In episode 18, we focus on how God gives us our true identity, not the identity we strive to create for ourselves.

We discuss:

  • What is that you're holding onto that keeps you from persevering (aka, going through life with Jesus). What idols do you place before Jesus? Kids? Career? Money?
  • When we try to carry too much it keeps us from living the best life. In episode 18 we discuss how Jesus helps us persevere by lightening our load, by setting the pace and through his grace.
  • How can you not win every battle if you remember who you are in Him? When we forget who we are, that's when we lose to the enemy.

In this episode we focus on Purpose and our discussion revolves around how using Jesus as a model for being intentional and focused can keep you living in the right pace. Jesus was never in conflict about his priorities, nor was He ever not on mission. What a glorious example to model!

PURPOSE

MATTHEW 6:34 | ROMANS 11:36 | MATTHEW 28:18-20 | JAMES 1:19-27 | 1 PETER 2:5-8

Jesus taught to focus on today because tomorrow has enough worry of its own. Your purpose is to love God with all of our heart, your mind, your soul and your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

REFLECTION

Who is God asking you to share His love with and what is He asking of you today? Share with God what is overflowing from Your heart.

PRAYER

LUKE 11:2-13 | MATTHEW 6:9-14 | ROMANS 8:26-28 | 2 CHRONICALS 6:40 | MATTHEW 6:6 Jesus provided us a model for prayer. (Matthew 6:9-14).

Prayer is our communion with God. With reverence we recognize and respect His authority and holiness. (9) We acknowledge His sovereignty in all things and that He alone is our provider and sustainer. (10-11) We confess our need for forgiveness as we forgive those who have sinned against us. (12) Finally, we ask God for guidance so that we yield to the Holy Spirit and not yield to temptation or to the evil one. (13)

REFLECTION

The importance of this prayer is your daily commune with Jesus. Jesus is your "daily bread" and in Him you have everything you need for this day. His provision & His presence is your blessing and your reward. As you reflect on this prayer, share the overflow of your heart with Him.

"Pressure in life always reveals your posture." (Mark Moyer)

In Episode 15, we explore the story of Mary and Martha's relationship and their posture when they met Jesus. Jessica, Mark and James discuss real life situations where our posture stops focusing on Jesus and how we can move back toward Him.

POSTURE

PHILIPPIANS 2:3-5 | PROVERBS 4:23-27 | PHILIPPIANS 2:7-8 | MATTHEW 10:38-39 | PROVERBS 3:5-8 | GALATIANS 5:22-26 1 JOHN 2:16

Your posture is your position before Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior. Every day, you need to take into consideration the condition of your heart and the fullness of our soul.

Are you in alignment with Him? What is your posture?

Your posture should allow you to be filled with Him, but it is imperative that you take inventory of yourself each day, each time you come before Him. Evaluate your posture and be aware of what things you may be placing ahead of Jesus, as well as things that may be holding you back. Work at being real and vulnerable with Him so your posture is one that is ready to receive.

REFLECTION

What is your posture before Jesus on this day? Are there things you need Him to empty you of or free you from? Are you experiencing the fruits of the Spirit? Are you battling fear, pride, or lust in your soul?

Pause and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into the truth to reveal the posture of your heart and soul before God. Share the overflow of your heart with Jesus as the Holy Spirit guides you.

Surrender. Diminish. Give up control. So why do we struggle to do these things more? Where, when and how do you most deeply connect with God? Have you found absolute peace within Him?

If you have questions, suggestions or want to give us feedback, you can send James an email to 'coach@jamesmayhew.com'.

PRAISE

PSALM 63 | PSALM 148 | LUKE 19:40

What needs have you had that God has met? What prayers has he answered or how has he revealed to you who He is in your life?

God is working when we see it and when we don’t see it. Consider the ways that he is working for you in the temporary as well as eternally. God created us to worship Him and he gives us ways to praise Him every day. In fact, even if we don't praise him, His Word says that the stones will burst out in praise. Even if you feel like you are in a season of sorrow, God gives himself. He in Himself is goodness and love, and faithful and true.

REFLECTION

How can you praise Him for who He is and what He is doing?

View Details

In episode 13, Jessica opens with a challenging question about what it means to truly petition God. What happens when you feel stuck in your effort to petition God for significant things? How do you petition God for things that we can’t even imagine?

Lord, are my prayers bold enough?

PETITION

PHILIPPIANS 4:6 | MATTHEW 7:7 | LUKE 11:9 | DANIEL 9:3 |1 JOHN 5:15 | PSALM 37:4

What do you need to bring before the Kingdom of God that is beyond your ability to achieve or receive? We pray to commune with God in fellowship with Him, but we petition God to call on Him to do what only He can.

REFLECTION

Search your heart and place your petitions before Jesus Christ and thank Him for His answer.

2 PETER 1:3-6 | JAMES 1:3 | 2 PETER 1:12-13 | PSALM 1 | ROMANS 12:12

The entire Christian life is defined by overcoming and being victorious over the power and pressures of sin in this world. Today you will encounter a trial, tribulation or distraction of some kind. Some days are more intense than others.

The trials, tribulations, and distractions from the world, because of your faith, should lead you to rejoice.

The trials, tribulations and distractions caused by your sin should lead you to repent. To persevere, you must be free from the weight and bondage of sin.

REFLECTION

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any unconfessed or unrecognized sin and receive God's grace and mercy so that you can serve Him victoriously today. Remember, truth always leads to freedom!

"They left it all on the field" is a sports metaphor about what it means to give it your all. No excuses. No regrets. Just knowing you lived the day fully. In episode 11, Jessica, Mark and James discuss what it means to live each day fully.

Jesus reminds us that seeking His Kingdom and living righteousness is our first priority. In Jesus, you have everything you need and without Him you can do nothing. (John 15:4) Therefore, decide today to abide in His life, (John 15:4) His letter, (John 15:7), and His love (John 15:9).
