When a conscience is alive, the offender is humble, quick to admit a  fault and ask for forgiveness. But when it is dead, there’s no  realization of a wrongdoing. The Bible describes it as “having their own conscience seared with a hot iron” (1 Timothy 4:2).

While we cannot exactly explain the mystery of salvation, we can live in  its reality when we believe that Jesus died on the cross of Calvary to  restore us back into sweet fellowship with God, the Father.

Our natural instinct when we sin is to hide (like Adam and Eve) or cover  up and move on like nothing happened (like King David). But when we  hold on to the guilt, shame, pain, and agony of unconfessed sin, we get  farther away from God and deprive ourselves of the joy of forgiveness.

Sometimes, we have a need and pray to God, expecting an answer.  Sometimes, the answers don’t come as soon as we would want them. But we  can be sure that God is working out things for our good. Good intentions cannot deal with the root of this struggle. The root is  sin, and only the power in the blood of Jesus is strong enough to deal  with it (1 John 1:7). “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and  just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is  not in us” (1 John 1:9, 10).
