As a white woman coming from the West who studies development, I feel that it is extremely important never to assume things before hand on issues that affect people who live different realities from mine, and always re-check my privilege and question my truths before giving my opinion and views on topics that currently affect our world.
So, tune in if you want to follow my learning process of de-constructing my mis/preconceptions about the world via conversations with friends who come from different places and have different ideas than me, and pose yourself the question: Do I Really Know?
In this episode, the conversation I started with Santiago in Episode 2 continues. This time, we discuss issues surrounding the Right to the City, and more particularly, Medellín; whether Reggeaton empowers or perpetuates sexism; and we finish the episode talking about the latest demonstrations that have taken place in Colombia. In this second episode, my friend Santiago joins me to discuss different issues affecting Colombia. Among many other things, we talk about Narcos, the Colombian Peace Process, and how being part of the LGBTQI+ community can be a political statement in addition to an essential part of one's identity.
