Being human provides a distinct disadvantage while attempting to invest optimally. The issue is, we are emotional. The psychological aspect of investing is one that is discussed often and the ability to control emotion is argued by many to be the single most important aspect of an investor's strategy. For this reason, I thought the subject of psychology in investing may provide a fantastic discussion with one of the great minds of our current day, Brian Feroldi!

In this episode, Brian and I discuss;

2:02 What psychological hurdles do investors need to conquer if they are to be successful investors?

4:00 How can investors maintain conviction during a bear market?

7:15 How can investors maintain control over emotions such as FOMO?

10:00 How can investors adjust their portfolios based on their personalities/circumstances?

13:37 How can investors prepare themselves for downside risk?

20:44 Is Brain’s strategy set or does he still tweak it now and then?

22:55 Should we study psychological or technical expertise from great investors?

25:30 Final thoughts and tips from Brian

The wild world of crypto is something to behold.. In a relatively short period of time we have witnessed bitcoin's cataclysmic rise from less than a penny, to pizza money, to 70K USD, and back down to 16K USD where we currently sit today (02JAN2023).

At a time when FTX, a leader amongst crypto exchanges has filed for bankruptcy, and cryptocurrencies are in what appears to be a systemic bear market, I felt the need to invite Sae'Von Springer back on the show to give us an update on all things crypto.

Sae'Von is the author of "The Blockchain Blueprint" (now available) and is the founder of Native Assets, a blockchain firm specializing in educational training, detailed industry analysis, and corporate advising.

Needless to say, Sae'Von is well versed in the ever-evolving world of crypto and a fantastic guest for any podcast. It was a blast interviewing Sae'Von for this episode of Tav's 2 Cents!

Hope you enjoy the show!

Oil is one of the most important commodities on the planet today. Without oil, and the energy that oil provides our modern economy, our current way of life would essentially come to a standstill..

It should come as no surprise then that the oil landscape both politically and financially is unequivocally interesting!

For this reason, I truly enjoy any opportunity to discuss oil with someone as educated and informed as the guest for this podcast Ellen Wald PH.D. Ellen is a historian and scholar of the energy industry and western involvement in the Middle East. Ellen wrote the book Saudi, Inc.: The Arabian Kingdom's Pursuit of Profit and Power, and has a vast knowledge of the Middle East and oil markets in general.

As you can imagine, this was an amazing podcast and one that I hope you will enjoy!

As I continue to dig deeper into the world of energy and investment, the topic of climate change is ever-present. Be it from a political, social, or financial (eg, ESG) standpoint, the climate change debate continues to demand attention. In saying this, I thought it may be beneficial to speak with Marc Cortez who literally wrote a book on climate change to try and understand this issue at greater length. My goal, as always, is to learn and share information about the intricacies of this topic in an attempt to better myself as a DIY investor.

Here is a little bit about Marc: Marc Cortez is the author of 'Climaturity: A Journey into the Muddy Climate Middle', he is an entrepreneur, and is a long-time veteran of the solar, electric vehicle, and energy storage industries. Marc has raised over $23M for multiple startups, and is currently the Founder/CEO of Liquid8, a water conservation startup. Marc is also a professor of Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Check out my interview with Jordan Syatt!

When I think about finance, I try to learn lessons from more than the typical group of analysts, traders, and planners. In my opinion, financial success is just as dependant on personal development as any other discipline. For this reason I try to search out people who are the best in their field and learn which skills and methods have allowed them to become, and remain successful.

Jordan is a perfect example of someone who has had great success in their field. Jordan is a 5x World Record Powerlifter, a Precision Nutrition and Westside Barbell Certified coach, he has a Bachelors of Science in Health & Behavior Science with a focus in Strength & Conditioning, and he holds several powerlifting world records. China’s economy, Chinese politics, China’s people, and China’s history are all very large subjects and areas where information can be scattered and hard to find. Fortunately for me, or anyone who decides to watch, in this episode Jason provides a master class on all things China. There is so much content here that I do not even know where to start with time stamps. Let me just say, if you’re interested in China, start at the beginning and enjoy learning from this well educated and traveled guest Jason Szeftel!

Everybody has a friend that knows way too much about politics. Someone who they can reach out to when the world gets complicated. For me, that friend is Ben Hammond! Ben’s educational background includes a Masters Degree in Political Economics so he is a fantastic resource for all thing politics and global events!

As we all know, in investing, politics matter so I think conversations like this one are very important to have while investing for the long  or short term.

Ben and I discuss Putin and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We discuss Putin’s motives, a brief history on Russia-Ukraine relations, what NATO’s next move could be, why Putin is likely to continue flexing his hard political power as opposed to the West’s soft power approach, and the significance of Putin’s legacy to Putin. There is a lot to talk about! My hope is that this episode will provide some insight and information for investors who aren’t sure how to react to this new war in Europe.

Thoughts and prayers with all who are affected by this war.
