Thanks for listening to our last episode about James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits. This book has really helped us learn new tools to make new habits “Atomic.” One tool is to make the new habit super small and desirable using the 4th law, making new habits satisfying. If its fun and satisfying we are more likely to keep going and practice this new habit again and again each day.

Today we are talking about making new habits attractive as we continue to share what we are learning from James Clear’s book Atomic Habits. If you want to create new habits, make them attractive to you so you choose to do it by combining a need to a want such as the need to do the dishes and I want to watch a show. We can make dishes more attractive and we choose to watch a show while doing the dishes.

Welcome friends! Today we are jumping back into our conversation about our featured book Building a Resilient Life by Rebekah Lyons. Let’s get crazy and call anxiety a friend! What? Don’t we need to run away from anxiety, not towards it? Today we discuss this huge perspective shift that anxiety could actually be helpful to us. What if we took the time to listen to anxiety and what it is trying to tell us about what we are feeling and experiencing? So then with this information from our new friend we could change our pattern and move into freedom not the crazy circle.

Hello! So glad you are here to join us in our continued conversation and discussion of Rebekah Lyons’ book “Building a Resilient Life.” This episode is full of different Bible verses that keep coming to our minds as we both share about what we are learning in this season. We are happy that God uses so many situations and experiences to speak, whether it's what book we are reading, a conversation with a friend, songs we hear.
This episode is an honest conversation with each other about what God has been teaching us about community and confession so we can hear His truth. Through friendship and tears we again hear God speaking into our lives in real time. Thanks for joining us in our journey. We hope you are encouraged by what God is speaking to you personally today. Today is the start of our new featured book. “Building a Resilient Life - how adversity awakens strength, hope and meaning” Written by Rebekah Lyons
In today’s episode we chat about different seasons of adversity in our life that made us stronger even though the situations were challenging. We also share about others in our lives that are examples of resilient friends that inspire us to keep going.
We all face different seasons of adversity; some can include self-doubt, physical injuries/illness, rejection, poverty, loss of a loved one and struggling to succeed in a chosen career.
We hope today’s episode helps you walk through the challenges you might be facing right now. Our heart was very encouraged by Psalm 30 and verse 2 stood out especially to Corrie “Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.”
Hello Friends! We are wrapping up our featured book, Find Your People, By Jennie Allen, with this question she asks the readers “What if God wants to shake up our perceptions and expectations of what community and family should look like?
We share our stories of when we were feeling at the end of our strength quickly approaching burnout and the desire to quit and leave was intense and felt like an easier choice. But we both chose to have our perception of what it means to be in community help us to listen to Jesus’ heart to live in community and to stay. Ephesians chapter 4 encourages that we will be built up in love when we stay connected to our people. Join us today to fight to stay in a relationship to choose to stay and grow and change.

Hello Friends! We are in Chapter 8, Deep -Illustration: shovel Goal: Shared purpose, Barrier: Shallow/small talk.
Our lives can become fractured and compartmentalized when we only see people in single spheres of our lives. This can lead us to loneliness and isolation. The depth of relationship develops when people see all the parts of our lives: the good and the bad. Friends with shared purpose experience greater depth and meaning together.
Find things in your life that need to be done and invite someone to do them with you!

Who is keeping you accountable? We all need friends to keep us accountable but many of us are lacking the deep friendships that function in this way. We all crave this type of relationship but live in a culture striving for independence and minding your own business. Join us as we dive in to talk about Find Your People.

Hello Friends! We are in Chapter 6, Safe today with the illustration of
OPEN DOORS Goal: transparency Barrier: Pain/shame
This was a challenging chapter to read and to record, putting ourselves out there to practice being vulnerable about past friendship hurts and the fear of trying again and again. We take down some walls brick by brick to reveal our struggles and pain of being a friend and being truly known and loved. This chapter helps better equip us to find the balance of matching another person's level of transparency in a friendship. This can feel tricky sometimes, but with Jesus’ help we can learn and grow and develop deep and meaningful realtionships.

Hello Friends!
Do you feel awkward at making friends? You are in good company. Today’s episode we shared how our friendship felt quite awkward at the beginning, but we kept pursuing each other and built a beautiful friendship. There is hope on the other side of awkward beginnings.
Jennie Allen encourages us in chapter 5 of her book Find Your People,
Close FIRE Goal: proximity Barrier: Business
1) Notice who is already right in front of you. Who are the people you see at church, in your neighborhood, at work, school… who is around us in our everyday life.
2) Put yourself out there and let’s be intentional about who we would like to get to know more. Who could we initiate a coffee date, a walk, or a text message? We will never have friends unless you are willing to consistently initiate. This is not a small challenge, and as we discuss today it feels exhausting to feel like the only one who is initiating connection.
3)Start Great conversations, we can learn to ask more intentional questions that move beyond the daily to do’s and schedules. We can get a little deeper with questions about how we feel about this or that?
Thanks for joining us today!

Hello Friends! Welcome back to our conversation of our featured book “ “Find Your People.”
Chapter 4, Find your People, is our topic of discussion. The necessary ingredients to build healthy friendships are A) availability- say yes friend, B) Humility- being able to say the hard things, and C) transparency- not hiding being open and honest. Our village of friends is full of people who need us and who we need in our life. Relationships will not be perfect, we will let others down and others will let us down. God can hold our expectations!

Hello Friends! What if we believed we were a valued friend and we have something to bring to each friendship we have? What if we had a vision for something more? We talk about just that in this episode. What if we focused on building a village of friends instead of one best friend forever, to fill all of our relationship needs? We need community and we can all benefit from a group of friends that can enrich our life and we can also encourage others. Our featured book is, Find Your People by Jennie Allen.

Do you long for deeper friendships? Come with us on our journey learning more about friendship with today's conversation about our featured book, Find Your People by Jennie Allen. Today’s episode we are talking about Ch 2 The connection we crave. ( You will even hear the sweetest lil voice of Tess’ daughter throughout the episode! )
We function best in friendships when we are grounded first in our faith in a perfect God. He helps us to have the confidence to be vulnerable and make new friends, and to deepen existing friendships. We have a unique opportunity to share life together and to encourage each other in normal everyday situations. Sometimes that looks like lending a car to a friend because theirs is in the shop. Or being brave and asking neighbors to join a book club, but either way are connecting us to our people. Friendships won't be perfect, but they are worth building.

Hello Friends! We have a new featured book Find Your People by Jennie Allen. We need people to help us make a lovely place for friendships with a space for love, learning and laughter. Join us for this journey to Find Our People.
God’s plan for people is community. Let’s try to continue to connect despite the hurdles in life. We can seek and find authentic friendships to do life together in the up’s and down’s, of our struggles, and joy. The big idea is we need a variety of relationships: inner circle 2-3 people, a village 15 people, and acquaintances 50 people.

Hello Friends! This is our last episode on our featured book, Famous at Home! We close out our time together by talking about decision 7: Set Values. We also touch on family mission. Join us today as we ponder what it means to discover our family values and be intentional to live them out in our day to day. We’re so glad that you have joined us for this inspiring, challenging, and encouraging book and we hope that you know God has given you all you need to be famous at home in your family!

Josh and Christi do such a great job in these chapters of encouraging us to be intentional about play, rest, and loving our families well. Presence in our children’s lives isn’t about big gestures but little moments of seeking them out and letting them direct our activities. In those moments we get glimpses of who God created them to be. We also reflect on the importance of rest and rhythm as ways that we mimic the actions and character of God. We hope you are encouraged by this discussion today!

We discuss what is the biggest pain point in our life right now and how we can make changes to change our mindset around that pain point.
The second decision is How We Can Change Our Atmosphere - how to cultivate a life-giving environment.
The example of an airplane changing its trajectory by making small adjustments over time. We too can make small changes to impact our family for good. Change can start with our words; they are powerful and impact each family member. It only takes a small shift each day to change the atmosphere in our homes!

Hello Friends! Today we are discussing Ch 8 of Famous at Home, Who are you Becoming? Why parenting is the wrong term.
Today we talk about becoming… a different perspective on how we can approach our kids and our spouse. Do we get stuck in the rut of parenting by changing the behaviors of others instead of putting our energy towards becoming who God created us to be? A successful parent learns to manage their own stress before trying to manage anyone else’s. Being a parent is hard, but God has given us the tools we need to grow and be the people we want our kids to grow up to be!
