  1. I do want to be clear here 2. Ok, what you are saying is 3. So you're committed to 4. And our goal is to.

Two types: Dismissal of the idea and Acceptance of the idea.

S2 EP 16 - Holding focus on what is important - Strategies

We apologize for being away for a few weeks, with the Hong Kong Lockdowns and health concerns it's been a while since we posted. We miss you all and are excited to share this LONG podcast unedited just for you the Vocal Visionaries!

In this episode, we talked about how to hold focus on what is important. It is a fun exercise, we mentioned earlier which is being able to listen to someone be able to listen to yourself and self reflect, and find out the intent of the conversation identify the problems these things are important.

Then we discussed why focusing on the conversation and what the point of this conversation is,  to not derail yourself don’t do not allow yourself to be derailed by your thoughts of rejection or concern for yourself that you’re not saying what you need to say but in terms of just being with the conversation if you can focus on what’s important on that it doesn’t matter the outcome of the conversation because it’s an ongoing thing especially if you’re planning on having this conversation is for the future relationship to continue, You will have time to revisit these conversations in the future knowing that if you’re focusing on ally then that you are not listening to you so what is important is what’s important to the conversation

In this episode, we discuss: Keeping the conversation on track - redirecting techniques.

We all want to keep the conversation on track so know where you’re at within the interaction. We share how many times the conversation will go off track because the other person will redirect the conversation, for multiple reasons, maybe because they feel uncomfortable having a conversation at that time or oftentimes whether not we realize it odd chats also seem to take the conversation off track. If we’re scared to say something to bring it back we miss the opportunity to drive this point home especially if you’re talking about something it’s very difficult. Today we talk about to help you get back on track

In this episode, we talk about how to lead the conversations where it's going, why identity and context are so important. Now we can lead the conversation in the direction it goes, not as some sort of manipulation but in an effort to make sure the tactical chat becomes valuable for both involved.

In this episodes Next Actions we ask you to answer these questions before you have the conversation:

  1. What is the outcome you're looking to achieve?

  2. What is the best-case scenario?

  3. What is the worst-case scenario?

  4. What would it look like if the conversation was never had, whats the impact of that?

In this episode, we talk about. what is the context? It's the overall theme of the message, the place where we are coming from where anything said in this space is allowed yet also geared toward why we are even having this interaction in the first place. It's a space to always go back to if needed.

in this episode's Next Actions we discuss what you can do to create the workflow to know what to say within the context of the conversation.

(Apologies for the audio buzz in the episode)

In this episode we talk about how to identify what needs to be said, I mean we all struggle with saying what we want to say, right? Maybe it's because we fear the reaction of someone else, or we don't know what that means for the conversation. Let's dive into both ideas and are clear on what needs to be said before we chat. So today we talk about ways to see how it will go and then we can be clear about what we want to say to get an intended result.

In this episode's Next Actions we ask you to write about the fear you have going into the conversation by clarifying the best and worst-case outcome and then providing a thesis statement, one sentence that would explain the conversation.

In this episode we talked about when to just say it, its an interesting topic because we’ve been talking with you about a lot of other concepts of how we can get over the fear and what to say in those moments but now we just need to get it out.

That confidence is now in us we understand where we’re coming from in so you need to just say it be OK with it send that text don’t think about it be authentic self don’t let anybody else consider you any less than now of course were talking with people who are already mentally stable enough to be able to know who they are in society to be able to make a contribution to we’re not talking about negative words of hatred anger no comments that would incite any type of violence so this isn’t just say it be OK

In this episodes Next Actions we suggest 2 parts - 1. To find a few people you can say anything you wanna say but this time mention what you haven't said before. and 2 - Have others share what they need to because it is when you get to say what’s your truth you believe to be genuine and authentic how do we get to that space when it’s OK to just say what I want to say?

In this episode we talked about, how to overcome the fear of what other people think?

We are inundated with so many affirmations telling ourselves that we’re great reminding ourselves those things but because were human also consider what others think and serve a tribe mentality in a world of agreement of people agree that it’s true so we’re always looking for that but within that also comes fear and it’s a deep rooted fear that attaches onto these concepts we just talked about the agreement the tribe mentality that if we’re ostracised from these things we may not be good enough anymore or potentially even have the fear of failure so how are we able to overcome the fear of what other people think and be true to ourselves to say those words of affirmation is really really know it be OK with who you are?

In todays Next Actions we discuss the new system you can create and the 3 steps to make it work!

In this episode we talked about, presenting, what is the piont? So we talking about how to say what you need to say last episode. Often we get to the place of whats the point so why speak if you're not being heard?

We discuss  how many times I have not said things I know I want to say because I believe that person wInto the words that I’m saying whether it be based on their bias weather be based on previous experiences of how they’ve been listening. So I tend to say what I need to say but I don’t say what I want to say so how can we say what we need to say when we feel like we’re not really being heard? It’s not about getting what we want what but being able to say what I need.

In todays episode we talked about saying what you need to say. When we speak we don’t always realize what we say, how it lands and even how we are perceived.

Fear overtakes a lot of the moments that we have to say the words that we need to say but we are afraid to say it because we may not see it in the best way you know are you know we could’ve done better that there’s a lot of that concerned that shows up in public speaking and so the best ways to say some thing is to not be afraid so What can we say that helps others be with us and not be afraid to speak?

In this episode we talked about Listening 2.0. It's about all the stuff that is going on inside your head in the background. When we get clear on what we listen to, ourselves or others, then we can create the vision on where we can listen from, in the conversation.

In this episodes Next Actions we suggest to listen from compassion, your listening changes that conversation. So challenge is to listen from a place of concern and compassion and see how the other person shows up in their speaking. 2 conversation listen from concern and compassion and write bits of how others responded.

**In this episode we talked about Role Play Skills and How to Communicate. It was a great conversation about how we deal with Role Play both in the corporate world, for interviews and creating jobs, as well as sharing from Jeff's personal experience about how delt with using role play and the lost relationship with his Father. What we got by doing a role play exercise and how you can benefit from them too.

In this episodes Next Actions we dove deeper into the converstion earlier, so we wanted to give you the action you can take. Have a look below:

Want to create a Role Play? ~ 20 - 25 Minutes -

This activity models one positive and one negative interview in order to demonstrate what is considered appropriate and inappropriate behavior in a job interview. If there is only one staff member, they can play both roles.

Hand out 5 pre-written note cards to participants (1 card per participant). Tell the group to act as the hiring committee for an open position with their company. It helps to give youth a specific job position that they are hiring for, such as Youth Leader at the Y or Office Assistant at the Mayor’s office. The first time through, allow the participants to interview you while you model someone who is prepared and professional. Give answers that provide youth with real life experiences that relate to the job offering at hand. Now, ask for 5 more volunteer interviewers – and have them take the same cards you previously handed out.

Your second staff member (or the same staff member in different clothing) will interview for the same position. The second interviewee should model unprofessional behavior. Examples of this include dressing inappropriately, using informal language, responding to a text mid interview, chewing gum, not making eye contact, and answering questions with incomplete, one-sentence answers. After the second interview, ask the group to point out specific habits and responses that set the two interviewees apart. Jot their answers down on the board. Who would they hire? Why? Use their responses to generate a list of “Good Interview Habits” on the board (or piece of paper), or circle the answers/characteristics of who they would hire.**

In todays episode, we talked about position and where are you coming from? We discussed how we only have 1 second to make that first overall impression. If it sounds scary, its not, we also discuss others ways to position yourself by speaking and using your tone in social situations to make sure someone gets where your coming from, especially if that first second of the interaction didn't quite go so well as planned.

In todays Next Action steps we suggest to call 5 people you haven’t spoke to 5 years ago and see how they see you now, update to people on who you are now. Catch up with people!

In this episode we discussed, presenter skills and how to speak. It was a fun one because we got quickly reminded of our personal experiences and the feelings that happen when we present, sometimes we felt things we didn't want to feel, but the base and foundation we have in the skills are what propels us to keep presenting. You can have that too!

For this episodes Next Actions we shared more on a few skills.  Slow down! Posture up, breathe in, speak. It’s a simple 1,2,3 check of the body, mind and voice.

In this episode, we talked about how you position your body reflects on how you perceive yourself. Of course we discuss some tips and ticks on what to do to look more relaxed an in control. However, there are a few surprises on what it means to use your posture while you are talking with someone, and David shares a fun story as well.

The Next Actions step: Stand in the mirror, look at your self in the eye for 1 min, recognise your face, body, laughter, stoicism and don’t judge it. Dot. Judge, if you do stop and start the timer again. This work proves that may be in your head too much. No good or bad, just recognise.

Did it resonate? Did you relate? What ways can you share of yourself that you haven't yet taken on, consider if you are scared or just shy to say what is on your mind?R

**In todays episode we talk about how to "Know Your Audience - Get them to say, thats right."

When we speak its best to summarise the others emotion and then make your point by finding the 90 seconds of gold.**

The next actions we discussed are based on that 90 seconds of gold is what we want, we talked about recreation, then try this action step, once you recreate then give them the gold. They will then be training to listen and once they do you give them everything you heard and what you can do to deliver. Have 2 interviews this month, even mock interview to practice knowing the moment of gold. When someone hears jt they are bonded and connected to you.

In this episode we talked about listening. During “ listen” we tend to just wait until we speak next, lets then consider that we must re create them. Have a conversations today, listen to someone and then re create them. Not repeat their words but find a new wag your brain connects to theirs for about 2 sentences before responding with your or thought process that happen while listening. Then record your opinion about the experience listen back and review your listening skills too.
