Update (2:26 PM) - The “lost cause” spreads to Pennsylvania, where more GOP “Electors” convened and “voted” for President Trump. Again, this is not valid. There is no GOP slate in Pennsylvania, because President-Elect Joe Biden is the certified winner by a margin of over 80,000 votes, and therefore his Democratic Electors are the only legal slate there and in Georgia.
Update (12:50 PM) - This is not valid. Electors for a losing presidential candidate cannot just meet and send their slate into Congress. It’s a publicity “lost cause” stunt and nothing else.
On this edition of Ramblings With Tim, we are talking about the Electoral College - because today is Electoral College Day!- and the 2020 Presidential Election between defeated incumbent Republican President Donald Trump and victorious Democratic President-Elect Joe Biden officially concludes today.
Also, today is Vaccination Day in the United States, with a New York City nurse being the first recipient of a coronavirus vaccine this morning. Tim rambles about both Days of Note whilst drinking a cup of coffee and looking fondly at the light down at the end of the tragic COVID-19 tunnel we can all see now.

The United States Presidential Election in Texas between incumbent Republican Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden is shaping to be too close for comfort with only 8 days to Election Day.

2016 Texas Results - Republican nominee Donald Trump received 4.6 million votes (52.23%) to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s 3.8 million votes (43.24%). Nearly 9 million Texans voted in 2016 and Mr. Trump won the state by approximately 9%.
2018 Texas Results - Incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz received 4.2 million votes (50.9%) to then-Democratic Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s 4.045 million votes (48.3%). Roughly 8.3 million Texans voted in 2018 and Mr. Cruz won by approximately 2.6%.
2016 Harris County Results - Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton received 706,471 votes (54.2%) to Republican nominee Donald Trump’s 544,960 votes (41.8%). Roughly 1.3 million Harris County residents voted in 2016 and Ms. Clinton won the county by over 12.4%.
2018 Harris County Results - Then-Democratic Congressman Beto O’Rourke received 700,200 votes (58%) to incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz’s 498,902 votes (41.3%). Nearly 1.2 million Harris County residents voted in 2018 and Mr. Cruz won the county by over 16.7%.

The United States Senate Election in Montana between incumbent Republican Steve Daines and Democratic Governor Steve Bullock is shaping up to be one of the most consequential races in the country for deciding which party will control the Senate in 2021.

2008 Results - Then-Senator Barack Obama received 47.11% of the Montana vote running for President to Bullock’s 52.6% for Attorney General. (Bullock + 5.5%).
2012 Results - President Obama received 41.7% of the Montana vote running for re-election to Bullock’s 48.9% for Governor. (Bullock + 7.2%).
2016 Results - Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received 35.75% of the Montana vote running for President to Bullock’s 50.25% for Governor (Bullock + 14.50%).
