Above and Beyond Surviving: Recent Episodes

Gabrielle Kucko

In this podcast, the host Gabby and occasional guests discuss topics that are college-related and up to date with society. Some topics include mental health, relationships, online dating, time management, boundary-setting, etc. The bare minimum for all of us as humans is to merely survive, but we all deserve much more than that. We deserve to go Above and Beyond Surviving. We deserve to thrive.

Hi eveyone! It has been a while since I last uploaded an episode! In today's episode I catch you up with what has been happening in my life since we last talked and then move into the main topic for today which is ADHD. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and so I wanted to discuss with you all my experience of being diagnosed and what the testing entailed, my anxiety surrounding the diagnosis before and after, my experience with starting to take a stimulant, and the overall stigma that surrounds the term ADHD. I also end talking about what’s next for this podcast and my upcoming “schedule”. As always if you ever need someone to listen to you my DMs are always open! :) I hope you enjoy today's episode!!

In this episode, I start with a storytime from an uncomfortable experience at the mall and then I go into the main topic of this episode which is social media. I talk briefly about how social media has benefited me but mainly focus on how social media has affected me negatively. I discuss the concept of social media as a highlight reel and how social media has impacted my body image including how women's bodies are often objectified. I also touch on fatphobia and the Health At Every Size (HAES) movement and how I have learned to use social media in a healthier manner. I hope you all enjoy:)

In this episode, I discuss my mental health journey: where I started, the ups and downs, and where I am at now. My goal for this episode was to open up and be completely real in order to help someone else out there that may be feeling the same way. Like I said multiple times throughout this episode: you are not alone and there are resources to help you if you're struggling. My DMs are always free to message and I am always here to listen to you because you deserve to feel heard and understood. Mental health is a huge struggle for a lot of people especially in today's world yet so stigmatized, and I hope by me being completely real with you all that I destigmatize it as much as I possibly can as one human.

Timestamps where topics discussed may be triggering:

7:20-9:02 (Loss of a loved one)

10:44-12:53 (Sexual Assault)

16:31-18:45 (Using substance to cope)

31:00-32:00 (Feelings of hopelessness/worthlessness)

This is a little bit of a heavier episode but in my opinion so important. I hope you all can take something away from this and enjoy this week's episode :)
