In February of this year, Happy Someday's turned 4 years old - Can you believe that?!

In the space of 4 years, this incentive has grown and grown to become a much needed safe space for people in the local community to come and express themselves through sport and socialisation without any stigma or judgement attached. We have always said that anyone is welcome no matter your age, gender, ability, skill or fitness level. It is something we pride ourselves on and have stuck to throughout our journey from humble beginnings with a tiny session on an 8-a-side pitch right through to now with our various different sessions, on which we will explore and explain within this episode.

Joe Farrar, co-founder of Happy Somedays, joins me as we take a bit of a look back, with a focus in particular on the last year, as 2023 was our biggest yet! Hear how we have offered more sessions than ever across different sports and fitness facilities, as well as offering walks, social events, fundraisers and opportunities to get involved with the local community.

We are now 4 years down, but we hope to have many, many more to go! Here's to Happy Somedays!

In Episode 19 Of the Happy Someday's Podcast, we once again look within our very own network of unique participants to chat to Daniel Timmins.

Daniel has been involved with Happy Somedays for only a few months, but has immersed himself into the ethos and has ensured it has felt like he's always been around! He was introduced to us by our very own Hayden (Who you can hear from in Episode 3) and after initially feeling a bit anxious and worried about how he would be accepted, he is now very much enjoying coming along to all aspects of our incentive.

Daniel had other reasons to be anxious, as he also has Autism and Asperger's which can make socialising and speaking to others difficult. Here, he explains how he has navigated through life with the condition both pre and post diagnosis at the age of 19.

Daniel asked us to do this to raise awareness of the condition, much like Daniel Laing did way back in Episode 4. It's so rewarding to be able to give our participants a platform for them to share their real life, lived experiences.

Josh has had a very eclectic life full of challenges which he will detail in both parts of this double header (It was a LONG chat!) Wythenshawe: A small town with a big football presence. We are blessed that there are so many local sides and incentives such as ours giving boys, girls, men and women a chance at grassroots level to get involved with the beautiful game. Recently, the men's sides at our semi-professional teams, Wythenshawe Town and Wythenshawe Amateurs (Now just Wythenshawe FC) were both promoted last season, too. It's a great time to be a fan and advocate of local football. The latter club, Wythenshawe FC, have had a revamp of sorts over the summer with a new chair in place in the shape of Sacha Lord, night time economy advisor for Greater Manchester. Sacha and the board at Wythenshawe FC have big plans for the club, and as part of this, investment and development of the women's team was high on the agenda. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, a change in management was needed, and so they sourced a local lad who was more than willing to guide Wythenshawe FC towards success: James Mulvihill.Fresh from winning a league and cup double with FC United of Manchester, James joined the same time Sacha came on board and has quickly gotten to work making the women's team a force to be reckoned with. At the time of recording, the team was 6 wins from 6 in the league and had just won in the women's FA Cup 8-4...after being 3-0 down inside just 14 minutes! It hasn't all been plain sailing, though, as James explains within this episode. He chats to us about his new position, the teams amazing start to the season, how the club as a whole are giving back to the local community and the plans he and the board have to take the team forwards towards the ultimate goal of competing in the WSL.A big thanks to James for taking time out to record this, as well as all at Wythenshawe FC for their hospitality in letting us use the clubhouse to record this episode inIf you'd like to be part of Happy Somedays in any way or if you'd like to know more about the sort of sessions we hold - including Men's and Women's football sessions, fitness classes, running, hiking or you just want to make new connections and lasting friendships, let us know and get in touch! The Happy Somedays Podcast has always been about letting people with real stories have a platform and a voice they otherwise wouldn't have to raise awareness of issues and causes close to their hearts. In this episode, our next guest, Kelly Jones, reached out herself a asking if she could do just that.

Kelly unfortunately has lived experience of baby loss - Not just once, but twice - and she requested some time to sit with us and discuss how it has affected her, as well as highlighting some of the amazing people and organisations that helped her at her lowest point. Each year, October 9th - 15th is known globally as Baby Loss Awareness Week. Across the week and beyond, people who have unfortunately experienced baby loss come together to show support, talk and raise awareness of a subject which is difficult to tackle, but nevertheless so important to highlight. Happy Somedays is proud to support the awareness week and go #PinkandBlue for Baby Loss Awareness.

A big thank you to Kelly for showing incredible strength throughout this episode and in general for wanting to break down barriers and talk about her experiences.

If you or someone you know has been affected by the issues that will be raised in the episode, please remember that you are not alone. You can gather support and further information at Tommy's, Sands, the stillbirth & neonatal death charity and Miscarriage Association. Kelly is also raising money for Sands and has raised an incredible amount so far but always wants to raise more! If you can spare any amount, big or small, please donate to: https://fundraising.sands.org.uk/fundraisers/kellyjones3912?fbclid=IwAR01WNoS7QYRmVPnoYurnfA6GoAwfgrAk_vB-UuZabFd0o3UpzHqep6V3QM

In this episode of The Happy Somedays Podcast, we once again welcome one of our own. A keen participant of our sessions and someone always wanting to help, this person is always encouraging, motivating and inspiring. He is the current holder of our "Living the Ethos" award and it is for all of those reasons and more. It's a pleasure to welcome Jordan Pye to the podcast. TRIGGER WARNING - This episode contains themes of negative Mental Health, anxiety, depression and descriptions of suicide attempts. Jordan has been involved with us for a while now and in that time he has really bought into what we stand for as an incentive and very much become part of the Happy Somedays family, ensuring that everyone feels involved, is encouraged and feels part of everything that we do. This is despite his own struggles with depression, bipolar, suicide attempts and anxiety. Jordan has never spoken about these issues to anyone before, so for him to be so open and honest with me was a real privilege and something I do not take for granted. Jordan was inspired to come on the Podcast after listening to the episode we had with Lucy Abbott who participates in our women's sessions. He realised after listening that he is not alone and felt ready to talk about his own struggles in the hope that it will help others. That's what this podcast is all about. If one person takes something away from them, then that's our job done. Please remember that help is always out there if you need it. Welcome to Episode Thirteen of The Happy Somedays Podcast.

TW - This episode contains themes of negative Mental Health, anxiety, depression and suicide.

The guest for this episode is award winning comedian, actor, writer, teacher and presenter Tom Short.

Tom has been a mainstay on the comedy circuit since 2011, starting out seriously after being part of the first intake on the Comedy Practices degree at Salford University. Since then, he has had ups and downs with his career that he will talk openly and honestly about in this episode, for reasons he felt beyond his control. This was until he learnt that his comedy could actually help him through his mental health struggles as opposed to hinder them. Since then, he has dedicated most of his time and efforts into writing and performing, as well as exploring the links between comedy and mental health, with some fascinating finds along the way.

Tom is going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August (from 3rd-27th with performances every day except 14th) with his new show "The Stand-Up Horror Show" which will push the boundaries of what audiences can expect from a show that isn't of the mainstream. If you are going to the Festival, you can find him in The Caves at 7pm each night, with tickets priced at £5

Throughout this episode, Tom details all of the opportunities Comedy has opened up for him and explains some of the great (and not so great!) Gigs and shows he has had, with hilarious results. Tom also details his further studies and tells us about his very own Podcast he hosts called "Talking Trubbish" which is all about Pokèmon!

Thanks again to Tom for sharing his story with us.

You can find Tom's comedy goings on at his "Hot Storm Productions" Comedy Page on all the socials - Hot Storm Productions on Facebook, @HotStormEnt on Twitter and @hotstormproductions on Instagram. Welcome to Episode Thirteen of The Happy Somedays Podcast.

TW - This episode contains themes of negative Mental Health, Suicide and Self Harm

As we've always said here at Happy Somedays, using this platform to showcase real people with real stories is an honour. We are proud to support people in any way we can in terms of creating a positive space to improve either physically or mentally. One person who has done this over the last year and is incredibly vocal about how much our sessions have helped her is our next Podcast guest - Lucy Abbott.

In the episode, you'll hear how it took all of her courage to battle the anxiety of coming to a session for the first time, but ever since doing so she hasn't looked back. Lucy is one of our most active participants and is always encouraging others. She is also really open and honest about her journey to wellbeing and holds nothing back in this chat. It can be quite an upsetting and triggering conversation, so please only listen if you feel comfortable hearing about the subjects listed above, but it's one that I think will help and maybe even save a lot of people who will listen to it. As we closed #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth this was something I wanted to highlight and Lucy has done an incredible job here.

Thanks again to Lucy for sharing her story with us.

You can find her craft page on Instagram @CraftyFloris and follow the adventures of her two dogs on @Billington_the_Boxer_dog and his friend @Mrbobbybigears. Welcome to Episode Twelve of The Happy Somedays Podcast.PLEASE NOTE - THIS EPISODE HAS A SENSITIVE AND TRIGGERING CONTENT WARNING. Please read below and only listen if you feel you will be comfortable with someone talking about death and the loss of a child. When we started these podcasts up, well over a year ago now, the biggest thing we wanted was to use them as a way of giving people a chance to tell their stories and to showcase the amazing and unique people we encounter not just within our own Happy Somedays incentives, but with other ones out there too. Last week, we stuck a shout out for new guests for the podcast as we wanted to fill the diary up and get more out there. Within minutes, we received a message from Jenny Gunther, who I am delighted to say is our next guest on the Happy Somedays Podcast. Jenny wanted to come on to raise awareness of Epilepsy. The national day of Epilepsy Awareness is this Sunday (Purple Day for Epilepsy) so she thought the timing was right for it to dispel some common misconceptions and explain how Epilepsy has affected her and her family. She explained to me that the reason it resonates with her so much is because her daughter had it and unfortunately passed away due to having a seizure in the bath and drowned. Honestly, we were unsure how we'd handle and discuss such a sensitive subject, but Jenny spoke so well and with such courage. It's a harrowing and heartbreaking listen but a very important one. If you have been affected by the death of a child or loved one and are struggling with the grief, please know there is help out there:Child Bereavement UK - https://www.childbereavementuk.org/Greater Manchester Berevement Service - https://greater-manchester-bereavement-service.org.uk/NHS Mental Health Services - https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/mental-health-services/If you would like more information on Epilepsy Awareness and Purple Day, please visit:Epilepsy Society - https://epilepsysociety.org.uk/Epilepsy Action - https://www.epilepsy.org.uk/SUDEP (Sudden Death From Epilepsy) Action - https://sudep.org/You can also read Jenny's blog, which kept regarding the death of Lauryn here:https://lifeafterlauryn.wordpress.com/Thank you to Jenny for asking to be involved. Welcome to Episode Ten of the Happy Somedays Podcast - The first episode of 2023!

We aim to keep bringing you these Podcasts across the year and beyond, and the first guest of the year is someone who myself and a lot of my friends will have a pretty personal connection with. It has been an honour and a privilege to speak to my former teacher and head of year, Mr. Terry Milligan on the Happy Somedays Podcast.

In this episode, we will chat about teaching (Of course) but also abut Terry's eclectic life before getting to a classroom. For those that don't or didn't know him, it'll be a fascinating insight into walking away from professional football to pursue a different passion in comedy and scriptwriting. If anyone has a general interest in teaching, it'll be a great insight into the alternative route he took and being thrown into the deep end 2 years in to become a head of year.

As always, if you'd like to get involved in a future episode, if you have any questions you'd like to ask guests, or if you'd like to know more about the sort of sessions we hold - including Men's and Women's football sessions, fitness classes, running, hiking or you just want to make new connections and lasting friendships, let us know and get in touch! 2022 was a massive year for Happy Somedays and launching the Podcast has been an honour and a pleasure to be part of. This "look back" on 2022 goes over some of the best parts of each podcast, and highlights not only the incredible effort our participants and organisers put into making our sessions happen, but the network that we have managed to build simply from existing within the community.

Welcome to Episode Eight of the Happy Somedays Podcast

In this episode, we finally give our fantastic Ladies Team a spotlight to tell the world all about the amazing work they are doing in giving girls in the local area a chance and a space to play football in a welcoming and supportive environment.

In just under 18 months, the Ladies team has gone from strength to strength, and to give us a little overview of this, we have brought along co-founders of the team, Kirsty Carroll and Farah Hussain, to let them tell the story of it's formation; the impact it is having on the local community; the inclusiveness and togetherness of the team; and the opportunities they hope the team will create for more young girls in the area wanting to play football.

Welcome to Episode Seven of the Official Happy Somedays Podcast!

In this episode, host Josh Deegan talks to a former professional footballer with over 400 appearances in the Football League as a Centre Back for clubs such as Stockport County, Scunthorpe United, Oxford United, Carlisle United, and Crewe Alexandra. It is a pleasure to welcome Michael Raynes to the podcast.

In a wide ranging chat, Michael takes us through his career from Grassroots all the way through to playing in the EFL Championship for Scunthorpe United; the role his community played in making him the player he was; and how it was for him mentally making the jump from playing with his mates on a Sunday afternoon to suddenly being amongst professionals who had won trophies and played at the highest level.

Michael also talks us through a players perspective of a transfer on deadline day (Which is fascinating!) as well as telling us all about life after hanging up the boots playing and moving into coaching and using football as an education tool.

Welcome to Episode Six - Part II - of the Official Happy Somedays Podcast!

Here we are continuing the chat with Actor, Voiceover Artist, Podcaster and all round good guy, Andrew Ellis.

Andrew is a friend of Happy Somedays and can often be found at our sessions in between filming. He absolutely loves what we do, so after we got a few episodes into this Podcast we gave him a call and said "Fancy coming on?" and luckily he said yes.

You'll know him best as Gadget in the This Is England film and subsequent TV Series, and we of course talk a lot about that (And whether it'll ever come back...), but we have also timed this podcast nicely, as Andrew has just finished starring in a brilliant ITV drama called "The Walk In", alongside his This Is England co-star Stephen Graham. We chat more about this in Part II which will be coming next week, but Part I focuses on Andrew's first experiences of acting, getting the part of Gadget and fitting it in around school, and how his own life is reflected in the characters he has been lucky enough to play.

We chat more about The Walk In during Part 2, as well as Andrew's own involvement with Happy Somedays and it's community. I'd like to personally thank Andrew for being such a great guest, and for making Part 1 our most listened to Podcast yet! Hopefully Part 2 can beat it...

Be sure to check out This Is England on All4, and watch The Walk In over on the ITV Hub where all episodes are available for streaming. You can follow Andrew on Instagram @Andy_LP_Ellis or on Twitter @ANDYLPELLIS

Welcome to Episode Four of the Official Happy Somedays Podcast!

We've had a bit of a break at the Podcast, but we are back and hope to bring you some more episodes over the coming months.

In this episode, host Josh Deegan talks to friend of Happy Somedays, Manchester City & England fan, and a huge advocate for Women's Football, Charlotte Wilkins.

Charlotte had an unforgettable summer in 2022, as she decided to follow England's Lionesses across the country during the Women's European Championship, attending every single game and watched on at Wembley as Chloe Kelly scored to make England 2022 European Champions. It was a brilliant tournament in which Charlotte enjoyed every single minute, documenting her journey to various grounds around the country on social media as she saw the Lionesses bring Football Home.

I thought it'd be great to have Charlotte on to tell us all about her experience of the summer, what she hopes the win will mean for women's football and opportunities for young girls in the country going forwards, her own experiences of being a female wanting to play football, and how she finds it so different when attending a WSL Game compared to a men's Premier League game.

You can view Charlotte's Instagram where she documents her journeys to Women's Football Matches, as well as her involvement with the Alternative Football League and her team Newground United over at @Cwilkins8

Welcome to Episode Four of the Official Happy Somedays Podcast!

In this episode, host Josh Deegan talks to Happy Somedays Men’s Football and Fitness Class participant Daniel Laing in a very special edition recorded to mark World Autism Awareness Day

Daniel is Autistic himself and asked us a while ago if we could raise awareness of the disability through our various channels. We loved the idea, and so as well as dedicating some content on social media to highlighting Autism Awareness, we thought “Sod it – Let’s get him on the Podcast too!”

Daniel has been with us for a long time and overcomes so much to be able to play and take part in our sessions as he will explain.

Daniel will give an overview, in his own words, of what Autism means to him, how it affects him on a day to day basis, and how he finds coping with it when at sessions or in social settings, as Autistic people tend to find these difficult. Daniel comes across really well in this episode, and please do remember – sitting down with me and answering these questions was a huge thing for someone who’s brain doesn’t function like someone else’s might, as Dan will explain.

If you'd like to know more about Autism and Autism Awareness, please do check out the National Autistic Society at www.autism.org.uk.

You can also watch Dan’s speech he mentions in the podcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FB9C7k6ER1M

Welcome to Episode Three of the Official Happy Somedays Podcast!

In this episode, host Josh Deegan talks to Hayden Delbridge of HD Fitness & Wellbeing.

Hayden has been mentioned a lot in previous podcasts, as he is the instructor of Happy Somedays excellent fitness classes that we host in conjunction with his Personal Training business, HD Fitness & Wellbeing. We've been trying to get him on for a while now so he can go over this partnership himself in detail, so it was great to finally tie him down and get him on the Podcast!

Hayden has been a participant with us right from the very start, and said from the get-go that he'd love to help out in any way he could. We are so proud to have him with us helping lots of people within the community on their fitness journeys, and in this episode, Hayden will detail just what to expect from his classes and 1-2-1 sessions if you've never been or worked with him before.

We also chat about Hayden's own journey to where he is now, his struggle in coming back from a serious injury and how he used that experience to want to help others. He will tell us a little about his own fitness habits, getting inside the mind of a PT, as well as tips for beginners looking to boost their own health or fitness. This is a great episode and a genuinely fascinating insight.

If you'd like more details on our classes or Hayden's availability for 1-2-1 sessions, feel free to follow/message him @HDfitness_wellbeing on Instagram

Welcome to Episode Two of the Official Happy Somedays Podcast!

In this episode, Josh talks to the heartbeat of Happy Somedays - the person who holds the fort, brings it all together, makes things happen and... well, is just an overall good guy, and that is Joe Farrar.

Joe wanted to use his guest slot as an opportunity to give a proper "Intro to" Happy Somedays, to let people know exactly what we're about, the sessions we currently offer, projects in the pipeline and, crucially, why we do what we do. Join us as Joe takes us from Happy Somedays humble beginnings with six(!!!) people on a small 5-a-side pitch in Wythenshawe to hosting over 50 men and 16 women weekly in football sessions, four fitness sessions a week with HD Fitness (With more on the way!), a running club, hiking club and of course this very Podcast.

We also briefly chat about Joe's own love of football, including the game he would go back in time to watch, his favourite player, and - keeping in line with the question he asked Mark in episode one - his favourite ever shirt. Joe is also very honest about his own struggles with mental and physical health within this podcast and details what has helped him over the years in the hope it will help anyone listening in, too.

If you'd like to get involved in a future episode, if you have any questions you'd like to ask guests, or if you'd like to know more about the sort of sessions we hold - including Men's and Women's football sessions, fitness classes, running, hiking or you just want to make new connections and lasting friendships, let us know and get in touch! Mark has a very specific and quite astonishing goal to achieve in 2021 which he has almost reached - to run at least 5K every single day this year. We brought him on to tell us all about it, and in a wide ranging episode, we'll hear how and why he decided to do this challenge, his motivation for getting out and getting it done, as well as any tips he has for anyone who would like to take up running in the future.

We also chat about his love of football and his memories of following Manchester United, moving to Germany when he was younger, where his local side was Borussia Mönchengladbach, and why he chose to get involved with the football and fitness sessions with Happy Somedays, including hearing what it was about this project that stood out to him above all other football and fitness schemes out there.
