping out, and stepping back. Whether you're making a big decision or navigating a tough season, these steps give you a simple way to name what’s happening and figure out what to do next. It’s about creating clarity in moments that can otherwise feel chaotic.

In this episode, you’ll hear about:

  • What it really means to "step up" when you see a need and why intuition plays a bigger role than confidence
  • The surprising power of "stepping down" when it’s time to pass the baton or pivot your role
  • How "stepping in" can be a temporary but powerful move that strengthens team culture and personal growth
  • Why “stepping out” isn’t failure and how to do it without guilt or disconnection
  • How “stepping back” can offer the clarity and space to make your next best decision
  • Kim and Jill's personal confessions
  • Why defining these steps clearly helps teams thrive and entrepreneurs avoid burnout

Entrepreneurship isn't a straight path, it’s a adventure of shifting, pausing, and making intentional moves. Kim and Jill remind us that owning a business means owning your choices, and the freedom to step in any direction - up, down, in, out, or back - is part of building something sustainable and sexy. This conversation is your reminder to check your footing, follow your gut, and keep building the business (and life) you really want.

Kim White and Jill Olish return to the Buckets & Boom Gates studio to unpack a powerful tool that’s helped them through dozens of life and business crossroads: the vision board. Far from just a collage of pretty pictures, these boards become decision-making tools, clarity catalysts, and gentle reminders of what's really important. Whether you are stuck in a crossroads in your business or just wish you knew what to do next, this episode will shift the way you think about your goals and how to actually reach them.

In This Episode, You’ll Learn:

  • Why vision boards are for what you want, not how to get it
  • How to use your board to make aligned, grounded decisions at tough crossroads
  • What happened when Jill looked back at her old board—and realized she’d achieved more than she thought
  • Why seeing your own family and life in the imagery makes your board more powerful
  • The surprising science behind why vision boards actually work
  • How vision boarding became a community-wide party (and why you’re invited)
  • The difference between a dream that sticks and one you’re still waffling on

Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, a vision board isn’t just a nice-to-have - it’s a tool that can help you clarify your path, remember your why, and take aligned action. In this candid conversation, they reflect on the tough decisions around where to invest time, energy, and heart. Using their recent experience with the Clubhouse audio app as a backdrop, they explore the difference between chances and possibilities, and how follow through (or the lack of it) can be the deciding factor between growth and quitting too soon.

  • Why chances feel out of your control—but possibilities are yours to choose
  • What it really looks like to face a crossroad in your business
  • The hard conversation behind their decision to keep (or leave) Clubhouse
  • How platform changes impact creators—and what to do about it
  • Why consistency and follow through still matter, even after four years

Join Kim White and Jill Olish in the Buckets & Boom Gates studio as they reflect on why celebration is more than just a feel-good moment—it’s a strategic pause that can keep entrepreneurs on track, energized, and aligned with their purpose.

Too often, we power through the wins without stopping to acknowledge them. But celebration creates space—for reflection, clarity, and even course correction. In this episode, Kim and Jill talk about why it matters to celebrate, how it helps avoid burnout, and what it really means to pause, even briefly, on the path of entrepreneurship.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why skipping celebration can leave you feeling stuck in constant motion and exhaustion
  • How a simple pause can help you reflect, realign, and remember how far you’ve come
  • The beautiful baton handoff from Kerry Zarb and why keeping the podcast going mattered
  • What surprised Jill about stepping into a co-host role and finding her own voice
  • The behind-the-scenes reality of reaching 100+ episodes—and why that milestone deserved a moment
  • Why remembering your “why” keeps you from burning out

Celebration isn’t just for the big wins—it’s for the everyday progress, the growth you didn’t notice, and the moments that remind you why you chose this path. This episode will encourage you to pause, reflect, and keep going—with a little more joy in your step.

Join Kim White and Jill Olish in the Buckets & Boom Gates studio for the final episode in this courage-packed series inspired by A Knight’s Tale. In this conversation, they talk about what it really means to show up afraid—and still do it anyway. From imposter syndrome to online trolls, business setbacks to big breakthroughs, this episode is about the kind of courage that doesn’t wait until you feel ready.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why not having “paper” doesn’t mean you’re not qualified to do the work
  • The danger of parroting others instead of owning what you do know
  • What it really means to stop running from what scares you
  • How to use evidence to build confidence during hard moments
  • Why surrounding yourself with the right people gives you strength when you're stuck
  • That kindness in business isn’t weakness—it’s royalty-level strategy
  • Why true freedom often comes after your most courageous decisions

Courage in business doesn’t come from a certificate or perfect timing—it comes from doing it afraid, trusting others when it's hard, and refusing to run when things get tough. It’s the daily, gritty kind of courage that helps you stay focused, be vulnerable, and keep showing up. Go ahead and borrow some courage from this conversation if you're not sure how to start 'changing your stars' yet.

See you next week, love y'all!

Join Kim White and Jill Olish in the Buckets & Boom Gates studio as they dive into what causes us to leak confidence—those moments of doubt, imposter syndrome, and setbacks that make us question our abilities. Confidence isn’t something you either have or don’t; it’s something you build, protect, and, sometimes, leak.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why we sometimes feel our confidence slipping away
  • How imposter syndrome plays a role in leaking confidence
  • The importance of surrounding yourself with confident people
  • How unexpected challenges can shake our confidence—and how to bounce back

Are you using a GPS in your business? In other words, what are you focusing on this year? Join Kim White and Jill Olish in the Buckets & Boom Gates studio where they share their love for mapping, and how this process has helped them do so much in business.

  • If you haven't done mapping, just stop and do it.
  • Mapping is what it sounds like - the GPS for your business.
  • If you also want to do a whole lot of things in your business, you're in the right crowd.
  • One of the keys to mapping is that it's not overwhelming.
  • Have you ever watched a golden retriever trying to put two balls in its mouth at the same time?

We don't do resolutions in our community. We do vision boarding and mapping, and that's part of our GPS. It gives us clarity so we can move faster. Business is hard enough without being confused. So take some time to slow down, start mapping, and get focused this year.

Disrupt your day with this episode in the Buckets and Boom Gates Studio with Kim White and Jill Olish. Life and business is full of disruptions by other people or other things coming in and keeping people from doing what they love, keeping them from their business, keeping them from having a life that they want to live. This is an intentional change of what individuals are doing for their own selves, because it needs to change when something is not working. Kim and Jill talk about the ways to add in intentional disruptors to get unstuck or ditch the overwhelm.

  • Disruptors can help get unstuck and can get the overwhelm toned down
  • Getting stuck in business because of the thought that everything needed to be perfect
  • Getting stuck in business because there are a lot of things that need to be done as business owners and it can be very overwhelming
  • Intentional disruptors:  People, Location, and Timing
  • Tournament everything to know the priorities
  • Change the 'focused on 15 different things' back down to one and all of a sudden that becomes a really light lift
  • Anti To-Do lists
  • The signs to do business in a different way

Kim reminds listeners to remember that the business doesn't survive if things aren't set up the right way. Each person is the one that sets up their own life, and most have set it up wrong, and that has to be remedied. Notice those signs to do business in a different way and start thinking about some intentional disruptors to get unstuck!

See you next week, love y'all!

In this episode, Kim White and Jill Olish are back in the Buckets and Boom Gates Studio with a live audience to really define what a mastermind is.  There are as many masterminds as there are of flavors of candy, but the one a person chooses should empower them. At the end of the day, a business solves a problem, and a mastermind solves the problem to help that person be that solution. Listen in to hear more about the pieces that make up a great mastermind group.

  • Defining masterminds and the things to look for in a good one
  • What sets F.I.R.E. Up Mastermind apart
  • Focused masterminds versus a general mastermind
  • Disruptors and getting unstuck with homework in masterminds

A mastermind should help someone be able to think about things in a way that they can implement those things in their business. It's a way to understand the processes of business because there are a lot of things that have to be done if a person owns one. Masterminds and My Sexy Business are there to show that anyone can build a business that they own without it owning them.

Kim White and Jill Olish, plus a live audience, are back in the BBG studio talking about a super hack that Kim sometimes gets teased about. They will fill you in on another piece of the Sticky Note Time process in this episode about going to the airport and focusing without distractions.

  • Focusing on what it is you need to do
  • Cutting off all notifications
  • Start small, it starts getting a little scary, sometimes you don't want to let anyone down
  • When you do one thing at a time by going to the airport, you can get more done
  • What you thought you could do in an hour, you might realize you can do in a lot less time
  • It's about honoring your priorities, honoring the fact that your business supports your life

Speaking of Buckets and Boom Gates... A bucket is a way to break things down into a smaller thing like batching, and time blocking (check out episodes 83 & 84). The trifecta is when you understand those two and you add going to the airport, the boom gate. Take a shot at this super hack challenge and try going to the airport yourself for one hour, Kim and Jill would love to know how it went.

Kim White and Jill Olish are back in the BBG Studio with a live audience this week talking about more pieces of the Sticky Note Time process. With another way to multiply your time, Kim introduces a solution for taking better care of clients and even taking better care of yourself too. Listen along for their confessions, hacks, and this week's challenge.

  • A way to multiply what you can get done in a set amount of time
  • How batching and time blocking go together
  • Do similar things to do more of it in less time
  • Block off time to stay focused and do it for a set length of time
  • Emails are normally everyone else's agenda for you
  • If you're time blocking think about who that time is for
  • What are the parameters?
  • Email inbox hack
  • The power of telling your calendar what to do
  • De-stresses yourself
  • Take off the unnecessary pressure
  • Stop the feeling that you're always stuck or overwhelmed in everything

This practice of time blocking can be intimidating, but once you get in the groove, you don't have that same pressure feeling. Enjoy the freedom of telling your calendar what you're doing and not being controlled by someone else's agenda for you.

Kim White and Jill Olish are back in the BBG Studio, again with a live audience, with a topic that Kim can get some pushback on. In this episode, they explain why they have ditched the illusion of multitasking and implemented 'batching.' Keep listening to learn how batching can have an impact on personal things, businesses, and the relationships around you.

  • Why batching and not multitasking?
  • Have more things finished and done because you're focusing 100% on that thing
  • Pro tip for multiplying your time and getting more done in less time
  • If you're only 'on ramping' and 'off ramping' one time, you're already saving time, even if you're at the same speed
  • You can make two lasagnas at the same time with the same amount of dirty pans
  • What would it look like if you did a whole month's worth of socials in a day so that you wouldn't have to think about it?
  • You're done for longer periods of time, and it's such a relief
  • Even turn relationships into better things
  • Challenge: Pick something that's similar, whether it's cooking, recording, emails, or anything, see how much quicker you can be when you do two at one time or three at one time

Just imagine, with some thinking ahead, those holiday meals that are coming up can be batched ahead of time, allowing you to be present and not so stressed in the actual holiday.

Batching may seem like it wouldn't do much to multiply your time but try it and see. It will blow your mind how much unnecessary pressure and stress you can remove from your day and your life.

The conversation in the BBG Studio gets a bit spicy on this episode involves un-learning and learning things on this business adventure. Indiana Jones has nothing on us entrepreneurs. There are dangers along the way and plenty of mazes to find the success of freedom. We are talking about the cost of that freedom on today's show.

  • What is the one thing or reason that keeps you going on this adventure?
  • Having a child changes what is most important
  • Things we give up and sacrifice to get freedom
  • Security, effort, and financial shifts
  • Compromising in each of the roles, jobs, positions
  • Limited income vs unlimited income
  • Different kinds of freedom and the cost of each
  • Compliance, regulations, responsibilities
  • Illusion of the glamorous
  • Self disciplined enough to show up
  • Plans, systems, and a team
  • Vacation from a vacation
  • How others are impacted by our choices
  • Example of sacrificing something important for something more important
  • Confessions of a workaholic and the guilt
  • Not thinking outside of the usual, stuck in a rut
  • Seeing doors and opportunities around us
  • Working in a different capacity
  • What could happen? What if?
  • Shifting like a true adventurer
  • Stuck can be paralyzing and scary waiting game
  • What is the treasure in the entrepreneur adventure?
  • Dreaming of milestones and seeing them come to life

The freedom of choice comes with costs but we do have the opportunities around us if we look for them like hidden treasure. Being both flexible and responsible is part of owning a business. Make sure what you are sacrificing is worth it because the cost of freedom is for you to choose for yourself. Only you can decide what is the most important thing for you.

As content creators, podcasters, live streamers, whatever it is, we want more watchers, more viewers, more visitors to our website, and even more opportunities. Join Kim White in the BBG Studio with special guest Denise Millet, the Findability Queen, in this conversation about understanding all the complicated things about SEO and optimizing.

  • Don't overlook the easy things
  • You can't optimize what you don't have
  • Simple steps to make your content recognizable and understandable by search engines
  • The findability part is getting your things into the search engine
  • There's nothing wrong with hiring someone else to help you in your business, but also remember, you know your content best cause you created it
  • Connect with your audience by sitting on their side of the keyboard and asking what is it that they're looking for?
  • Different styles of search - on a computer with a keyboard, on your phone with the keypad and speech to text
  • You really have to think about where your people are and how they are asking their questions
  • It's really creating the best piece of content for those sets of words that are going to represent what you want to represent

A lot of times we're looking for easy and we skip the thing that's right in front of us that actually would give us a huge impact. Keep it simple because none of us need complicated.

Welcome to the Buckets and Boom Gates Studio with Kim White and Jill Olish. This week's conversation in the Team Series dives deeper into delegating. They discuss how delegating can bring time back to your schedule that you need for doing business or doing life. Listen along for some more confessions.

  • People take it lightly to delegate something
  • Delegate something the right way, brings time back to your schedule that you need for doing business or doing life
  • Do you want to delegate something because you want more to do?
  • Knowing why you're going to delegate something will help you know where to start delegating
  • Start with what's going to benefit you the most in time
  • We need to also consider what's going to help us make more money
  • You're building a business that's going to support your life, an entire other family or an entire team of families
  • Trading time for money
  • When it is past time to delegate
  • Humans supporting and helping is what delegation looks like
  • So hard conversations come with delegation

Knowing these things before you start to delegate will keep you from giving up and encourage you to keep looking for the right person for your team. Start practicing delegating now, write down the processes in your business now, it actually can be easier to delegate when you do it from the beginning.

Welcome to the Buckets and Boom Gates Studio with Kim White and Jill Olish. This week's conversation in the Team Series is focused on the right, or wrong, ways to delegate. Kim shares some confessions on the wrong ways to delegate. And together Jill and Kim discuss gaining more time back for you as the owner versus spending all your time doing all the little things in your business. Keep listening to hear their own trials learning how to get support from others.

  • One of the worst ways to delegate
  • Assuming someone else knows what you know
  • Your business owns you because you can't delegate
  • Asking questions means my instructions aren't clear
  • An assistant of any kind is for the purpose of delegating to them something that takes something off you as the owner's plate
  • Delegating because we don't like something is a great place to start
  • The hardest place to start when you start delegating
  • Trying to cut the cost in the wrong place
  • A team supports my calendar so that the business can run without me

So delegation to, Kim and Jill, is the key to setting things in motion. It's just knowing how to delegate and when to delegate because, without it, it's not possible to have a business that doesn't own you.

Join us next week for another episode in the Team Series.

Welcome to the Buckets and Boom Gates Studio with Kim White and Jill Olish. This week's conversation in the Team Series is focused on how someone's "want to" impacts your whole life and not just your business. Confessions and behind the scenes are a regular part of this podcast. Listen in as we spill the tea on ourselves.

  • "Want To" can be damaged by many different things
  • Looking for a team and it's culture
  • The process we use to start a team or add onto a team
  • Dating/Interviewing Scenario
  • Ability to learn is tied to "want to"
  • Anyone can apply for our team but Team 30, 60, & 90 spots are earned
  • Showboating is not part of our culture
  • Interning to learn or find a spot on the team
  • Who you are serving matters
  • How working together like a high school project shows your motives
  • Will you be the next one they are talking about
  • Character is shown in how you handle being on a team
  • Facets on a team includes flexibility, skills, challenges
  • Leaders have to recognize human things to decide on keeping team members
  • Each member leaves a ripple effect
  • Graduating a team member for good or bad reasons

Don't get this twisted about a team... Showboating, being selfish, resentful of working, and other things serving your own self is not the same as taking care of yourself so you can show up and be part of the team and help others around you. When an entrepreneur or business owner needs to delegate tasks, it is vital to build a team in the right way so you have the ability to delegate long term. Building a business that supports your life instead of one that takes your life is influenced by how you delegate.

Ready to learn to delegate? Come join us in the Groundwork Brigade Mastermind Community and see how powerful it is to build the right kind of team in the right way.

  • We are not breaking up but being responsible
  • When we say yes to something we are saying no to something else
  • Kerry made some hard decisions that are super important for her clients
  • Having a full client roster and having clients who have issues and crisis' going on leads to hard choices
  • Even locations have seasons - coming out of the Great Freeze of 2020 in 2024
  • Time zones, audio quality, lack of taking care of herself, all adds up to this is the best decision for our Little Aussie Bucket of Swearing Sunshine (LABOSS) ☀️
  • Reframing the necessary choices and being honest
  • Reality has hit and pivoting now out of the pandemic is vital
  • The Money Barista Apron is turned to the back and is now a cape

Skates on and cape flying as Kerry is rescuing her clients. If you feel a breeze blow by, it might just be Kerry. Planning for Season Two has already begun and after a short break Buckets & Boom Gates will be back but will look a bit different. Stay tuned...

This week in the BBG Studio the discussion continues in the versus series. This episode gets spicy and hits close to home as we compare the difference between messy and sloppy. While messy is beautiful and shows progress, sloppy is a much different thing in our businesses. Confessions included during this convo...

  • Getting started and showing the flaws
  • Start before you feel ready
  • Continuously improve over time
  • Everyone starts at zero no matter what they are starting
  • It takes courage to start
  • Are you too tired or don't care anymore?
  • Pause or full stop
  • Taking care of yourself as a human
  • Caution to slow down when things start to get sloppy
  • Identifying there is a problem
  • Signs things have changed from messy to sloppy
  • Pivots, shifts, adjustments
  • Has your 'want to' changed

Doing a bad job because something changed is not the same as learning as we go. Things shift, change, and evolve in our businesses and our schedules. We as humans also go through changes. Recognizing the sloppy and making sure we navigate those transitions is important.

It takes courage to start and it takes even more to shift, pivot, and adjust. Since Kerry started podcasting, she has done over 400 podcast episodes and is now a rockstar podcaster. Someday the rest of us may get to Kerry's level, but until then, embrace our messy because we don't want to be sloppy with you our amazing listener!

Join us next week for a living example of making sure we are not being sloppy going forward.

Welcome to the BBG Studio where conversations are going strong in the versus series. Breaking down freebies and making it clear what is on that list. Also what a micro offer is and how to know when to use which one.

  • origin story and questions coming in
  • what are people asking for
  • if no one is asking for your freebie, there may be a reason
  • are you telling people that it is available
  • how do they know if you don't tell them that it's available
  • small investment for a big win test
  • how well do they know you
  • how much money to charge for a micro offer
  • using a micro offer to vet people for your community

Giving something of value is part of doing great business. Using freebies and micro offers strategically to build relationships with the people you have the solution for can allow them to know if they can trust you delivering a win for them. There are many different ways of doing a freebie and micro offer to give opportunities so listen to what you are being asked because those questions leave clues for you.

This week in the BBG Studio it gets quite spicy with the versus series. We understand how hard it can be to start a new business as we are both serial entrepreneurs because we love the adventure. Join us as we unpack the reason behind a pitch and offer.

  • Overwhelming and exhausting information
  • General & broad vs specific
  • Translation of desperate or irresistible marketing
  • Passionate about being the solution
  • Understanding when to say yes (or no) to someone
  • Diversifying dangers and setting boundaries
  • Looking through the lense of a pitch and offer

Knowing who you are the solution for and not saying yes when you aren't is vital to your business success. How we portray ourselves, our business, and what we do helps the right people find us and the wrong ones know to look elsewhere. The utopia of a business is wanting to help everyone and knowing the ones you really can help. We hope this conversation unpacks clarity of the difference for you in your business.

Desperate marketing, also known as creepy, can be done for several reasons. Join us in the BBG Studio to hear three reasons people can be creepy and how shifting to irresistible marketing saves money and feels so much better. If you aren't sure what you are using, listen in to know the difference.

  • some people are selling 'how to sell' which a lot of the time is teaching people how to do creepy marketing
  • haters are going to hate when we say these things out loud
  • Kerry - "I'm a numbers girl and I think desperate marketing costs more money."
  • using the language of those who need that solution you provide
  • if someone is new to business they may not realize there are different ways to do marketing

It's important to remember we are all a work in progress and so are our businesses. We can grow, shift, and level up. Doing the right kind of marketing can ultimately mean people are chasing you for the solution instead of you chasing them. Here's to never being creepy!🥂

If you want to be successful at your business, you have to be consistent and repeat your message 20 bazillion times. Kerry and Kim are in the Buckets & Boom Gates Studio talking about getting your message clear and learning not to begrudge anybody needing to hear it more and more and more before they understand.

  • Kim's Princess confession: sometimes I need to be told hundreds of times before I comprehend something
  • We're sick of saying it, so everyone must have gotten it, right?!
  • The original definition of perfect is "matured"
  • We don't know when someone finds us for the first time
  • Did I really give that the chance it deserved?
  • Building a business is exciting, but maintaining a business can be pretty boring

"So how many times do I need to tell you, Kim?"

"A bazillion and twelve, Kerry!"

Have you ever had a hater? Especially on socials? Kim and Kerry are in the Buckets & Boom Gates Studio discussing what they've learned from haters over the years, and how to grow that thicker skin that keeps you from wearing your feelings on your sleeves and getting hurt all the time.

  • The best reaction is to be indifferent
  • It can be encouraging if you can get past your feelings
  • Some older people are just as volatile as when they were younger
  • We don't have to respond to everything straight away

The Money Barista ™

Kerry introduced The Virtual Cafe from her love of coffee in July 2022. This was the same time Kerry launched her finance club for entrepeneurs. Little did she know it would hold the keys to this complete rebrand experience.

Kerry found clarity by slowing down and not trying to force her mission too fast! Her block of land (business foundation), has been solid ground and the renovation of her house (business) is now complete!

This week's episode is a little spicy. Paying for ads on social media, Kim and Kerry get real about this topic and why they believe it is so important to recognise when and why this can come into your business.

It’s a controversial topic today in the BBG studio!

They discuss...

  • Have you got your messaging right, have you done your research first
  • Unknown results and wasting money
  • Having the reverse effect, people can smell the desperation
  • Look at your own reaction to paid ads
  • Is your paid ad looking creepy and ruining your reputation
  • Who is telling us to do paid ads

We invite you to tune in next week as we have a living proof example of not needing to pay for ads on socials. We hope you can join us as we unveil something very special, and a little exciting 🥳

Today’s episode could be mistaken for playing games. Tetris is a well known game of placing shapes into place to fill the lines before the screen overflows. Tournamenting, as we discuss, can be known of from football games and many other sports where there is just one winner.

This week in the BBG Studio, Kerry & Kim's conversation includes:

  • Tetrising your calendar to fit with you
  • Making decisions and avoiding decision fatigue
  • There are no ties in a tournament
  • Getting through our lists without overwhelm
  • What's your bandwidth score for deciding what to do
  • Looking after ourselves in the process
  • Bringing your A game to the table
  • Our gift of a challenge

There are both heavy and light ways to do business. Making decisions to match our bandwidth and meeting deadlines can be a mentally draining task in itself.

This is why Kim & Kerry just love Tetrising and Tournamenting. We want you to adopt this way of organising your day/week or month to make it lighter for you, taking away the guesswork and avoiding the decision fatigue you can face in your business.

Making things a light lift for Kim’s voice this week, we delegated more talking to Kerry for this episode, which Kerry loves to do!

Sometimes as entrepreneurs we need to free up time and this can be delegating what we love or offloading things that need to be done.

This week in the BBG Studio, Kerry & Kim's conversation includes:

  • Letting go of the control to free up time
  • Finding better ways things can be done
  • Creating the system and process to delegate
  • Mindless things for recovery time
  • Getting ready to delegate

We get to choose what we delegate, and we can keep what we love to do without sacrificing our minds, bodies and business.

"You want to be facing forward in the saddle when the gate opens" - Troy

The commitment you make to yourself and the attitude you come to the arena with determine whether you will ride that wild beast called business or get bucked off quickly. The entrepreneur adventure is full of surprises so being prepared can make all the difference.

This week in the BBG Studio, Kerry & Kim's conversation includes:

  • not being ready to go into the arena can make you feel like you failed
  • what is required to be ready
  • putting the right pieces in place at the right time
  • making money in your business to stay in business
  • 'teenager' entrepreneurs don't want to prepare (not based on age)
  • everyone is on their own adventure
  • opening the gate in the wrong arena

There are both heavy and light ways to do business. It can be harder when you aren't willing to follow the steps to be prepared. Getting bucked off from not doing the prep work can steal your courage and confidence. Learning to prepare and being tenaciously committed makes it possible to build the right things in the right order in your business.

No one knows all the answers so ask the questions and get prepared for that biz gate to open to the sounds of us cheering you on!

Jump on up, cause today’s episode is piggybacking off last week’s team members episode and Kim and Kerry are ripping off a spicy band aid straight away and asking important questions like when you are building a team are you hiring people that move the needle in your business or people to hang out with? Why? Because recognizing the difference is an important step as you level up as an entrepreneur and small business owner. Do you have team members or a posse? Are your team members simply there as your besties and mates for the dosh and being paid to be your friend? Listen in as Kim and Kerry get spicier than a chilli and wasabi combined and chat about:

  • Accountability while also protecting bandwidth and guarding the melty moments. Recognizing when we could be making excuses for team members compared to being compassionate for life and the humanness that comes with that. Why do you want team members? Is it for company because you are feeling alone and vulnerable? Be mindful.
  • Getting raw and real as the leader in your business. There may be times when the performance of team members doesn’t match the work that we hired them to do. This can require hard decisions, conversations and honest assessments with ourselves and others. Unfortunately the blame game impacts how we feel and the excuses we can make to grow our business. At the end of the day nobody is going to love your business more than you do and nobody is going to take care of business like we do either.
  • Graduating team members for many reasons and how not causing embarrassment to others fosters great team dynamics. The importance of realizing when we can’t help others or if someone has a ‘want to’ which is broken. On the flip side if you have team members who you would never graduate from, there needs to be a strong coffee and back the car up to get clear because you may be stepping into the posse territory.
  • The leadership journey of traveling higher and higher and becoming less and less surrounded by others who have similar aspirations, motivations and relationship values. How in that journey people may recognize, change and realize what it means to be a team member, perhaps even switch from posse to team. At the end of the day, it starts with you.

In her wisdom, Kim points out the reason why mastermind groups and communities are so powerful is because it gives you people who are not part of your team or posse. To brainstorm, have hard conversations, check in with yourself and give accountability in a different way. This can combat the loneliness, avoid a train wreck and hot mess and what better place to do that than the Fire Up Groundwork Brigade. We can’t wait to see you there.

We hope you enjoy this experience 🙏

What’s the favorite type of time travel for Kim and Kerry? In this episode it’s hitching a ride in their red and blue hellcats and starting before the beginning. Yep, you heard it right…starting before the beginning. When it comes to team members as entrepreneurs and small business owners this component can be a game changer when you’ve figured this part out. While it might seem a little backwards, hop in your time machine and join Kim and Kerry as they travel around the conversation and talk about:

  • The human side of starting a team. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go as the fairytale suggests. There are several reasons why it doesn’t go to plan, gets messy and the reasons why starting a team become blurry. Our overwhelm, low bandwidth, lack of understanding of processes does not disappear immediately when hiring a team as we had hoped. Knowing how to manage people in order to help work through processes takes patience and practice.
  • Delegation and team members. Is it a match made in heaven? Is it simply best to delegate tasks and leave it at that? What do you want to delegate for? Or can you build something together as a team? When we are delegating tasks for the very first time to team members and there isn’t a process or system. There’s an important difference between delegation and togetherness which is part of the starting before the beginning learning process.
  • How we work versus how others work. Start by looking for repeatable tasks that are done every day. Systems and processes can feel different between contractors, employees, team members when it comes to consistency, cost, opportunities, feedback, and mindset. There is a level of leadership versus going along with the flow and different levels of ‘want to’ in business and why getting specific matters.
  • How getting things off our plate in a hurry can impact results for the team and the end vision. Are we able to translate the map in our mind when trying to hurry through the delegation process or don’t have a full understanding of how to do the tasks?
  • You can hire character, or you can hire talent, or you can hire both. In reality, we often get what we pay for and even if you are hiring someone who doesn’t have the skills yet it can be a great opportunity for them to expand their horizons while you also lighten your task list as well.

Both Kim and Kerry have stories and experiences when it comes to hiring team members for their businesses. From starting out at 10 hours a month, to having multiple team members and managing the ebbs and flows of humanness. The importance of being upfront and honest to work better within a team. Taking the pressure off to have all the answers and having those out loud conversations with all the cards on the table. If you are interested in finding out more about managing team members and how to grow your business you can join us for the join Fire Up Groundwork Brigade where you can find weekly meetings, accountability and more to set yourself up for success.

Bleep, bleep, bleep!!! No, it’s not Kerry and her usual Ozzie bucket of swearing sunshine, that’s the sound of your microwave calling all entrepreneurs. As small business owners we often want quick pop popcorn, one press button heat and eat, drive through version of instant success. It doesn’t mean that there isn’t a degree of quick things as we start and grow a business. Both the crockpot and the microwave produce results. However, marinating and having coffee with our ideas, processes and experiences is on the minds of these two entrepreneurs as they collaborate and get juicy over:

  • Lasagna – infusing our business with flavor, learnings and exceptional results. The big fat question mark of whether a frozen supermarket substitute really produces a longer lasting result.
  • How it can take time to get good at what we are doing and learning over the years about different ways, more sustainable ways and repeatable recipes for long term sustainability in business.
  • Slowing down to speed up (if you’re just tuning in or you’ve religiously listened to all 13 episodes to this point you may have heard it before, and no doubt you will hear it again because there is a huge amount of power behind those very five words).
  • Quickness and quality. While popcorn is good for a go to, it doesn’t quite match the same experience and flavors that a stew in the slow cooker can bring.

So, while the slow cooker is bubbling and popcorn popping, we would love to invite you to join Fire Up Groundwork Brigade. It’s like a delicious and encouraging family dinner for entrepreneurs and small business owners. We invite you to join us at the table, to support and grow your business towards sustainable, manageable, and profitable success.

Where did you get that hat? Where did you get that…illusion? Today Kim and Kerry are popping on one hat, and one hat only - the illusion of doing it all in business. Admittedly, as entrepreneurs and small business owners we often try to wear ALL the hats in business – wanting to do it all and do it all overnight. Can you feel the pressure stacking up under all those hats? Kim and Kerry shine a light on the illusions and honestly talk about:

  • Getting a degree for everything versus needing a level of understanding in business as entrepreneurs. Learning to belly crawl before we can walk, run and outsource to others.
  • Talking to the mirror, mirror on the wall and coming back to reality rather than a head in the clouds approach. Checking in with ourselves to make sure we are on track and not burning out.
  • The illusion that you need multiple figures in the bank account to outsource, scale, and attract clients.
  • Poking a hole in your bucket by being prideful, beating on your Tarzan chest and thinking you don’t need anyone. Realising that someone else may not do it the same as you will and that is okay.

If you’re ready to create magic in your business and don’t want to be a lone ranger anymore, Kim and Kerry absolutely believe business is better together. Come along and join us at the Fire Up Groundwork Brigade where you can find all the fun with a capital F and sparkles in between.

As entrepreneurs we like to work with other people. A collaboration could be a great way to grow your business.

In today's episode, Kim & Kerry discuss what a collaboration is, the difference between a collaboration, joint venture, partnership & being an affiliate, what a successful collaboration looks & why every collaboration needs a break-up plan.

Join Kim & Kerry as we discuss:

  • What does collaboration mean?
  • The difference between a collaboration, joint venture, partnership & being affiliate
  • What a successful collaboration looks like
  • Why every collaboration should have a break-up plan

Collaboration is the ability to work together to come to the same goal. When the goal is the same, it's really easy to work together to accomplish it. A collaboration should benefit everyone, not just one individual. A collaboration can give you more street credit, more clients and more exposure.

As entrepreneurs & small business owners we have a lot of responsibilities. We have been taught the best way to get all the things is to multitask. Multitasking is when you do more than one task at a time, you are dividing your time between numerous things.

We have found a better way to get things done. The secret to moving the needle is to use 2 strategies Stacking & Batching. Stacking is doing one thing for multiple purposes. It's allowing you to use one thing for different areas of your life & business.

Batching is where you stay in one zone or frame of mind for a dedicated amount of time.

Join Kim & Kerry as we discuss:

  • 1 - Stacking is doing one thing for multiple purposes.
  • 2 - Multitasking is setting us up to fail
  • 3 - If you are dividing your 100% between things, you can't do 100% of one thing
  • 4 - Batching is where you stay in that zone or frame of mind until one task is done.

How many meetings does it take to get action?

Meetings are a great way to connect with colleagues, brainstorm ideas, and make decisions. They also provide an opportunity for team members to come together, discuss progress, and stay on track with their goals.

As entrepreneuers we do need to guard our time and protect our calendar and sometimes this means being more purposeful with having meets and the outcomes they can deliver to us and our small business.

Do you have something holding you back?

Our minds can play tricks on us which can cause us to hit the brakes and question everything we are doing with an almighty question - who am I to be doing this?

We enjoy our conversations, we may giggle, however, we do take this topic seriously.

This is episode 2 of the Buckets & Boom Gates podcast.

When Kim met Kerry, under her desk, we are both happily married, by the way, this moment became our entrepreneur's love story and a great example for this conversation.

Entrepreneurs & Small Business Owners hit these kinds of roadblocks, speed humps that can stop us in our tracks.

We can all reach a moment when we stop reaching to be someone else, getting comfortable with ourselves and where we are at, and what we bring to the table.

Imposter syndrome can sneak up on us when we start our business, or when we are looking to grow our business, or even when we are doing something new in our journey.
