We all have tough "mindset" days as business owners and when we have them, it can feel like an uphill struggle.
Our limiting beliefs become all the more obvious, affecting our thoughts and hammering down on our action-taking ability, stopping us from doing the very things that will help us succeed.
I know this because... it happens to me! In fact, just the other day I found myself in a downward spiral of anxiety and negative thoughts. It was hard and tough to snap out of.

I have found myself in situations throughout my life, probably since I was at school, where I've been perceived as not confident enough. At school, in jobs etc. And it can be quite frustrating!
Why? Because the things I have accomplished so far would suggest I do have confidence. Starting a business, for example, is not for the faint-hearted! Even starting this podcast and showing up weekly. Showing up on video. Having the courage to put myself out there!
Yet, somehow, my confidence has not come across in certain situations. And I wonder if you can relate?

This week I'm continuing my dip into the topic of podcasting, and I wanted to share a more personal perspective.
Starting a podcast has numerous well-known benefits but my reason for starting in the first place was not exactly... business-focused or super strategised. There was something much deeper and unresolved at play! And that's OK.
We all have our own reasons for starting new ventures and just because it isn't what others deem to be the "right" reason, it doesn't mean your reason isn't valid or important.

It really frustrates me when I see these posts online saying "if you want to be successful you can't watch Netflix" or shaming people for wanting to see their friends, saying they "don't want it enough" if they're not constantly working around the clock.
I believe in working hard to achieve your goals, but this can look different for everyone and it's not a "one size fits all".
We are not ROBOTS!! 🤖

Hey there! I'm back after my trip to Italy and feeling super inspired by my surroundings.
I am however sooo ready to continue sharing my words of wisdom with you in this wonderful space we have here.

Today I wanted to share a message inspired by my recent travels - where we decided to take a step back from the "travel blogger" + "bucketlist" mentality and:
- Explore at our own pace (none of this cramming in every attraction possible!)
- Stop feeling the pressure to visit somewhere because it's "highly rated" and a "must see"
- Approach our visits from a place of JOY and what we love doing (even if that is eating pistachio cream croissants in bulk!)
On reflection I felt that parallels can be drawn between the above and building a creative business ⚡️
Maybe we can learn some lessons from this as we navigate our paths and remain strong in our efforts to dodge the "hype" recommendations?

As someone who in the past (and still does) currently suffer with bouts of anxiety, I can sometimes feel so paralysed by overthinking and fear of the unknown - that I stay stuck in a state of inaction.
And it can be tough place to be!!
So what do I do to move past it? I tend to always go back to 3 really simple things that work and I reveal them in this episode.

51. How to stay on track when life gets a little... crazy
Hands up if you sometimes feel like life has overtaken and you don't know if you're coming or going?
You are not alone! There are certain times when things happen in life that are out of our control and quite frankly... there isn't much we can do about it.
But there are 3 things you CAN do to manage your response to it a little better. This episode is for those times in your business when you're freaking out because you have made like a zillion "life" commitments. Whether that's your best friend's-daughter's-christening, or your second cousin's wedding, or you're moving house, being off sick... having a baby.
Whatever you're experiencing right now, let me tell you that this is not the end of the world for your creative business! It is still possible to stay on track.

EP49: Feel like you're not doing "enough"? Listen to this. Do you ever feel like you're not doing "enough" I battle with this feeling so, sooo much! It's really tough because I know logically in my head that quantity does not equal quality in terms of actions, but in this productivity-driven society I definitely have days where I can be very hard on myself if I haven't ticked off my "to do list". Distraction, procrastination... it all happens. But we need to learn to be kinder to ourselves when we have days like this, and learn to rest when we are not feeling in the right energy. In the 21st Century though, this can be tricky to navigate as we learn to step more into our "feminine energy" and embrace our cycles / seasons. Have you ever seen someone else doing what they're really passionate about for a living and wondered what your "thing" is? This is definitely something I can relate to, and I'm sure many of you lovelies can too!

This week I'm talking to the amaaazing Dora about her big business adventure so far:
Dora is a mum of 2 from Surrey, UK. She is a website designer and she loves helping female business owners get started with their website, so they can move their business forward. Based on her own journey as an entrepreneur, she believes that having a website is not just about credibility. It’s about confidence and a sense of moving your business to the next level. Her path to website design was far from conventional. She has a Masters degree in Economics and worked as a database manager for most of her career. After becoming a mum, she invented an award winning baby product Medapti and while trying to bring her invention to life, she learnt a ton of new things about running a business, including creating a website. It has been a steep learning curve since building her first ever WordPress website 9 years ago, but she realised how much she enjoy it! What she loves even more is empowering other women to move their business to the next level and helping them realise their ability to do what they thought was impossible!
SUMMARY:
In this episode, we discuss the journey to finding your "one thing" and all the amazing experiences we can have on the way. We also discuss whether finding this achievable and realistic (there is a twist at the end... so wait for it).

EP35 - You Don't Have to Know the Whole Journey... Just the First Step
So often we are held back by feelings of overwhelm when faced with our future desires and goals. We think we have to have it ALL figured out... but in fact this is not realistic and the only thing we must do is take the first step. From that place, we can intuitively realise what is right for us and take the next step, then the next etc.
I'm not saying that planning ahead isn't wise - because of course you can make plans! But you will encounter many twists and turns, so be prepared to make tweaks along the way. The most effective thing we can do when starting something new, is to take action in some way or another. In this episode I use my blog as an example, how I got started and that I didn't have my whole journey mapped out in front of me.

EP33 - The secret ingredient you need for a "unique" business idea
This week's topic is something I am super passionate about... in fact it's come up for me a lot this week when creating my "How to Gain Clarity on Your Big Business Idea (and stop feeling stuck)" course ---- link to Udemy available in the links at the end.
When we begin our entrepreneurial journey, we sometimes think that to come up with a unique business idea, it has to a) not have been discovered before and b) be totally groundbreaking. But this is detrimental to our journey because it is simply not the case! Believing this can leave us in a state of inaction and feeling stuck.
Plus, there is in fact, a very vital secret ingredient to coming up with a unique business that we do not consider enough - in my opinion! That is YOU.

Wahoo, it's episode 30!!! Thank you so much for sticking around to listen to my thoughts on this creative business rollercoaster we find ourselves on, and the personal development journey that naturally comes with it.
So, you may be old enough to remember the 90s / 00s Dr Pepper advert with the jingle "what's the worst that could happen?".
Today's episode is perhaps not as memorable musically (or maybe you love my theme tune!) but I want this to be a reminder to you! If you are holding yourself back in some way in your creative business, because.... maybe you're worried what others will think, or you think it won't "work", or you have a lot of negative feelings about yourself. Please consider this question - truly what is the worst that could happen?
Let me share with you a strategy I use when I'm facing fearful moments and turning a corner in my creative business.

With an MBA from the University of Liverpool and more than 15 years of experience, she’s worked within the corporate sector and higher education, helping a number of companies get more done with less time. She also coaches fellow working women who want to find more space in their schedule and make empowered decisions with their time.
She has been a featured panelist at Enterprise Nation UK, a speaker at the Creative Women’s Co. Conference in the US, and an entrepreneurship instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. Her company, Ponderlily, has been featured in Forbes, MarieClare UK, Psychologies Magazine, Huffington Post, CNBC, Stylist, and was nominated the best planner of 2019 and 2020 by the UK’s Independent. Brazilian-born, Gulf-raised, and based in Newcastle with her English husband and two twin girls, she works hard to take her own advice and be present to the people who matter most. EP. 24 - My Creativity Realised: How it Happened - By Combatting Imposter Syndrome (AJ Merlin)
Woohoo, we are back this week with our 6th episode of the guest series. In this episode, I have the pleasure of chatting to the lovely AJ Merlin, a Creative Mindset Coach:
AJ is a writer and Creative Mindset Coach who helps artists strengthen their mindset and reframe their inner critic so they can get the success they’re after. She worked in the film, TV, and video games industry for the past ten years. She focuses on three particular pillars: How to reframe your inner voice so it becomes your empowering mentor, how to be efficient with your time and keep your motivation up no matter the obstacles faced, and how to feel empowered as an artist and achieve your dream in alignment with your values.
I absolutely loved hearing about how AJ transitioned into a whole new industry and learnt to combat those feelings of imposter syndrome that so many creatives encounter along their journeys. One of my biggest takeaways was how we can actually end up self-sabotaging as a result of imposter syndrome.

Vicki Nicolson is graphic designer specialising in branding and creating card decks for women business owners. Vicki also recently wrote her first contemporary romance novel over lockdown and launched her romance author brand, VH Nicolson. She is now completely smitten with writing love stories with happily ever afters. Vicki was born and raised along the breathtaking coastline in North East Fife in Scotland. For more than two decades she’s worked throughout the UK and abroad within the creative marketing and design industry, as a branding strategist and stylist, editor of a magazine and sub-editor of a newspaper. Married to her soul mate, they have one son. She has a weakness for buying too many quirky sparkly jumpers, eating Belgium buns, and walking the endless beaches that surround her beautiful Scottish hometown she’s now moved back to where she runs both her graphic design business and author brand.
I absolutely loved hearing about how Vicki made her transition to becoming an author, whilst at the same time using her graphic design and marketing skills to her advantage as she navigated through this process! Her story inspired me so much to think bigger about my creative passions.

This week, I wanted to write about a topic that inspired me from the "Magic is You" group coaching calls with Michelle and Aimee of the Secret OWL Society. It's basically about how we save, save and save certain items for "special occasions" - but what is this really doing? It is actually uprooting beliefs we hold about ourselves, that we are not worthy of having nice things all the time, only some of the time. Sometimes, a small fraction of the time!

This week, I wanted to address the well-known phrase "shiny object syndrome" and why I am trying to steer away from using it. I have recently realised that it is actually quite unhelpful to use from a creative business perspective, as I feel like it has a negative connotation.
I want to reassure creatives out there that pivoting, or changing creative direction is not a bad thing!! In fact, I believe it's the opposite.

EP. 13 - Experiencing Change? Remember to be Patient with Yourself.
Hey there creative goddesses!
This week's episode is a quick little snippet of my thoughts so far travelling after my first week into the big trip.
On of my major realisations this week, is that I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to have the "perfect" trip, and this is just not a realistic perspective to have. Maybe during this Instagram age, extra pressure is added for us to have perfect lives??
We need to allow ourselves to acknowledge and experience all the emotions that we feel during changes, and in my case during my 5-month long trip. Patience is required to allow our bodies to adjust to the new circumstances, routines and surroundings.
However - this same advice can be applied to any major life changes, such as starting a family, getting married, starting a new job etc.
Remember - just because it's an amazing experience that will bring lots of happiness, it doesn't mean that it will always be smooth sailing! And that's totally OK.

I didn't think I was "allowed" to call myself an introvert because I am quite chatty and not too afraid of talking on video.
Turns out there are many variations of introversion... and extroversion too!
Energy SAP or Energy SURGE?
Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert depends on how you get your energy. Maybe you thrive in big groups? Or does that kind of situation drain you?

Episode 1: We tend to "mull over" ideas for weeks, months, even YEARS before we take any action. This could be for many reasons, maybe we don't think we're good enough, or we are scared... but ultimately I've found the main culprit to be the dreaded PERFECTIONISM.
This happened to me when starting this channel/podcast. And then last week I listened to Michelle Rohr-Pelayo's YouTube episode on how easy it is to actually hit "record" and just upload your message. Woah. I realised I had fallen into the classic trap of thinking I have to be doing all. the. things.
And this is simply not true! You can start whenever you want, with whatever resources you have. The world wants to hear your message / see your creations 💛 I hope this inspires you to get started on your creative endeavors, because this could be the start of something incredible for you.
