I have been in the janitorial business for more than 40 years and in all that time i've learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn't.
My goal to revolutionize the cleaning industry set my business apart from the competition by developing strategic systems and processes to insure consistency and speed with every clean.
After losing my first janitorial business in a divorce, I just rinsed and repeated the process, replicating results and scaling my business to multi million dollars a year in only eight months.
Now I want to share what I've learned with you.
There's a state of mind that leads to success. And there's a state of mind that leads to failure. Is it possible to change your state of mind? And if so, how do you do it? Well, that's what this episode of the business building success show is all about. My name is Glenn Springfield and welcome to the show. There was a study done at UC Berkeley that is extremely interesting and extremely valuable...
Today, I have something very important to discuss, and that is the subject of motivation. Where does motivation come from when we're feeling unmotivated? How can we flip a switch to then feel more motivated? If our staff is unmotivated, what do we do to help them be more motivated to motivate them? And it's an interesting subject because I just came out of a staff meeting where I, you know, going around the table, a bunch of people that I care for a lot. And we're discussing this subject. And from a psychological standpoint where motivation comes from, I want to explain that first because it is an understanding that makes success possible and not understanding this makes success almost impossible...
I want to tell you a story, something that happened recently that I think has got some lessons embedded in it that we can all benefit from. And they've got some special equipment and they've got some special techniques, but you know, they've got to, to help these kids get over the fear of trying to ride a bike, because if you're not as coordinated as other people and you, you get to go and, you know, fast enough on a bike to stay up, well, then the bike can fall down. And you're picturing in your mind all, you know, the catastrophe, the wreck, the skin knees, and, and so that fear can, you know, hold these kids back...

Today, I want to talk about your habits. Now, we know that habits are the things that we do without thinking about them and if we have a set of good habits, then it sets us up to produce good results without even thinking about it. Now, we know, if you brush your teeth, like we're supposed to brush our teeth, it will make our breath better, our social life better, and it will make our teeth last longer.
Now, what is the yellow pencil principle? It goes something like this. If you needed a pencil and you had to write something, I said, "Here, pick a pencil." Well, which pencil would you choose? They're all the same. They're all number two pencils. They're all made in the same place as just a big bowl of pencils and so you wouldn't really care which one you use because to you, they're just all the same. Well, to a lot of people, your business is just like every other business that's like yours.
