This podcast is about growing beef calves known as stocker cattle and selling in the cash livestock markets such as sale barns and stockyards for a profit. We focus on selling a heavier animal and replacing it with a lighter animal by analyzing USDA market reports to guide marketing decisions. We believe if you can't do it with a little you can't do it with a lot. The small acreage rancher has unique opportunities and challenges and should treat their ranch as a business to avoid becoming a hobby farmer.

We use really easy math, a USDA market report and a pencil to make educated marketing decisions that don't rely on predicting the future. We trade in cash markets and make profitable trades.
Trading for more weight doesn't always equal more money. This week we are looking at trading 8 weights for an in demand weight class versus trading those same cattle for a not in demand weight class. We keep 100 pounds of cattle weight and bring home the same money if we would of traded for 100 pounds lighter in the weight class below it.
