In this episode, we are joined by Rick Fehr (@fehrgolf). As a junior golfer, Fehr won the Washington State Junior and PGA Junior Championship. He attended Brigham Young University and was a two-time All-American. He also won numerous tournaments as an amateur, including the 1982 Western Amateur. He was the low amateur at both the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open in 1984. Rick turned professional in 1984 and joined the PGA Tour in 1985. Fehr won two PGA Tour events: the 1986 B.C. Open and the 1994 Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic. He finished runner-up in a PGA Tour event (2nd or T-2) nine times and had 41 top-10 finishes. His best finish in a major championship was a T-9 at the 1985 U.S. Open. Fehr now is a golf coach at The Golf Club at Newcastle near Bellevue, Washington.

That was never necessary, as Greg eventually got status on the European Tour, then the PGA Tour, and has spent most of his career on Korn Ferry/Nationwide Tour and the PGA Tour.

In his freshman year, he tore his ACL/MCL and had to sit out for 10 months. When he came back, he struggled significantly. During COVID, he went to Waynesboro, Georgia, where he played golf with the locals. There, he re-learned how to enjoy golf and shoot low scores again. He played well his senior year and turned pro.

In this episode, Josh Nichols (@joshlukenichols) of The Mental Golf Show talks about his journey in golf. Josh’s dad introduced him to golf at a young age and Josh eventually secured a spot at Appalachian State. After college, he stayed amateur but eventually wanted to become professional. Despite missing cuts and almost making it to the U.S. Open, Josh remained focused on the process and continued to work hard. He made it to the finals of the U.S. Mid-Am and finished runner-up. Through some unforeseen circumstances while at Ole Miss, Jacob found himself in a position where he needed transfer. Jacob finished his career out at Mississippi State where he had numerous solid finishes, including a T-11th at the Lone Star invitational. Today, Jacob is the Director of Instruction at The Country Club of Jackson and also consults juniors with all aspects of college golf.

In this episode, we are joined by Jessie Mudd (@jmudd65). Jessie was a natural talent from a young age, and by his senior year of high school he was ranked as the #1 junior golfer in the country. Around this time, Jessie signed with the University of Florida which was also ranked #1 in the country. Jessie was an All-American in his freshman year but in his sophomore year suffered injuries which plagued him for the rest of his career. In 2011, Jessie became the assistant coach at University of Kentucky, and in 2015 he became the head coach at Lamar University where he currently coaches.

Rodrigue Vie (@thecollegegolfpodcast) is originally from Remiremenont, France and moved to the USA at age 19 to play college golf at Bowling Green State University. During the 2019-2020 season, Rod averaged 71.72 over 21 rounds and was consistently the best player on the team. Rod also medaled at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, becoming the first player to win a tournament individually at BGSU since 2014. Unfortunately, Rod’s golf career was cut short by a series of back injuries. Currently, Rod lives back home in France and hosts The College Golf Podcast (https://linktr.ee/thecollegegolfpodcast).

During college, Billy Tom became the first player from Western Kentucky University to ever compete in the NCAA National Championships, where he ended up finishing t-11th. In his first year out of college he turned professional and advanced all the way from pre-qualifying to the final stage of Korn Ferry Q-School. He saw limited action in his first two years on the Korn Ferry Tour, but has battled through the second stage all three times to retain his status and is currently a member of the Korn Ferry Tour.

In this episode, we are joined by Scott Fawcett (@scottfawcett), a PGA Tour strategy coach. Scott created DECADE golf, which is a systematic way to approach golf strategy. Scott played collegiately at Texas A&M for two years before getting sidelined by an injury. After college, Scott played professionally and had some success including a win on the Hooters Tour and playing in the US Open. While being sidelined with an injury, Scott spent lots of time researching golf strategy. Through this research he formulated DECADE Golf, a system now used by tons of players (including PGA Tour winners, USGA Champions, and NCAA All Americans) to find the optimal target during a round of golf.

In this episode, Dawson Armstrong (@DawsonGolf) describes his journey from junior golf to the Korn Ferry Tour. Dawson won his first AJGA start in Nashville and went on to play at Lipscomb University for four years. During his college career, Dawson accumulated 10 victories, including NCAA Regionals medalist honors in 2017. After college, Dawson played on the PGA Tour Canada for two years before earning his Korn Ferry card in 2019 through Q-School. Today, Dawson lives in Jacksonville and is a fully exempt Korn Ferry member for 2023.

In this episode, Ashton Van Horne (@ashtonvanhorne) details through the trials and tribulations of being a professional golfer. Ashton played college golf at Belmont University, where he won 6 times in 4 years. Ashton won his first tournament as a professional, the Kentucky Open. Over the course of the next 5 years, Ashton played mostly mini tours with a few years of Canadian Tour sprinkled in. In the fall of 2021, Ashton finally broke through at second stage of Q-School and earned his Korn Ferry card. He ended up 61st on the points list at the end of the year of 2022 and will have full status for 2023.

Mike played Gaelic football in college and studied Sports & Exercise Science at the University of Limerick from 2010-2014 and began working as a personal trainer in 2011. In 2014, Mike traveled to the UK and got his TPI level 1 certification, and shortly after this created Fit For Golf. In 2016, Mike saw a job posting for a golf trainer in Orange County, California and eventually took the leap and moved. During the pandemic, the Fit For Golf app gained lots of popularity and Mike was able to go full time into it. Joe Muschong (@joe_muschong) talks about his progression from a junior golfer to a high school and Division 1 college golfer. Joe is a natural athlete who grew up playing baseball, something that has helped him become an elite driver of the golf ball. Joe is a professional golfer who played college golf at Morehead State. Joe was on the fence about playing college golf, but a few last minute roster shifts convinced him to. Joe came in and qualified for their first tournament, and did not miss a tournament during his 5 years there. Joe capped off his time at Morehead State by winning the 2022 OVC Championship.

Charlie Harrison (@harrisoncmac) talks about how he went from playing his first tournament in 7th grade to playing for Wake Forest. Tim Stewart (@TimStewartgolf) is a professional golfer on PGA Tour Latinoamérica. Tim has been a professional golfer for over 14 years and has played on multiple tours including the Asian tour, the European Challenge Tour, PGA Tour Australasia, and PGA Tour Latinoamérica. Tim won the 2006 Australian Amateur prior to turning professional. Tim also competed in the 2009 British Open.

Will Knauth (@freewilllyyyy) talks about how he has used his knowledge of math and statistics to go from a 76.2 stroke average as a freshman to a 71 stroke average senior year. Will just finished playing college golf at Carnegie Mellon, where he double majored in physics and math. Will also won twice in that senior year and was the recipient of the Byron Nelson Award. Currently, Will is a graduate student at Columbia University pursuing a Ph.D. in statistics. On top of that, Will has developed several machine learning tools in order to analyze golf strategy better.

Laney Frye (@laneyfrye11) is a junior at the University of Kentucky. As a freshman at UK she had a stroke average of 73.5 and had 2 Top 10s. As a sophomore, she had a stroke average of 72.1 and 4 Top 10s. During this summer, she qualified for the US Women’s Open, played in the Shoprite LPGA Classic, was co-medalist of the stroke play for the US Women’s Amateur, and came in 2nd place in the Sea Island Amateur. Laney explains the nerves that came with being competitive in college so fast and playing the US Women’s Open.

Austin Squires (@AustinSquires7) explains what he learned about preparing and staying engaged in tournaments at the junior, college, and professional levels of golf. Austin Squires is a professional golfer who played college golf at the University of Cincinnati. As a freshman, his stroke average was 76. As a sophomore and junior, he improved his stroke average to 71.92 and 71.91, respectively, and won the Firestone Invitational both years. As a senior, his stroke average was 70.62, which is a school record. As a professional golfer, Austin has played on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica and currently plays on the PGA Tour Canada.

Evan Davis (@evandavis2) just finished playing college golf at Belmont, where he set the school scoring record multiple times (most recently 70.19). Evan won the OVC Championship in 2020. As a junior golfer, Evan played multiple sports until he decided to focus on golf. He shares how he has tried to keep his swing athletic and how he focuses on taking one shot at a time. Leo Herrera (@LH3golf) explains how to he got used to feeling nerves and performing under pressure in big tournaments. Leo Herrera played at University of Central Florida for the 2020 season. Prior to UCF, Leo was an elite amateur golfer who won the AJGA Jim Bell Memorial in 2017, won the AJGA BishopsGate Golf Academy Junior Championship in 2019, and won the USGA Four Ball with Kiko Coelho. Jacob Cook (@Big_Cookie5) tells us how he got to college, realized how good the competition was, and leveled up. As a junior golfer, Jacob played in a variety of high-level tournaments, such as the Western Junior and the Callaway Junior World Championship, and holds the record for the longest playoff in AJGA history. Outside of college, played in the 2021 US Amateur, and qualified for US Open Sectionals in 2021 and 2022. Jacob just graduated from the University of Kentucky and plans on playing professionally.

Daniel played golf at Belmont University and started off strong as a freshman by winning OVC Freshman of the Year. After a lull due to a swing change, Daniel finished off his senior season with 7 Top 20 finishes, with 3 of those being Top 10.
