Personality psychology is the study of individual differences in thought, emotion and behaviour. Dr. Jordan Peterson describes personality as low-resolution solutions to the highly complex problems presented before us in every day. These individual differences account for the diverse dynamics you see in family units, social circles, workplaces, government and society. In reference to the Big 5 personality model, the two traits that predict lifetime success is; openness to experience and conscientiousness.
I was reflecting on the situation in Lebanon late last night. The country is in chaos with political corruption and economic instability, perhaps the worst economy the nation has ever seen. I have heard first-hand stories of people who had their whole bank accounts seized and stolen by their corrupt government and institutions. Then I started thinking about cryptocurrency, specifically bitcoin.
Altruism is a critical component of human nature. It is built into us at our very core, and for some good reason. Humans are pack animals, and this has always been the case. We hang in groups because that’s what gives us the best chance to survive. So, how do marketers and businesses leverage this innate human trait?
The current way of doing things, where we encourage kids to memorise facts so they can get good results in tests so they can choose degrees at 18 years old is broken. An 18-year-old doesn't know about themselves enough let alone what they want out of a career. Are we making a mistake by sucking kids into committing to $50,000 university degrees at the age of 18? - Statistics suggest that 75% of people get into fields that are unrelated to the degree they did at university. Why is this? - Because kids jump into degrees not knowing exactly what they want to do. These arent cheap decisions, they are extremely costly. How about we stop placing the burden on our kids and stop selling them the 'big dream'?
