In this week’s episode-14 of The Immigrant Experience, we hosted the most brilliant guy in Ottawa - Author Jacob Duala-Ekoko.

In 2011 Author Ekwa Jacob Duala-Ekoko created an Ottawa Guide application which won the best overall prize of the Apps4Ottawa contest - The people's Choice award. The application was praised for its ease of use.

The smartphone application that Jacob Duala-Ekoko created would let people learn about places and landmarks throughout Ottawa with the click of the phone's camera.

Jooris Ndongozi's son Tyson Ndongozi was murdered in Ottawa on July 2021. Jooris is frustrated by the increasing gun violence in Lowertown and wants to start an initiative to change things.

On July 5, 2021, Loris Tyson Ndongozi, 20 years old, was shot and killed in
Lowertown.

The death of Tyson left the entire community heart-broken and suffering, particularly his family, but it is also motivating Tyson’s father, Jooris Ndongozi to start a movement speaking out against gun violence.

The Immigrant Experience Episode #5 - Alek Golijanin explains his international and local humanitarian projects.

Alek Golijanin explains to us his international and local humanitarian projects. The concept for DocConnect was developed by Alek Golijanin, a local community builder looking to make a difference in the lives of others, especially Canadian youth.
DocConnect is a web-based application designed to be used by high school guidance counsellors to help students who do not have a family doctor. A postal code is entered, and DocConnect returns a list of nearby doctors and clinics. Necessary enrolment forms are also provided ready to print, to make the whole process as simple as possible.
In this episode, Alek explains to us how the experience shaped him into who is he today.

Alek Golijanin and his parents came to Canada in 1994. He is a proud first-generation Canadian that was lucky to escape the war experience that affected those in the Former Yugoslavia. Alek grew up in Ottawa, in the multi-culturally rich community of Heron Gate. The experience introduced him to the cultures of the world.

Boluwatife Michael-Biyi A.K.A Barrister Mike worked as an administrator and lawyer at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, an agency of the African Union in Nairobi, Kenya. He is also the co-founder and president of ROI Africa, a non-governmental organization with a focus on shaping policies in the educational and health sectors in Africa. Bolu holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Covenant University where he served as the president of the Student Union as well as a bachelor's degree in Law from Swansea University in the United Kingdom.
This Monday he will be talking to us about his experience and the struggles he overcame to finally land on his dream job.
