"The best instructions come from the creator of a product."

We've been married for 30 years, and one of the things that has helped us stay strong is that we've been intentional about our intimacy. We've always put God first in our marriage, and we've been intentional about growing in our spiritual, emotional, and sexual intimacy. We wish we would have had more adventure in our first five years of marriage, and we wish we would have been more intentional about creating healthy habits.

In this episode you will learn:

  1. The most important factors for us maintaining a strong, healthy marriage?
  2. What we would do differently if you could go back and do our first five years of marriage over again?
  3. Two general themes that, if addressed, would make the biggest difference in most marriages?

This is Christopher and Jasmine Catoe's story...

I'm a worship leader at Christ Fellowship Church and my wife, Jasmine, is a content producer. We met in middle school and have been married for almost three years. Recently, we took an enneagram test and discovered that I am actually a five, not a one like we thought. This was a bit of a shock to me, but it made sense when I thought about my perfectionism and my love for data and planning. As a five, I tend to hoard information and resources, which can make collaboration difficult. However, I am working on delegating and trusting others with my ideas in order to build up the community around me.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

  1. How the Catoe family views and uses the Enneagram
  2. The difference between a one and a five on the Enneagram
  3. The importance of collaboration in the creative process
  4. How core motivations affect our actions

  1. How do you experience me in our relationship? (Protector or Dominator)
  2. What does challenging me look like for you to feel empowered?
  3. What does support from me look like for you to feel empowered?

If you are a protector you can ask…Have there been ways that I have created mistrust because of my lack or misuse of challenge?

If you are a challenger you could ask…Have there been ways that I have made you feel fearful or manipulated because of my lack of or misuse of support?

When committed love, emotional intimacy, and passion collide, the result is a work of art called marriage.

"Love is more than a feeling and deeper than a crafty slogan or a line of a song."

Today we're talking about love. The word love is described in so many different ways. Some make sense. Some are just silly. Some talk about love. Some try to define love. Some of these you may have heard of well, and other others may be new to you. Love is blind. Love is in the air. All you need is love. Love is like war. Easy to begin and hard to end. Not sure about that one. Love means differences can be worked out. Love is reaching your dreams together. Our love is like dividing by zero. It can't be defined. That kind of feels more like a bad pickup line. Yeah, it does. While some of those could be true, it's really difficult to define love. What makes up love?

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. How can love be defined? 2. What are the components of love? 3. What does love look like in a healthy marriage?

It just might be the key to a happy marriage.

"I felt understood for the first time and found out that castling is okay because it's how I restore and how I even when we first got married, I had to look at her and say, I need you to hear that I love you dearly, but I need to be away

Ben and Elisa Haake are a married couple who have been together for 12 years. They have two children and live in Florida. Ben is a worship pastor at Christ Fellowship Church and Elisa is a vocal coach and worship leader. They are both super hosts with Airbnb.

Are you dealing with any of this?
1. You may feel like your partner isn't listening to you or understanding your feelings.
2. You may feel like you're always the one giving and never receiving.
3. Your partner may not be meeting your needs emotionally or physically.

"So one of my favorite leadership teachers, Jim Rohn, taught small errors in judgment over a period of time will result in accumulated disaster."

I used to love running. I would go out every day and explore new routes. But after a while, I started to notice some pain in my right hip. I thought it was just muscle soreness at first, but it didn't go away. I saw a general practice doctor and they said everything was fine, but after a few weeks I knew something was really wrong. I ended up going to an orthopedic specialist and they told me I had a serious fracture in my hip. I had to have surgery and it was a really long recovery process. I think this is a really good illustration of what can happen in a marriage relationship. Small fractures can grow and cause real damage if they're not addressed.

In this episode you will learn: 1. How small errors in judgment can accumulate into disaster in a marriage relationship? 2. How ignoring ongoing pain in a marriage relationship can lead to larger problems? 3. What are some signs that there may be a stress fracture in a marriage relationship?

1. Is there something right now in your marriage that has the potential to create disconnection or a break in your relationship?
