This week in our story we see God's people wrestling with Biblical interpretation. How should we approach Biblical interpretation in a helpful way?

This week we jumped ahead to Nehemiah chapter 9 to see how God rebuilds our identity through confession. Confession is an often overlooked and misunderstood spiritual discipline. Guest preacher Burke Lindvall reminds us that confession bring us joy, righteousness, and closeness to God instead of the shame and guilt that we often associate with it.

In the third week of our series God's people are struggling with how to love God and grow spiritually while also loving their neighbor. This is a tension that has been felt by every generation of God's people, including our own. In this sermon we will tackle questions such as: which is more important, loving God or loving my neighbor, how can we be in the world but not of the world, and how can I even begin to love my enemies?

In the second week of our study in Ezra we see God's people learning to rebuild their identity as "children of God" through worship. This leads us to asking the questions: Is my identity shaped by who God says I am? And what rhythms and habits of worship am I constructing in my life to remind me of who I really am in God's eyes?

In week four of our Gospel Sexuality series we dig into the story of Jacob in Genesis 29. This lesser known Old Testament story certainly has no heroes but it does clearly show us the consequences of trying to find or identity and purpose in romance and marriage. When we are confronted with our own idolatry Pastor Joey Kalan challenges us to re-orient our lives to focus on Jesus so that we can escape the unfruitful cycle of idolatry.

In week three of our series Gospel Sexuality Pastor Joey Kalan walks us through what the Bible says about sex and gender. This includes a discussion on how to study what the Bible says about masculinity and femininity, how being made as men and women helps us as image bearers of God, and what to do if we have questions about our gender identity or if we know someone who does.

In week 2 of our Gospel Sexuality series Pastor Joey Kalan walks us through the Theology of the Body. We believe that God handcrafted our bodies with great care and intentionality, but due to sin and brokenness in the world not everything functions how it should. Our bodies experience physical limitations like illness and disease, and mentally we experience body shame because we don't view ourselves how God views us. Thankfully, God promises that we will be made whole and have new bodies one day. In the meantime, the Bible teaches us that, "Our bodies are for the Lord, and the Lord is for our bodies."

We believe that God made the world and everything in it and declared that it is good! But because of sin, everything aspect of our lives experiences brokenness, including our sexuality. As humans, we recognize that something isn't quite right and we try to fix our condition, but the voices and resources offering solutions aren't always helpful. Our culture often communicates a false narrative by giving us license to live how we want and religion often distorts our sexuality by teaching legalism. Only the gospel of Jesus has the answers we need to live in a way that glorifies God with our sexuality. Pastor Joey Kalan begins this discussion and challenges us by asking the question: "Are you ready to trust God and the Gospel to shape your understanding of your sexuality?"
