In this episode we address how this applies to us as Christians living today who are urged to have self-respect to be happy and live fulfilled lives, and how there is a better way.

What does it mean to have self-respect? And if you are a Christian - does this follow Biblical teachings?
Join us today on Precious Thoughts as we continue to explore the relationship of king David of ancient Israel with his warrior nephews who challenged him so much that he said they were too hard for him.
In this part 6a we learn of an occasion where his eldest nephew wanted David to be given the respect his position as king deserved, but David in contrast exhibited humility and looked to God to be exalted.
This episode is to be completed in part 6b when we more particularly consider the application for us as Christians today.

An elderly father is giving his last words to his 12 sons. When he comes to his favourite son, Joseph, he describes him as being 'separate' from his brothers.
What did he mean? Can we relate to this sense of being separate or different from those around us, or are we lonely in our isolation from our loved ones? And what, is like Joseph, we have been separated in being set apart for something specific?

Jacob was a desperate man, facing death, from his own twin brother, Esau. The night before he was expecting to come face to face with his brother and his army of 400 men he literally wrestled with God's angel, pleading for God to bless him.
In this third and final part of this series we conclude our thoughts on what it means to wrestle with God (part 1), what it teaches us individually (part 2) and four lessons we can take from this true story which give us hope and comfort for today.

In the Old Testament book of the Bible, Exodus, we read of the Hebrews leaving slavery in Egypt and travelling to the land God had promised them. Can we relate to their experiences of hardship as we experience our own daily battles with life? Do we, like them, sometimes question whether God is with us or not?

Purchasing a new phone has reminded Elinor of the dissatisfaction we can experience when we spend too long on social media.
This episode looks at one remedy to overcome this dissatisfaction. Exchanging the sin of covetousness with gratitude and thankfulness.

When Joseph of the Old Testament was only around 17 years of age his incensed, jealous older brothers kidnapped him and sold him as a slave. The reason - their father's preferential treatment to him followed by Joseph recounting prophetic dreams in which they would all bow down to him.
In part 1 we looked at the background to these events and the dangers of preferential treatment before considering whether we can overshare God's revelations to us.
In part 2 we look at how sharing our revelations may be tested, making us wonder if we imagined it all. We conclude asking questions to help us know when to share, and when we should keep silent.

Joseph a character from the Old Testament dreamt two dreams from God which prophesised events over 20 years later. Sharing these was the straw that broke the camel's back and his jealous brothers decided to kill him. Come with me and consider some of the dangers of preferential treatment and sharing what God reveals to us. Can we overshare? Do we get proud?
