This episode we are joined by Piero Gleijeses, author of Visions of Freedom Havana, Washington, Pretoria, and the Struggle for Southern Africa, 1976-1991 (New Cold War History), to discuss the contents of his new book. Piero Gleijeses is a professor of American foreign policy at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. During the final fifteen years of the Cold War, southern Africa underwent a period of upheaval, with dramatic twists and turns in relations between the superpowers. Americans, Cubans, Soviets, and Africans fought over the future of Angola, where tens of thousands of Cuban soldiers were stationed, and over the decolonization of Namibia, Africa's last colony. Beyond lay the great prize: South Africa. Piero Gleijeses uses archival sources, particularly from the United States, South Africa, and the closed Cuban archives, to provide an unprecedented international history of this important theater of the late Cold War.

Police brutality rages on----impacting mostly people color. US imperialism kills innocent civilians (including children) at an alarming rate. During the summer of 2012 the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement put out a report that highlighted that (at least) every 36 hours a black person in the US is extra-judiciously murdered by police, security guards or self-appointed law enforcement. Despite these horrific human rights crimes being committed daily, the corporate media ignore them. We at Your World News will be hosting a national forum on our radio show this coming January 8 at 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. We are inviting the public to call in with their personal stories regarding institutional racism in America, as well as with their solutions oriented ideas. We want this radio based forum to serve as a platform to launch in to a national task force addressing these issues, led by the people and progressive grassroots organizations. We, as an engaged community, cannot afford to idly sit by while innocent people are being murdered whole sale. We must speak out, organize and demand an end to all forms institutional racism and injustice, which includes police brutality and imperialism. We must work collectively. What is the Pan-African Collective for Advocacy & Action (PACAA) and why is it needed, more than ever, in the 21st Century? The PACAA was initially created by a collection of Black/African Scholars, Activists, Community Organizers, and Academics, in an effort to discuss, deconstruct and critically analyze issues in America impacting the Black/African community. This organization is partly geared toward writing, developing and disseminating Policy Based papers focused on Collective/community based solutions and social change. Farmers from Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and elsewhere in the South will be coming to Washington next week to shine a spotlight on the refusal of the Senate to approve $1.25 billion in funding for the Black farmers' anti-discrimination lawsuit against the USDA, funds promised in February by the Obama administration and passed by the House in May. Black farmers have been denied loans and participation in other government programs for decades by the USDA and many have lost their land and been forced out of farming as a result. They won a class-action lawsuit in 1999 (Pigford v. Glickman) upholding their claims of discrimination. Today, they are fighting for additional funds in order to compensate thousands of farmers who were unjustly excluded from the first settlement. Robert Binion, 56, is a peach farmer from Clanton, Alabama, 40 miles south of Birmingham. A former president of the NAACP in his area, he has been a long-time civil rights activist. He is interim president of the Southern Black Farmers Association and has been a leader in Alabama of the Black farmers' long-standing fight against discrimination by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Chokwe Lumumba will shed an illuminating light on this case; the specifics detailing this miscarriage of “justice” as well as how we call can support the Scott Sisters’ quest for justice and freedom!Jamie and Gladys Scott have been incarcerated in Mississippi for a crime they did not commit for the last 15 years. These two sisters were convicted of taking $11.00 from two 30 plus year old men in Scott County, MS. The alleged victims admitted that Jamie and Gladys did not rob them.
Three teenagers robbed the victims of $11.00. The teenagers were arrested and confessed. They initially admitted that Jamie and Gladys had nothing to do with the offense. The County Sheriff’s office interrogated the teenage boys and told them if they did not implicate Jamie and Gladys as being involved in the planning of the robbery, they (the teenagers) would be sent to prison and “turned into females”.
Under pressure from the Scott County officials the teenagers alleged the Scott Sisters were involved in planning the robbery. The Scott Sisters went to trial and were convicted and sentenced to two life sentences by a Scott County jury. Neither of the sisters had a criminal record and no one was hurt in the robbery. The accusations against the sisters arise from a history of conflict between the Scott Sisters father, their uncle and the Scott County officials. The jury verdict was a consequence of an unfair trial and apparent jury intimidation.
Jamie Scott has now lost both of her kidneys. She needs a kidney transplant. The Mississippi Department of Corrections refuses to allow her a transplant. The press has also been prevented from interviewing Jamie and Gladys by the MDOC. Both Scott Sisters have children who have been denied the presence of their mother for the last 15 years.

Omari Musa has been active in the revolutionary movement for more than 40 years. He was a founder of the Afro-American Student Union at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a leader of the Black Socialist Club at the University of Michigan. He worked to help Black workers fight for affirmative action in the auto industry in Detroit. Musa was active in sit ins demanding that Black be hired as other than janitors in San Francisco hotels as a youth. he participated in pickets against discriminatory landlords in Oakland. He participated in protests in defense of jailed and murdered activists in the Black Panther Party and defended Angela Davis. He was a supporter of the revolutionary perspectives of Malcolm X.
Musa was an activist and leader in the fight against the Vietnam War and in defense of a woman's right to choose abortion. He was a leader in the formation of the National Black Independent Political Party demanding a political break with the Democratic and Republican parties. He was active in the movement against apartheid in South Africa and participated in the mobilizations to support that struggle. Musa is a longtime supporter of the Cuban revolution. He supports an immediate end to the U.S. blockade against Cuba.
Musa calls for a revolution in the U.S. and installation of a workers and farmers government that can begin to eliminate exploitation and oppression in all forms.

Ward Churchill is a prolific American Indian scholar/activist, a member of the Rainbow Coalition Council of Elders, and on the leadership council of the American Indian Movement of Colorado.
In addition to his numerous works on indigenous history, he has written extensively on U.S. foreign policy, the repression of political dissent, and the FBI's COINTELPRO operations. Five of his more than 20 books have received human rights writing awards.
Professor Churchill is the former Chair of the Ethnic Studies Department, until July 2007 he was a tenured full Professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Colorado/Boulder, where he received numerous awards for his teaching and service. In April 2009 Professor Churchill won a lawsuit against the University of Colorado for violating his First Amendment rights by firing him in retaliation for his observations on 9/11. He is now asking the judge to order reinstatement.
On June 29, HBO will air "Shouting Fire," a documentary about free speech featuring Ward Churchill's case.

Through a national campaign, the charges against him were dropped. Larry has traveled throughout the world to stand in solidarity with oppressed peoples and to help them fight injustice.
