Revival is here! Or wait, is it? What do we mean when we talk about revival? Many great believers of the past rightly cried out for it. Some saw it and others did not. Here’s the thing. Is it possible for revival to come in a way we’ve never seen before? Does it have to be loud? Emotional? Exhuberant? Who is it for, and why do we want it so badly? This weeks episode addresses these questions and walks through what revival truly means for the follower of Christ. Join Sarah & Rob as they seek to understand more about this powerful move of God.

Obedience can be a difficult word. Many are cynical about the word and those who would use it. We seem to naturally distrust the call to obey. Perhaps this is because obedience has been posited to us as our duty. A duty that has often meant, “don’t ask questions, and do what you’re told.” However, obedience is Christ’s command to each one of us. In fact he tells us “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” Oof! What? How many times do you hear that in a salvation message? Today Sarah and Rob unpack Jesus’ message of obedience. Why do we struggle so greatly with it, and is it something we need to take seriously? Jump into today’s episode to hear about their personal experiences with obedience, and what Jesus word on it means for the church.

Is simplicity taught in our churches today? On today's episode Sarah and Rob share their understanding and struggles with one of the less talked about disciplines...simplicity. Being born into a world of consumption and excess, finding the path that leads to a life of simplicity can seem daunting if not impossible. Yet, we should not be afraid of this call to escape the often material focused messaging infiltrating our hearts and minds daily. Jesus says, "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matthew 7:14. Jump in on today's episode for an honest discussion about the power and possibilities of a life of simplicity.

This week Rob and Sarah are starting a new series all about Spiritual Disciplines. Regardless of our beliefs, we can all agree that there is something that is forming us. For those of us who call ourselves Christians, the thing that is forming us should be Jesus. Jesus demonstrated perfectly how to be in relationship with the Father. If we follow his example, this will help us to understand the importance of Spiritual Disciplines.

"And without faith it is impossible to please God..." Heb. 11:6a. Faith is often misunderstood in today's world. Some see it as an illogical belief in "Flying Spaghetti Monster", and others can see it as a magical device we use to get what we want in life. Faith is neither of these things. It is a part of who we are in Jesus. It shapes our trust in, and our obedience to the one we believe died and rose again.

Today Sarah and Rob talk all about faith. How is their faith? Does individual faith differ from the faith of a community? Is one more important than the other? Join in today and become a part of the discussion on what it means to be a person of faith.

We've all heard phrases like "God won't give you more than you can handle" or "it's all a part of God's plan". Maybe we've even used similar phrases to try and comfort someone who is going through a difficult time. But are phrases like this helpful or harmful? Is it possible that in our attempt to be positive, we become toxic? Today we are talking about just that; giving examples of toxic positivity and suggesting responses that would be more biblical and helpful to those who are hurting.

Women belong in ministry. Full stop. Sadly, this is not a statement that is supported by everyone within the Christian faith. So how do we respond to those who disagree with us, quoting scripture in the process?

This week we invite Pastor Sandra McIntosh to the podcast to talk to us about just that. With over 40 years of ministry experience, she provides us with mountains of biblical examples of women in ministry. This episode will be sure to uplift and encourage every believer to support women called into pastoral ministry.

Here are some of the biblical examples mentioned in today's podcast:

In the Old Testament, Sarah births a nation at the age of 90.

Jochebed defies the Pharaoh to rescue her son.

Miriam prophesies and sings over a fledgling nation.

Deborah commands armies as the chief prophet and judge in the land.

Jael assassinates the enemy.

Jehosheba preserves the lineage of David.

Huldah was a prophetess who instructs the king.

Rahab operates as a spy.

Queen Esther saves her people.

In the New Testament, an unwed girl accepts a divine, dangerous assignment that changes the course of human history.

Anna becomes the first evangelist, prophesying that the Messiah has come.

Mary lavishes her inheritance on the Messiah’s feet.

Women were the last at the cross when his other disciples had fled.

The women at the tomb are the first to testify of Christ’s resurrection. When women’s testimony wasn’t considered valued in the culture and Jesus told them on purpose – he was saying your testimony is valid.

Revival. With the recent Holy Spirit outpouring at Asbury University, revival has been on everyone's mind. So how do we know when we're in revival? Is it always going to be a massive outpouring like Asbury or Azusa Street, or can it be different. This week Sarah and Rob get into this topic, and discuss what revival looks like and why we believe that Bethel is experiencing revival.

This week we are thrilled to welcome Kamoi McWhinney to the podcast. Immigrating to Canada from Jamaica at a young age, Kamoi's story is a powerful and beautiful testimony of God's goodness. It has not always been easy growing up black in Canada, but her story and spirit are a testimony to the truth that God does not leave us nor forsake us. Kamoi is a vital part of the Bethel Ottawa community. She is a talented musician and also lends her voice to our racial reconciliation team. Do not miss this important conversation about race, faith and how we can love each other better.
