Hi, I’m Maryam Taheri. I’m an entrepreneur, startup advisor, and executive consultant. I have felt firsthand how our healthcare system fails families and individuals with chronic health issues, and I use my experience to empower women, entrepreneurs, and executives to identify their own strengths based on their own expertise, cultivate their unique voice, and use it to find success in their world. In my podcast, It's Fine Everyday, I talk about the things people don't talk about enough – because the road to personal growth and leadership excellence is long, and rough, and you need someone who is willing to break things down with you and get real about the realities of personal growth – and the strategies you can employ to help you on your own journey. We’ll do it together, and I’ll teach you everything I’ve learned the hard way. You’re fine, it’s fine, you’ve got this, and I’ve got you.
It’s another day and you’re thinking about being. You’re not alone. On today’s episode, Maryam talks about what it means to be a founder, what it means to have a cofounder, and how to navigate the emotional journey of founder life. She’s joined today by Nathan Parcells. Nathan is a founder turned executive coach and specializes in co-founder dynamics.
Being a founder means consistently making hard decisions with limited resources and information. It means paving a new path, and doing something no one else has done before. Startups may have a solo founder, or one or more co founders.
The relationship between co-founders, and how co-founders work together can make or break a company. Ensuring you have the right people in the right places especially in the early stages of a company’s inception is key. When cofounders have a strained relationship, it can lead to miscommunication, conflicts, and lack of critical alignment.

But, it’s not always that simple. It’s hard to let go of the expectations and desires that we have around our family. We all so desperately want that perfect family dynamic, but it’s not so simple.

Dr. Carinia is a clinical psychologist who specializes in trauma and personality disorders. On today’s episode she talks about immature versus mature mothers and how the behaviors we experience during our formative years impact every aspect of our adult lives.
We all want to have a no strings attached type of relationship with our moms. We all want to be close to our moms, but it’s not always that simple. It’s hard to figure out and navigate how to have a loving and healthy relationship with our mothers. Most of us just want a loving and autonomous relationship. The problem is that immature mothers struggle with their capacity for unconditional love. Instead, the love you experience from your mom may be conditional.

Tune in today for a brand new episode of ‘It’s Fine Everyday with Maryam Taheri’. On today’s episode, I never used to put these 5 things in my disaster kit,Maryam talks about disaster preparedness for the real world.
It’s September and so it’s National Preparedness Month, but this year we’re re-thinking preparedness. Preparedness is more than just making sure you have enough water, a generator and stale snack bars. Preparedness for real disasters actually looks completely different.
In today’s episode, Maryam covers the importance of re-thinking emergency and disaster preparedness and viewing it from a holistic approach. At the end of the day, there is only so much you can do to prepare for disasters. There is no guarantee of what supplies you’ll have, if you have access to them, if you have enough supplies, or really how you’re going to be doing throughout that situation. In the world we’ve been living in for the past few years, it’s felt like there’s just one disaster after the next. It’s easy to get into this endless cycle of decision fatigue and burnout.

Episode Description:
Maryam Taheri talks about energy vampires on today’s episode of ‘It’s Fine Everyday,’ and the proactive things you can do to prevent them from draining your energy.
In today’s episode you’ll hear me about what to do when you find yourself saying "I just feel so drained after spending time with that person.” Energy vampires do exist, and they’re the people who might be in your life who after spending time with them you just feel completely spent. This usually happens because they’re toxic, you have to walk on eggshells around them, or you can’t be authentic around them.
Think of it as someone conciously or not sucking away your life force. We can do everything in the world to raise our vibration and level of conciousness, and prepare for spending time with these people and still fall victim to their behavior.
When you’re around someone who needs your nonstop attention, the conversation is always about them, they’re negative about everything and life, they’re judgemental, they’re manipulative, or they’re a narcissit - you may be dealing with an energy vampire. You’ll know if you just completely feel sucked dry after being around them.

Episode Title: Are you putting in too much effort into people and relationships?
In today’s episode we’re going to be talking about effort in relationships. Every relationship, no matter whether it’s one with a friend, family, significant other, or colleague requires work and effort. You may not realize it, but any time you spend time with anyone in your life or do something with or for them, in some way you’re putting in effort.
This could be mental energy, emotional energy or physical energy. But, you’re doing something to show up for that person in some way. Today, I’ll be talking about the unconcious and concious ways we put effort into people and relationships. I’ll dive into why our brains work this way and sometimes cling to or chase relationships.
I’ll also talk about the feelings of putting in too much effort or not putting in enough effort into relationships and how that can make you and them feel a specific way. Relationships and people are complicated, and they are because we care so much. I won’t be talking about the times where in the heat of the moment we say “I hate so and so.” Those are the times where we have surface level feelings. Today, I want to speak about the times where we have intense anger or hatred toward a person or situation. The kind that results in ruminating, consuming your mental energy, and resulting in a negative mindset for you.

We've all had those times where we've given away our mental energy and power. Maybe there's a topic or a certain situation or person that we're particularly frustrated by. So, we spend a lot of time thinking about it, we vent about it to our friends, we journal about it constantly.
When we put our mind toward negative thoughts and emotions, that creates our internal energy. We then attract those things into the world, we create what we think and we attract what we feel.
We're all constantly just doing the best we can, and then we stop thinking about the thing or the issue that's been bothering us. We're so proud of ourselves for doing the work and making progress, but then...it comes back and we find ourselves caught in the mind trap again. It's completely normal. And, that's the topic of today's podcast, why we fall back into these mind traps and what you can do about it.

Whether you’re a new manager, you’ve managed one person, a few people, or teams, developing effective 1:1 skills is so important. 1:1s are a huge opportunity. When you don’t use 1:1 time with your manager or your direct reports, they can be a waste of time and leave more questions than answers. A lot of the time people have 1:1s because they just think they have to. They think ok we need this time to check in on projects and where things are going. Usually, they don’t last very long either.
In today's episode I'll cover some tips and tricks for effective 1:1s with your direct reports.

In today’s episode, I’ll be talking about life over 30. In fact, I’m currently 32, and while I have 2 dogs and I’m a dog mom, I’m not a parent. I’m not married either. It’s a time in life where it’s incredibly easy to go down the rabbit hole of “why am I not here,” “or why haven’t I done x,y,z” things in my life.
They say your 30s are your best years, and so far I’d have to agree. So, today this episode talks about the emotional highs and lows I’ve gone through as a women, founder, entrepreneur with being over 30, not married, and no kids.
Because I’d like to flip the script. Instead of defining myself that way, I want to empower myself. I’m over 30. A founder. A total badass. I know myself. I am me. I’m exactly where I’m meant to be and I’m excited about the journey that is ahead and not the destination.

I learn a lot from my dogs on a daily basis. Almost every day I think about what life would be like if we were all more like dogs and babies. Dogs and babies.
In today’s episode, I’ll be talking about reactivity. Every one of us is reactive to something. We let someone or something push our buttons. I know it’s more common to say “ they pushed my buttons,” but at the end of the day they’re our buttons, so we’ll get to that too.
We’re going to talk about the lessons in reactivity that I’ve learned from my dogs and how everything takes practice, but we ultimately all have control over our buttons.

“Why does this always happen to me,” “I can’t believe she said that to me,” “I hate the cellulite on my thighs,” “Why don’t I make more money.” While these statements may seem harmless, think about the energy that you’re putting out into the world every time you say them. Think about how easy it is to get into the continuous cycle of negative statements.
You may not even realize you’re doing it, but think about your week this week. How did you describe all of the things that happened. Were they hard? Tiring? Exhausting? Emotional? Draining? Too much to handle? Did you make mistakes? Did you say ‘I could’ve done better,”? Did you find yourself saying, things were just chaos or you couldn’t get out from under you.
While those things may just seem run-of-the-mill, or normal to say. They’re impacting you, and your life far more than you could even imagine.
On this podcast episode, I’m talking about how easy it is to slip into negative talk whether it’s in your personal life, at work, about yourself, or even when you don’t realize it. We’ll talk about ways to pull yourself out of it, positive reminders, and shifting your mindset to a more neutral, open, or even positive mindset.

So why is everyone so obsessed with astrology? It’s everywhere on social media. It’s on tik tok, and dating apps. It’s everywhere in our daily lives. Honestly, it makes complete and total sense that we’re all a little bit crazy for astrology. The things that have happened in the last few years, have been unpredictable. We’ve experienced a century of events in a single year and called it normal. And when the world doesn’t make sense, and we can’t understand it, we look at everything and all possibilities to have a deeper understanding and make sense of it all.
In today's episode, I'll dive into my personal obsession with Astrology, and delve a little deeper into the reason we're all a little obsessed.

Have you ever been on Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok? Well, the things that you most often see are highly curated. They’re the things that people want you to see, they’re the things that have been edited and carefully selected. I like to think of most of social media as the highlight reel. The place where we put our best moments, the things we’re emotional about, the things that we want others to know, and sometimes we post specific things so specific people will see them.
The highlight reel, is what you show the public and other people about your life. About your experiences. It’s both the ups and downs and snapshots of moments in your life. It’s the things you want people to see, it’s the things you want people to feel and experience, it’s also a way to show people what you want. Most people say the highlight reel is showing the best moments of life, I actually don’t think that. I think it’s curated moments. Moments that highlight our biggest weaknesses, insecurities, fears, and show the parts of us we want others to see to elicit a specific response or outcome.
The highlight reel is never the whole story.
Today we'll talk about the reality of the highlight reel, and really dive into the reasons we post on social media. After today's episode, you'll start to see the highlight reel from a different perspective and consider how you can show up authentically to the world.

In today’s episode, I’ll be talking about what it means to close a chapter in your life. This could be a specific time period, something around a specific person or event, and everything in between. Not all chapters in life look the same, not every book is organized the same way either, and sometimes books end and entirely new books emerge from the ashes.
Every chapter in your story, can look however you want it. Your story can look however you want it to look. It can be long with many volumes, a triology maybe, or maybe it branches off into a new genre entirely.
With the end of 2021 behind us, and the start of 2022 just beginning it feels like the perfect time to talk about closing chapters in life. The start of a new year, is a natural marker for change. I don’t necessarily love or hate that. I think the way we organize time, in months and days, makes it easier for us to set our goals around. But, frankly, life doesn’t actually work like that. Life isn’t just looking at you saying “hey you know what it’s the end of this calendar year that we observe here in this country so you know what, I’m doing all of these things to you in your life,” or that things happen according to an annual calendar. Things just happen in life, and it’s easy to encapsulate them in an annual calendar.
So, let’s look at closing a chapter in life as closing a mindset, time period, or version of yourself and moving on to whatever incredible thing is that’s next for you. We’ll talk about what it means to make the shift and close one chapter, how that can be incredible and painful at the same time, and we’ll also discuss starting the next chapter of your story.

What do you spend most of your time thinking about? Where are you spending your mental energy and brain power? How is it serving you?
Energy is the capacity to do work, and mental energy is specifically the capacity that we all have or do not have to do the mental work. Like anything, whether it’s a battery and refrigerator, or anything that requires a power source. Your brain also requires fuel and a power source in order to work effectively.
So when you have high mental energy, feel energized, and capable of taking on a multitude of different things. You feel like yourself, you’re able to show up and respond, not reacting. When you feel drained and your mental energy is low, you may be unable to manage everything that you need in order to do necessary mental work.
It’s pretty simple, the phrase goes - “You are what you eat.” It’s literally true, the things you put into your body, fuel and help shape your body into who you are. I also like to say the following: “You are what you say you are,” meaning the words you say, how you talk to other people, how you talk about other people, how you talk about yourself all transforms who you are. Similarly, you are who you think you are.
So, with those things in mind, the things that you talk about, the things that you think about, they turn into who you are. So, when you spend your time and mental energy in certain areas - what happens? It impacts who you are, how you see the world, and how you engage in life’s experience.
Today, we’re going to be talking about what we spend our mental time and energy on, how that impacts us, and how that impacts all of our interactions in life.

We’ve all heard the phrase “you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with,” but how true is that and how does that really show up in your life?
Today, we’re exploring the reasons we choose to surround ourselves with certain types of people and how that impacts us emotionally, mentally, and physically. This pertains to multiple areas of your life. Who do you surround yourself with at work? Who do you surround yourself with in your personal life? All of those items are factors in how you show up, how you experience the world, how you feel, and how you approach life.
So, the real question is - what is the life you want and how do you want to show up? Then, how are the people in the different areas of your life adding value, helping push you toward your goal, holding you back or toxic to the life you want?

In today’s episode we’re talking about the concept of assuming positive intent in the workplace. When you assume positive intent, it helps you shift your mindset in the way that you approach all conversations, problems, and interactions.
Each and every person on your team, every person you work with, and everyone at your company plays a role in the company culture and mindset. This tone and mindset tends to start at the top and snowball down to every area of the company. So, if there is negativity or a “we can’t do this” attitude at the top, other people will feel and embody that tone.
Negativity is a choice, and so is having a negative or even hostile and angry reaction to the things that happen at work. You have a choice. You get to choose how you respond to everything that happens in the workplace. When you choose to assume positive intent and exhibit positive and neutral energy, that plays a role in workplace culture and tone. It’s no different than when you smile at someone and they smile back. Or, when you help de-escalate a situation instead of intensifying it.
Today we’re going to talk about why it’s so important to assume positive intent, how to reframe situations and conversations, and ways you can take a step toward helping shape things that work in a different light.

Today we’re talking about the importance of giving thanks, and shifting your mindset during the holidays. Why? Well, when you regularly express gratitude, you tend to be happier and less stressed. This happens because gratitude opens doors, ups your empathy, helps you notice the good in life, and can actually change your mindset.
We all know that the holidays can be incredibly stressful personally and professionally. We all know that Harvest is meant to be a time of being thankful, appreciating family, and giving back. But, sometimes family dynamics, work deadlines, and everything in between. There can be multiple triggers, uncomfortable moments, and shitty situations.
Today, we’re going to talk about why we get stressed, sad and depressed during the holidays, and how that impacts our personal and work lives. We’re going to dive into how to shift our mindset and practice gratitude. There can be so many expectations during this time, and that in and of itself feels, well uncomfortable and hard.

You’re going to want to show up in a different way depending on the needs and circumstances of the role you’re in.
So, how do you want to show up? How do you want to move through each of your work days? What do you want to feel at the end of the day?

Episode 5: What would it look like to have more confidence at work? It's Fine Everyday with Maryam Taheri
Confidence is a tricky subject. Why? Because, oftentimes I think we call a lot of things “confidence,” when in fact we’re talking about something else entirely. I’m talking about confidence today because this is a topic I get asked about a lot as a female founder. One of the other big reasons for this podcast, is the ongoing trends and conversations happening about “main character energy.”
So, today, I want to address the topic of confidence and how you show up at work.

Episode 4: How to Prepare for the WorkdayIt's Fine Everyday with Maryam Taheri
In today’s episode we’re talking about the difference between strategic leadership and reactive leadership. Sometimes we say it's reacting versus responding, proactive versus reactive, but we’re talking about the same thing.
Strategic leadership is when you can take a step back, look at all of the moving pieces of what’s going on, make a plan, lead, and successfully use the right people in the right places to prioritize the needs of the company or team. It’s the process of looking at the resources you have, the problems you have, and finding the smartest, not necessarily the fastest or easiest solution.
When you’re reactive, and making tactical and in the moment decisions they usually have a specific purpose and a more limited scope. You’re trying to solve a problem. You’re really in the weeds.
So, while there are so many leadership and coaching styles, today we’re going to focus on proactive + reactive forms of leadership.

Episode 3: Things That Happened to Maryam: The Mud MarchIt's Fine Everyday with Maryam Taheri
Today’s episode is part of a series I’m doing where I share things that happen to me, and happen to all of us in everyday life. I’ll be telling the story of how my morning routine went astray and the day didn’t start as expected.
Routines for me help set me up for success for the day, they’re the thing that really helps me get what I need to get done so that I can go through the day effectively. But, over the years I’ve become flexible in my routines. I have them, but I also intuitively listen to myself and adapt and change those routines based on how I’m doing. Sometimes, the thing that derails your routine, or my routine in this case, isn’t even you.

Episode 2: 5 Lessons I’ve Learned as a Startup Founder + LeaderIt's Fine Everyday with Maryam Taheri
In today’s episode, I’ll be talking about my experiences in startup life. I won’t be able to cover everything about startups and my startup experiences, but today I want to focus on the key lessons I’ve learned being a leader and startup founder. It’s different when you’re in a position of leadership. It’s different when people look to you for answers, it’s different when people depend on you, and it’s different when each day you have to make decisions that will dramatically impact the lives of other people.
Every day at a startup you’ll learn so much. I can’t even begin to tell you what you’ll learn first, but what I can tell you is - take care of yourself and do the best you can to set yourself up for success. Right now, you’re in the exact place you need to be.

Episode 1: How to Prepare for the WorkdayIt's Fine Everyday with maryam Taheri
In today’s episode, I’m talking about how to set yourself up to go into each workday feeling like yourself and ready to take on the day as well as possible. When you set yourself up for success, you feel better, you’re showing up for yourself. You’re taking a proactive approach to your life and your work week.
Maybe you want to set yourself up for each day at work, maybe you have a big project you’re not excited about, maybe there are struggles with your family, or you’re going through something difficult.
