“Dating” means you're going on dates. You are actively getting out there and meeting people and spending time with them. “Dating someone” means you're seeing somebody specific, with purpose, and on a regular basis.
It's almost common knowledge that combining friendship and business rarely works, so why do so many people keep doing it? They combine friendship and business in the hopes that their friendship will be an exception.
